It's good to see Trump and his supporters are so staunchly opposed to and appalled by political witch hunts anyway

    https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/01/10/us/politics/donald-trump-russia-intelligence.html

Too much time has been given to the amusing but largely unimportant sex scandal. I don't really care what he is into.

However the document also includes suggestions (unproven I have to stress) that Trump knew about the email hacks. That is the serious allegation in all of this as it is an accusation of treason.

@ Hank: I don't see Trump suing Buzzfeed. Not that I would miss it if was taken out really but he has neglected to sue places he has said he would nevermind somewhere where he hasn't even said he would sue.

Plus Buzzfeed may get around it by saying they are explicitly saying that these things may not be true. Not that I agree with them publishing it but them being sued seems unlikely.

Wikileaks is wrong then? It is official intel? It can't be both fake and real.
It could be both if it's a Schrödinger's story.

It's both real and fake until we discover the political persuasion of the cat in the box.

I haven't read the thread but could he be impeached for this? Could Mike Pence become president because of this? He'll be a lot worse than Trump.

EDIT: What happens if he's "impeached" before becoming president. Does Pence still take over?

Buzzfeed have described the information as unverified and possibly unverifiable. So it's unlikely. There might be an internal investigation but it's very hard to verify some of the claims. If you read the actual dossier the first few pages are comedy gold. Stuff about him getting onto the bed Obama slept in, getting a load of hookers and "golden showers". Apparently the russians have information on this.
There's also the fact that apparently the russians fed him info about the DNC.

All of that would be pretty hard to verify unless the Russians actually send the proof over. And if it never happened then there's no way to prove most of it didn't happen unless the russians have cameras in the hotel room etc.

So it's unlikely to amount to anything more than jokes and rumours. Think of it like Cameron with the pig head.

Regardless of the veracity of the story, and as I said earlier it is not a story worth anything IMO at this time, but it does feed into the narrative that Trump is in some way compromised on Russia.

Whilst outright collusion will never be proven, it is also impossible to disprove. The seed of doubt has been sown, and in part by Trump himself with his extolling Russia to hack HC e-mails to find the 30k missing and his continued fawning over Putin/

I forsea Trump having to take a very hard stance on Russia just to be seen to do something. The next time Russia steps out of line Trump will be accused of betraying US due to his collusion with Russia if he doesn't do something. So GOP and DNP, the media etc will force him to act, even if that might no be the best course.

    And that is never good.

While not commenting on whether or not it's true, I won't be relying on Buzzfeed for my news.

Am I the only one looking forward to the next Washington correspondents dinner?

Here's the one where Seth Meyers takes a dig at Trump. The next one should be hilarious. Trump sitting there for 20 minutes whilst someone takes the piss out of him.

I don't think the accusations, unfortunately probably untrue and almost definitely unprovable, are that consenting adults agreed to do something Wierd but that Russia, who 90% of Americans considered an enemy until Donald told them not to, used it as leverage.

This reminds me of when the Access Hollywood tape came out and people were talking about his use of the word "pussy" as opposed to his admission of sexual assault.

Also what are honest brokers Wikileaks doing getting involved? I thought they were just medium through which confidential documents were released not the authority on documents they haven't seen.
They're the ones coming out of the worst if you ask me.

All they did was post a redacted copy of the document and they even said it's not verifiable. They posted it after McCain got it and sent it on. It's news and they were responsible enough to put a disclaimer over it.

Got to laugh at these liberal cowards making up false allegations against the donald. Trying to ruin the guy before he steps into the white house. Pure bull**** and i hope the donald clears his name amd gets vengeance on these liberal liars. Liberals still fuming from his victory is funny to see

I would like to remind people that there is also the accusation that Trump knew Russia was behind the hack and was fed information from them. That is a big chunk of leverage right there. That is also incredibly serious and would be grounds for treason.

As others have said no matter what this is destructive for Trump. Him asking Russia to hack the dnc (in jest but still) makes him look worse. As does him attempting to deflect from the dnc hack after he stopped denying Russia was involved. He ducked, dived and dodged and it looked incredibly dodgy to just accept an attack in the form of the hack just like that. It looks bad and that could affect working with Congress.

I'm not sure it matters that much.

The die hard republican will stand by a republican in power to the bitter end. Same goes on the other side.
The uniquely Trump voter is more likely to believe that any evidence against him, and there is none in this case so far, is a conspiracy. How many times have you read people saying that he never mocked a reporter with disabilities despite there being video of it?

Another example of his supporters disagreeing with reality:
    He never admitted sexual assault.

That's the thing about "news" there is always the risk that it is pure propaganda and that real news gets buried amongst it. This means that many real stories get "hidden in plain sight".

While the world is looking at "goldengate" or whatever this is being called, something else that is really significant could also have been just released to the news agencies and largely ignored.

I hope the donald takes them to the cleaners with strong litagation and leaves these liars and their families in financial difficulty so a lesson is learned. Liberal scumbags

Not really. Some comedian will start mocking one of the guests. Fast forward to 2024 and we have president West.

Up until now I wold agree. Russia seems to be a step too far for the likes of McCain. If Republicans keep pushing to punish Russia and fighting against any repeal of existing punishments then Trump is going to find it hard going.

I think the thought of any Trump idea potentially being an order from Putin could sit in the mind of McCain and those who are similar.

Im not a trump supporter. I wanted him to win only by proxy. I despised Clinton more.

And yes, I do not believe that he admitted to sexual assault. Doesn't make me disagree with reality.

So the Donald likes paying prostitutes to piss on each other, loves the golden showers apparently. It's all over Twitter.
    The Russians have it recorded.

When did golden showers become illegal?

Being fed info by the Russians is illegal. It creates a conflict.

Also the thing about the golden showers isn't that he did it (although that would be hilarious) it's that the russians apparently have this and can hold it over him to leverage him.

If either/both of those are true then he's effectively a russian intelligence asset.

When did golden showers become acceptable behaviour from a man in his 60s?
