Tried to switch from bill pay to SIM only on their chat, got the old "Your contact is not up til blah blah, you'll need to pay an early termination fee blah blah".

    Go on outta dat.

Then when I mentioned that I CAN cancel because they are changing the conditions of the contract that he admitted it, and gave me a number to call, as they have a dedicated team for this.

Three don't allow tethering. Not sure whether they bother charging people for it but it's against their t&cs.

Thinking of moving to the ID network, are they a disaster or ok?

What number did they give you?

A general point. Prepay customers generally end up spending more than their basic twenty or thirty euro monthly top up in order to purchase extras or add-on's which are included as standard on Billpay, thereby nullifying the apparent savings gained by switching.

I've just been informed by the Three live chat that the UK is not in the EU. News to me! This is after me asking her is the UK and Canary islands included in the 2gb EU data, to which I was told that EU countries are included in that deal. Who'd have known!

I don't believe her in regards to the UK roaming, I'm just shocked how bad the information is! I've seen some bad live chats but the Three one really takes the biscuit.

Not true in my experience at all I have been on the 3 top up by 20 euro every 30 day contract and you get unlimited data and texts. Absolutely tonnes of credit built up can't fault it tbh.

They're a virtual provider, running on guess who's network....?

    You get 3 guesses.

Delighted to read this tonight. Our house is in a 3 complete "black spot". Would never switch back. Can't wait to change provider and get rid of the "No Signal" at the top left of my screen.

Canaries are a strange one as they are an autonomous region of Spain. I think they are covered under EU roaming, though, I know on Eir they definitely are.

Don't forget because of the weird system that three have in place you can't really build up more than about €120 of credit and even then if you don't use up all the original top up you start loosing all your credit.

Its better to spend it in the google app store.

Exact same happened me, he pissed about for 25 mins, told me I can cancel without penalty, then said I will be charged 870 euro to cancel.. what? You just said it would be penalty free ha. Then gave me a number and said he can't cancel.... wasters

Anyone moving to prepay, they've changed the top up period from 30 days to 28, in order to cause confusion and get more accidental data charges. They'll text to tell you you've spent about 10 euros, after you've spent it. It's very thoughtful.

I've been on pre-pay with three for a few years now. God, i moved from meteor and that really annoyed me. They don't text you when your days are up, you have to remind yourself. Meteor at least sent a text saying when your out of the plan and it will start taking credit, instantly!

I spent 20 euro of my credit, unknowingly, and about 2 hours later I get a text saying i've spent 20 euro or so. Very annoying!

I want to change, but unfortunately there are no better offers around ;/

Myself and the wife both signed 2 year contracts with 3 in October. Delighted this opportunity popped up. Will ring them in the morning and let ye know how I get on.

Whoever I spoke to was in Limerick and was very upfront, honest and didn't attempt to twist my arm or obstruct me.

I started the call with I heard you're changing my bill pay pricing and T&Cs. So, could you just run me through what's changing?

OK. Well that doesn't really suit me. I'd like to cancel.

He just moved me over to prepay with 30 days notice. So, I will have one final bill for a month and that's it. Just need to pick up a new SIM.

I'd suspect they may get pushier with sales tactics as the volumes of calls on this increase and they start trying to do 'win back'

The people who answer the phones don't set the policy, so it would be more a case of if some marketing manager decides that they need to push harder, the attitude would change. Otherwise, they're just help desk people being helpful.

Yes, you can keep your number.
If you move to prepay, you can park it there and decide what you want to do next.

If you give notice, then let the number die after 30 days you might have more issues though. So, make sure you actually pick up the sim within 30 days.

So have Virgin, ID or Tesco changed there contracts yet?

Would it be risky picking up a contract phone off them in the hope of them changing there contracts so I can opt out and get a free phone?

    Yes, very risky!

What are the changes for a prepay customer does anyone know someone told me earlier today the top up €20 all you can eat data (15gb) is gone soon. Is that true?

True, I suppose if I was looking at a new phone I would consider it. I'd expect them to move soon on it.

The EU is really a holy show. They can't get anything right. Firstly we are told, we have to be billed for water, yet we are charged VRT on new cars in spite of free trade, now mobile phone operators are making a show of the EU.

Firstly they up'd the data limit (which they don't actually police) to 60GB and if they remove AYCED they have to replace it with something good or they won't have any customers left. Without AYCED who would use three?

There have been stories of AYCED going for the last couple of years and so far nothings changed yet. Three have increased the price by reducing the number of days the promotion runs for from 30 to 28 so I guess thats all they will do for a while.

Can't do it now on chat on website, I'll call in the morning.
I'll be saving 25 euro a month, and my contract expires in November this year.
    Cheers OP.

We go from a 30 day cycle to 28 day cycle. So basically another cycle in the year. So 12 at the moment, increased to 13 or around 1.50€ extra PM.

Or what you could do is just not top up for a month and you'll be the same.

AYCE data isn't going from what I know, it's not 15GB it's 60GB, but only 2GB is part of this new buzz word called your 'core' package.

Considering they heavily advertise it, one would assume that the AYCE data would be the core and anything else just an auxiliary part of the package.

Might have alot of implications at home with this 'core' stuff, pretty scandalous to be honest.

The EU have ****ed this one up, Three is having it customers foot the bill, basically giving everyone 2GB roaming in the EU, even if you don't use it, your paying for it. Yet 2GB is a pile of ****e of an allowance to have for data. Your OS might use half that in one week, just doing system tasks. EU need to put these bucks into line, and tell them to stop this codlogy or just set a minimum 'core' GB at say 10/15GB.

    Totally off topic but:
Both the bits highlighted in red were entirely down to the Irish Government's choices. The state opted out of the EU derogation on water quite deliberately and then attempted to blame the EU for this and the Irish Government fought tooth and nail to retain VRT, despite protestations from the EU.

The EU has to do something to move on roaming charges, they're way too high and this is a pretty progressive move. The fact 3's attempting to tweak things won't make much difference as the rates progressively drop over the next few years as per the regulations.

The idea is to force market change and hopefully cause new products and services to spin out to shake the whole thing up.

What's going to really shake the market to the core is MVNOs (Mobile Virtual Network Operators) doing their own roaming deals on a much more active basis than today.

As for taking out a contract phone and hoping there'll be change to rates that would get you out of contract. This is not likely as for whatever business reason, 3 has decided to do this. It does not mean that other networks will follow suit and they may also just allow existing contracts to fizzle out while introducing new T&Cs on new contracts only.

I would suspect though that if operators are just attempting to use loopholes, the EU will revisit the legislation and close them. They've done this before.

Still the only crowd with the best data All the rest are crap. vodafone 10gb like :P:P

My €20 Pay as you Go, disappears a couple of days after the 30 days. Even if I'm not using it. No matter what I did, it just disappears. Never got to the bottom of that. If you are using a lot of data its probably still the best deal.

Don't have that problem on other Payg sims. Not as bad anyway. Thankfully my main sim is still an O2 sim, and I mainly use Wifi.
