One for the Melon party. An interesting map of electricity. Looks like the french are the ones putting out the least carbon for a large country. Better start building nuclear plants here

Meantime in Texas in Minus, 30 degrees the windmills have frozen up,and in Germany with the snow 75% of the solar power is gone due to the snowfalls and cloudy weather.
Looks like we are finally getting sense and after dumping 1.1 Trillion Euros down the green energy hole,we are not building any more giant bird mincers
So why are we being still sold this myth here that wind and solar are the way to go in Ireland?
We are being sold a pup yet again.

Nuclear is the only way to go for sustainable energy, but will never get that past NIMBY idiots here.

    What are their objections?

Just the "eye sore" aspect or "we're all gonna die"?

I'd put myself in the anti-nuke NIMBY camp on this...
But not because of nuke power per se, which by and large have a very safe track record...
Rather because of the Irish attitude to sub-par building practises brown paper envelopes, "Ah sure it will do!" attitudes, cronyism and absolutely humongous project cost overruns on every single public-private partnership projects in the last 30 years here.
Not to mind employing an entire real-life cast of the Springfield nuclear power plant from The Simpsons.

Nuke power is safe, because of exacting standards in safety and material like in the aircraft industry and you can't cut corners with it either. Imagine now some brown paper envelopes are passed and a few loads of Pyrite loaded cement is put into something vital, like the containment vessel of the reactor core?

As Elon Musk said "there 100,000 things to go wrong in launching a rocket. You only get one chance to do them all right. So that's why everyone on our team in launch control can call out and stop the countdown."
We don't have that attitude here, and if we do it is buried under commissions, and subcommittees and it comes to light years if not decades later.

I, and no doubt plenty of others don't really fancy living as a stalker in the ruins of the Irish version of the greater Pripyat exclusion zone, Ukraine , with an extra hand growing out of my kid's head, because some bollix in a suit was skimming off the money of Irelands first, and last nuke power plant project and put gun barrel water piping in, where HP SS pipes should have been, or the like in fukactin and caused a meltdown that makes this island uninhabitable for three thousand years.

Nuclear fusion tech will take care of all that - in the meantime we can simply do a deal with the French and import their nuke power for our population which is smaller than Paris. It would be certainly cheaper than continuing to p*ss away vast amounts of money on the likes of useless, destructive wind farms

Talented, ah, that's a bit of a stretch. A lot of her fights were at a catchweight where she was the bigger unit. The talent pool in women's MMA being pretty small at the time her opponents were taking fights with her that would be deemed laughable in the men's division. Now one can only fight what's put in front of you however a talented MMA fighter she's not.

    Gorgeous, yep no argument there.

    Definitely a smaller talent pool.
But I don't think it's accurate to say she was the bigger side of the catchweight. If anything she was usually the smaller one.
She started a BW. Then fought Rosi (sho she was bigger then).
But after that she mostly fought FWs at to 141, 144 and then Cyborg at FW.
The fighter moving up is usually conceding the advantage.

The company are entitled to control their public image. That's their right under freedom of expression.
Funny how people only support it when it suits them.

If I was posting stuff online that made my company look bad, I’d expect to be pulled up on it. I’ve a right to post what I want. But they the right to show me the door.
Show me her anti Semitic posts.
Constantly posted on her IG story. Can’t link to it, you’d need to follow her on IG.
    Same as Pascal so.
Can you show me where he's been posting that stuff for months? Otherwise its not the same.
As I said, she wasn’t fired for a once off.
Comparing Nazi Germany to todays American political system is not a stretch given the actions of the democratic supported terrorist groups like antifa and blm.
We aren't sending people to the gas chamber for being republicans or Trump supporters.
Trump supporters treated unfairly is not even the worse treated of people in the US in the last 80 years. Anyone who thinks it is has a short memory.
That doesn’t mean they are treated fairly or well. But claiming that are treat as bad as anyone has ever been treated is simply nonsense, and undermines the position imo.

