I assume that the US is not that crazy to invite a war with China. One thing for sure is China won't go to war to save North Korea. Taiwan is another matter though.

1941-1945 was the last time America fought an enemy that was its match. Since then, America has fought enemies who were vastly inferior to it. A war with China, a vast army and a nuclear power, would be in no one's interests and unless the US becomes a total dictatorship lead by a large group of madmen, I cannot see it happening. If the president ordered it, the orders would be disobeyed by the other parties involved. I feel relations between the US and China could enter a cold war mode though.

War with China would destroy large parts of the world and lead to a Mad Max style economic breakdown elsewhere. Scarcities, war and revolution would happen everywhere.

You’d be wrong to believe that. Have you forgotten the Korean War? China unprovoked, entered the war on the side of North Korea and attacked UN forces in the region. This UN force was commanded by US generals and, the majority of the men fighting the Chinese were American. China has already fought a war with the United States! Security Concerns have not changed since and as far I know the 1961 Sino- North Korean mutual aid friendship treaty is still unchanged?

Obama pivot to Asia was to stop China from expanding beyond its shore and doing what they would like in the Region. There has been a call for a long time to stop China. We are now in uncharted territory Trump is the new leader of the United States.

Trump talks negatively about China South Seas projects (manmade islands) and hes advisors have said they will stop that island building. Trump said the one china policy for Taiwan should be used as a bargaining chip to achieve better trade deals with China. If Trump and hes advisors try to force China to comply and obey and use Taiwan to scare China. We are beyond just scare tactics, we are moving towards a war footing with China

Democratic and Republican politicians agree China Island building in the South China Seas is wrong and needs to stop. China will not stop. So the unthinkable is possible. Orders will not be disobeyed a false belief. Trump firing nuclear weapons unprovoked is the only reason that would occur, but Chinese have already made moves that threaten US interests in the region,. Watch you see the American people and media will defend Trump war with China.

Its my believe Trump and hes team are likely to drag the United States towards War with China nothing they have said or done leads me to believe otherwise.

Is America now controlled by the political wing of a racist, fanatic Christian terrorist group. The mirror image of ISIS/Al Qaeda?

    No.

How long did it take you to meet them all and ask them?

The assumption that people who disagree with Trump just MUST support Obama and love Hilary is getting really old. Maybe you can only think of the world in those terms, some people have a bit more cop on.

I like Obama quite a bit but.... that's in comparison to his predecessor and the guy who followed him :)

    No.

It's not that much of a stretch.

    http://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/steve-bannon-will-lead-trumps-white-house
“I’m a Leninist,” Steve Bannon told a writer for The Daily Beast, in late 2013. “Lenin wanted to destroy the state, and that’s my goal, too. I want to bring everything crashing down, and destroy all of today’s establishment.”

There are guys in powerful positions now who want to smash everything up and remould it in a very nationalist/christian way.

Remember that the current VP supports electroshock to convert gay people. This is a very strange, very ideologically driven group of people.

It is. I mean for anyone who has the slightest clue about ISIS and what life under their rule has been like.

If you think that's comparable in any way to an American citizen and what they're going through (say living in New York) you delusional.

    Was he wrong?
Because looking at the text of the order and the legislation, he doesn't seem to be, and there seem to be a number of folks who are, given the posts I've seen about CJCS and DNI no longer attending NSC meetings.

He may be right, he may be wrong. He does claim that issues outside of direct national security interests are “generally rare”. However, there is an article on time.com today quoting an administration official as saying

    http://time.com/4652842/donald-trump-national-security-stephen-bannon/
There are going to be a lot of issues where you don't need the DNI or CJCS…

The keywords there being “there are going to be a lot of issues”. With the Chair determining the agenda of the meeting there is potential for the DNI and CJCS to be locked out.

I doubt there will be “aliens” and “hitler youth” out to take over FEMA as your friend puts it. But we do have enough information on Steve Bannon to make an educated guess as to where he’s coming from and where he’s going. When Bannon stumbles through the door at 9:15am tired and emotional, demanding tighter immigration controls, or deportations, or any issue that has been redefined as economic, cultural or social instead of National Security. Will there be a countering viewpoint, someone who can look at the situation with critical thinking rather than the current emotional decisions being made. Someone who will allow trump to make a well informed decision on numerous policies?

So far you’d have to say the signs aren’t looking too promising.

Yes, when it's made deliberately harder for certain sections of the population to get ID, such as by closing down DMV offices in predominantly black or Democratic-voting areas. I could get into the long-term gerrymandering of districts by Republicans as well, but I suspect the DMV offices are going to be about enough for you to get your head around in one go.

I strongly suspect it's because he doesn't understand the process very clearly and doesn't want to put in the work of having to understand it. In the short term, the US gets poorly thought out policies that have had no real political debate or opposition to iron out problematic points. In the long term, at least most of these policies can be fairly easily overturned by the next guy, assuming Trump doesn't manage to get Congress to agree to protection for a following term for the previous term's administrator or something devious along those lines.

