    Its called buck fever. :D

If you find yourself in a corner, shaking, sucking your thumb, rocking back and forward while stroking your rifle and calling it "my precious", seek immediate help. :D

Apologies also. Was all in the spirit of healthy debate, but sometimes I can cross a line.
    No ill will intended.

Agree that it's generally frustrating times. Hopefully times are changing.

Strange that other countries in the EU, who also have scumbags aplenty of various hues and persuasions, do not license air arms under 40 ft /lbs.In fact, they look askance at you when you tell them that they are licensed like firearms over here. Even anal gun paranoid UK doesn't license them...Yet.

It proably explains why things like air guns ,stun guns Xbows and pepper spray and the odd switchblade and blank firier show up confiscated here off our foreign guests,is simply the assumption that like mainland Europe, these arent considerd firearms or a big thing to posses at home,nd that Irelands law isnt much different than anywhere else in the EU?

You can diddy mao into any gunshop in Germany and once you prove you are 18 ,stroll out with as many as you have money for,and as many tins of pellets too,and be on your way.

Yeah,I can see Gert Scummer wanting an airgun here when for a few Euros more he can aquire a Polish PDW of Warsaw pact vintage or a converted blank firing pistol from Turkey that fires real 9mm.
Thankfully our gun laws being the strictest in the EU prevent that from ever happening by regulating and lscensing a bunch of glorified toys! [Sarcasm mode off]

Under 40 ft /lbs is not high powered though, so that matches what I suggested; make muzzle energy the requirement for licensing.
The FX range appears to go up to 150 ft /lbs. But I'm sure the higher is possible.

I'm probably generalising a bit. But by scummer I wasn't referring to criminals. Proper criminals will get their hands on whatever they can.
I was talking about little toerags on the estate trying to one up each other with scramblers, and the like.

Not sure what point you are making here.
You think they are armed with SMGs already or are you ok with unrestricted airguns for the delinquents?
Or where you agreeing, sorry wasn't clear.

How about just belting the parents of said up and coming scummers with hefty fines in court if their innocent little darlings are caught with quad bikes, airguns, scramblers and all the rest acting the bollix in public?

Those things aren't cheap, and if they can buy those for their offspring, they will have no bother paying large fines either to compensate.Might seriously eat into the "mickey money" and the dodgy deals some have going to afford the holidays in Ibizia ,as well as the payments on the new VW Jetta [with as much chrome as possible on it:rolleyes:]

You get 3 strikes as a parent for your kids anti social pbehaviour.[1] Serious fine and court apperance [2] Bigger fine, noted recordable offenceFamily under counselling and ward of court [3] Children removed into state custody, jailtime and criminal record for one or both parents.

Thats why kids in the EU dont do stupid sht with air rifles, and we dont have hooligans tearing up public parks and greens with scramblers.
OTOH it does behove the local authorithy to provide facilities for these youngsters to go and tear about a bit of land or whatever.Plus virtually every village has an air rifle range of some type .

Never going to happen here Grizz, we have the Claire Daly's and rich boy Barretts etc, crying for them. They will tell you those little toerags are the real victims of society and its people with money who are the criminals. I know it first hand, a little ballofwax causing endless trouble, and my sister complained to one of these lefties about the carry-on, "Oh he comes from a broken home, his mother is a drug user, his father is in jail, his "stepfather" was beating him yadda yadda yadda".

He was in the custody of the state, was running away and heading back home. Despite all the hot air and bluster about how great Ireland is, that we are all rich and drive Audi's, how progressive we are, there is a huge lot of trouble going on out there.

Found this little guy right outside my back step last night. The picture is crap, but it was about two and a half inches or so in length, including the tail.

Over the years i've found Hedgehogs, Frogs, and a we have a great selection of song and other birds (i feed them a lot especially over Winter).

From checking it seems its a native irish Smooth Newt. I know feck all about them other than what i read but i wonder if its the same as Frogs. I was told when i was in school that frogs are a sign of a clean/good local environment as they are the first to be affected by changes in the habitat, so i wonder if Newts are the same.

If you have frogs, newts or silver lizards in your area. You do have a pretty clean environment and water.:):)

I’m 36 so not exactly to old in terms of being around pre modern farming methods etc. However I couldn’t tell you when I last seen a frog. Plus, feck all wasps about and this was supposed to be a “bad” year for them meaning loads about.

I know not everyone buys into the climate change narrative however the rate we are using up the planet is getting exponentially worse.

When i was a kid, the fields would be full of wild mushrooms, cannot remember seening mushrooms in a field in the past few decades. There was always frogs around, the pond in the park would be full of spawn and tadpoles, again i cannot remember the last time i seen a frog in the wild, but its a long time ago.

The problem was the government were pushing the farmers to be more modern, be more intensive and produce more. Then there was butter mountains, milk lakes and all that rubbish, now they want the farmers to be green and all that.

One farm i had permission to shoot over was sold, there were loads of little fields when i shot over it, i went back a few years later and it was two fields, all the hedgerows pulled up and were gone. very little wildlife to be seen.

Have them too, in surrounding fields and along the back fence of my property. Seem to be more each year. After saying that its only in recent years they're appearing.

Chemical Fert is the reason for that - that and herbicides largely behind the loss of Wild flower meadows, pollinators, farmland bird species etc.:( Old timers will tell u that the change from Hay and Oats as stock feed to intensive silage production decimated farmland habitats and in addition led to sharp deterioration in water quality of Rivers/Lakes across the country from the 1970's onwards