Nick Cannon, as i said previously, was fired for his racist and anti-semitic rants on his podcast against white people and Jews. Roll on a couple of months and he is back working after claiming to better understand things.
I had to google who he was. That’s essentaily the same stuff Gina was posting. “Jewish control of finance” for example.
I’m not surprised he was fired for that. Do think they were wrong to fire him? I don’t. It’s not the same company as Gina btw.
If Gina came out and apologises, as he did, and took some responsibility. I’d don’t think it would be unreasonable to re-hire her. Some would disagree. I’d be ok with hit.
James Gunn, Guardian of the Galaxy director, was fired for old tweets promoting sexual violence towards children among a host of other vile rhetoric. Then he is rehired because he brings in Billions.
From memory, he was fired after some alt-right guy dug up rape/pedo jokes he made 10 years previously.
That’s a good example to highlight that both sides do it.
I don't support cancel culture in any form. Digging up old comments, posts or tweets is a slippery slope as i'm sure most people have something they wish they didn't say, said it in anger, or better still the ignorance of youth. It shouldn't be a reason to cancel those people today.
I’m also not ok with digging up stuff people said years ago. Especially when people were young and dumb. Gunn should be fired in 2018 for something he said in 2008.
Now, if he made those comment today, it’s a bit different imo.
Just look at Parler. It was opposition to the main platforms and because they would not censor their content like Twitter demanded they worked to have it destroyed. The same Twitter that allows the terrorist nation of Iran to post, allows child porn, but blocks the President permanently.
Twitter had nothing to do with Parler being removed. It wasn’t hosted by Twitter.
Apple/Amazon require content is moderated. Just like boards.ie do for obvious reasons, (there’s quite an irony here tbh).
Parler refused to do that. So they breached their contract and were turned off. They’ve since been reinstated, so I’m guessing they’ve reached an agreement.

ISIS posts to Twitter are heavily moderated and watched. Twitter actively blocks thousands of Chinese CCP Bots and agent accounts. Funny that people complaining about Trump being censored never had a issue when it was the CCP.

Twitter allows child porn? I highly doubt that. But it’s not exactly something I’d expect to find accidently.

But we know how far the Nazi Germans took in by 1945. Horrific stuff.
Saying that people are treated like that in the US today is extreme hyperbole.
To the extent that it downplays the horrors of 1940-45. If you have family that seen it first hand, then surely you know that there's a scale to it.

Absolutely...At this point in time...Neither did the Nazis in 1934, but the similarities of dehumanising your opponents, removing their avenues of speech, banning them of means of defending themselves, depriving them of livelihoods and property and openly stating your plans in something like Mein Kampf or Twitter calling for locking up Republicans in deprogramming centres is rather alarming. As for living thru it...My grandfathers boss and eventual business partner was Jewish, and yes it happened in increments. From being yelled and spat on in the streets to being forced to sell his business to my grandfather for pfennigs on the Reich mark by 1939 and fleeing to Holland, only took about 4 years. So im sure we are progressive enough to shorten that to probably 2 years these days?
Germany became under Hitler a giant Sanford prison, Milgram and Asch conformity experiment...It seems the US wants to recreate this in 2021.

Thats not how it started in Germany. It started with eliminating opposition parties, attacks on opposition figures, the brown shorts, etc. As you said to Grizzly it started slowly with small actions and built over time.
I had to google who he was. That’s essentaily the same stuff Gina was posting. “Jewish control of finance” for example.

Twitter had nothing to do with Parler being removed. It wasn’t hosted by Twitter.
If you are going to pick at semantics then i'll be sure to be more exact however if you think Jack Dorsey had no input into the fate of Parler then you're naive.
    Apple/Amazon require content is moderated.
They demanded the same level of moderation using their community standards which means Parler would not be a challenger to other social media only another branch of the same.
Just like boards.ie do for obvious reasons, (there’s quite an irony here tbh).
Do explain how an Irish company with an Irish forum having to abide by Irish laws, and subject to prosecution for the content on their platform is the same as a worldwide social media with no such constraints other than those they wish to impose.
Parler refused to do that. So they breached their contract and were turned off. They’ve since been reinstated, so I’m guessing they’ve reached an agreement.
    Nope.