Well, there was a mosque burned down last night in Texas. In all likelyhood, that was probably not Muslims. I'm sure you're going to bring up that case of vandalism ad nauseum forever, but that was statistically unusual.

Except it isn't. He really did get elected with that number because there were a lot of lies told about it. He didn't really need to tell that many, he said a random ridiculously high number and his followers lapped it up.

An awful lot of us, especially those who have had to work minimum wage jobs as an adult because of this whole recession business that hit most of us (presumably didn't hit you, else you'd know how hard things have been for the majority of people trying to get into the workforce) study and do apprenticeships because we want other things than just minimum wage. Everyone should be able to live on the proceeds of a full-time job. If you want more and you have the opportunity for more (and not everyone gets that opportunity), that's when studying and further education gets in. It's not absoutely money-based. But for those who -are- stuck in a McDonalds job, they should be able to live on it.

The no lobbying one is remarkably progressive, although one may as well take into account that it conveniently doesn't affect him since the lobbyists are all in Washington doing the jobs they used to lobby at!

    And thank god for Canada.

It's very strange to one of your mindset, but yes, certain people, when they see something going on that is hurting people, that is -extremely- dubiously legal and is deeply unpopular will protest to give voices to the people who don't currently have any.

It's called "social responsibility", and there seems to be a very good vaccination against it on the far right-wing. I think the vaccination is called "BUT OBUMMER"

"Muslim countries do it so I should be grand when mine does it, or where a country that claims to be the "leader of the free world" (lol) does it. I think we should bring back capital punishment in Ireland, after all, the US does it!!"

Probably, not to mention they are coming from countries where the government will actually have you (or let you be) shot or assassinated. Trump looks good against Syria. Big surprise. Doesn't look good against anywhere else.

People are tired of experts. Trump doesn't even understand them.

Im surprised there was no outcry when Obama's government called for the same thing . Thats not a dig at Obama, or blaming Obama or any of that. But it seems he kind of wanted and put through the same motion, yet there wasnt an outcry.

    from Feb of last year.

    Release Date: February 18, 2016
    For Immediate Release
    DHS Press Office
    Contact: 202-282-8010

WASHINGTON—The Department of Homeland Security today announced that it is continuing its implementation of the Visa Waiver Program Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act of 2015 with the addition of Libya, Somalia, and Yemen as three countries of concern, limiting Visa Waiver Program travel for certain individuals who have traveled to these countries.

Pursuant to the Act, the Secretary of Homeland Security had sixty days to determine whether additional countries or areas of concern should be subject to the travel or dual nationality restrictions under the Act. After careful consideration, and in consultation with the Director of National Intelligence and the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Homeland Security has determined that Libya, Somalia, and Yemen be included as countries of concern, specifically for individuals who have traveled to these countries since March 1, 2011. At this time, the restriction on Visa Waiver Program travel will not apply to dual nationals of these three countries. DHS continues to consult with the Department of State and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence to develop further criteria to determine whether other countries would be added to this list.

more here, if anyone is interested.

I got a CNN alert on my phone earlier.

The Trump administration is at a preliminary state of discussing the possibility of asking foreign visitors to disclose all websites and social media sites they visit, and disclose all the contacts on their mobile phone.

CNN go onto say that if a person refuses it could lead to the foreign visitor being declined entry to the US.
This is due to the San Bernardino terrorists using social media under a pseudonym to call for Jihad and the account had strict privacy settings, and the Trump administration are looking to see how a policy to overcome this can be implemented.

At the moment, all this is at a very preliminary stage.

Holy *&^/. I mean I get that this preliminary but the fact that they are thinking about this is insane.

Like the flash of a very large explosion?

Shine some of that light into the darker recesses of the Islamic world and you'll see a very rational fear of importing a problem that nobody either wants or needs to import.

All Trump's nonsense over the last few days has done is make Islamic terrorism stronger both inside and outside the US, and made the US more likely to be attacked. ISIS etc would have been fecking delighted after hearing it.

People want Trump supporters to feel bad and are confused when they don't.. While at the same time refusing to admit one bad thing about his predecessor or rival.
A "but Obama" and "but Hillary" in the same post. Bravo!

Just out of interest for all you Trumpbots out there, at what stage and what would Trump have to do for you to turn around and accept he shouldn't be President of the US? So I know when you start with the usual deflections (see above).

Of course this ban doesn't apply to Saudi Arabians at all despite that country being the biggest sponsor of radical Islamism in the world. I suppose banning them would wind up the Saudi royals who are best pals with the American establishment and are in receipt of huge amounts of American armaments which they're using in Yemen today.

Total bullsh*t and theatre from Trump as usual.

None of them care about the 400k+ people Obama deported every year or the six months ban in Iraqi refugees. But the right are supposed to feel disgusted about 100-200 affected in airports yesterday and green card holders having to be screened more before getting in again.

Some will. The ones who've been attacked won't.

I might have missed something but has Trump issued some order not to deport anyone?

ISIS and their ilk are probably never going away, all that can be done is to fight and demoralize them. Have no doubt they'll still exist in 4 years time.