Not re-instated by Apple/Google, but went with a completely different company and set of servers so now they're up and running and away from the oversight of Google/Apple/Amazon/Twitter/Instagram, etc.
ISIS posts to Twitter are heavily moderated and watched.
The fact they have an account is an affront and in my opinion a crime.
Twitter actively blocks thousands of Chinese CCP Bots and agent accounts.
Didn't ask about that, but good to know. I asked about allowing child porn, Terrorists, and other highly inappropriate content.
Funny that people complaining about Trump being censored never had a issue when it was the CCP.
So you're comparing Trump to the Dictatorial government of China, with one of the worst human rights track record in the world? Seems Pedro Pascal has a kindred spirit in you.
Twitter allows child porn? I highly doubt that. But it’s not exactly something I’d expect to find accidently.
Like the Pascal thing you seem very confident without ever doing any research. You claimed Pascal never made such tweets and a 1 second search i found he did. You say Twitter would not allow child porn yet its reported in the papers only three weeks ago.

Now you might understand when i don't believe your unverified claims about Carano and the content of her posts. You seem to be parroting what you're hearing without checking yourself.

Was reading some, because its a million words long, of the expose on biden.
    • He starts his day at 9am.
    • He is in the residence by 7pm
    • He doesn't have an open door policy unlike Obama or Trump.
    • Most meetings are virtual (understandable i suppose with covid)
    • When in the residence doesn't read security briefs or other relevant presidential briefs/papers instead preferring to read "fan mail" but is in bed by 19:30.

Forget for a minute your personal take on the man. A few years back, say no less than 5, he was sharp as a tack. He was quick on his feet, could talk his way out of trouble as quick as he got himself into it. However now he is basically a 9-5 President which given his predecessors is not something the President of the United States gets to be.

I genuinely wonder if he suffers from Sundowning. Its a condition with people with Alzheimer's and/or dementia where they get progressively worse as the day goes on. Its not full blown dementia, but usually develops into such in time.

I read/heard about a case of some years back with a top hedge fund guy. He would be grand in the morning but couldn't remember his family's name by the evening and it got worse as the years went on. It wasn't until trades were not being done that his staff noticed and he had to retire that the truth came out.

Until the four years are up.

She is really not liked. She lost in the primaries with less than 1% of the vote and even lost in her home state. The only reason she is there is because Biden said if he won he would nominate a woman of colour and given his choices (harris or abrams) he really only had one choice. (won't even touch on the subject of picking someone based on skin colour rather than ability).

    Back home.

Seen an article in the paper about An Gardaí questioning Leo and Simon Harris among others about his [Leo's] leaking of confidential papers to a friend. Other than the smug smile he has when defending himself against any claim (which pisses me right off) i wonder why another news paper ran with a similar headline, a few days back, but had under the headline "Garda to investigate, but claim its not a criminal matter".

How can they determine that before an investigation, and If its not criminal, why investigate? What can be done to him as he already survived a motion of no confidence and will continue to so long as Martin is holding the Taoiseach reigns (be a different story in 20 or so months)

How in the name of God almighty did you come to that conclusion?

Until the four years are up.

She is really not liked. She lost in the primaries with less than 1% of the vote and even lost in her home state. The only reason she is there is because Biden said if he won he would nominate a woman of colour and given his choices (harris or abrams) he really only had one choice. (won't even touch on the subject of picking someone based on skin colour rather than ability).

And yet she is VP. But who are we to talk ? Varadkar barely scraped in on the fifth recount and yet he will be running the show next year. Is it any wonder people get pissed off with it all and no longer bother ?
