Well the thread title was about signs that an area was rough yet self-righteous, smuglings such as yourself immediatley went on a rant sneering at the garb of poor people in general and the behaviour of hypothetical criminals. We had Lt Dan not even being subtle in his clamouring to have poorer areas sealed off and their utility services cut off......for fun.

Bit harsh there Hens, the behaviour and general decorum and habits of the majority of the populace of an area is just as good an indicator of its status as the inanimate signs.

My guess however is you are just trying to stir things up, so I will have to treat your numerous responses with that in mind.

Handmade signs in windows relating to water charges.

PJ-clad people hanging around smoking on the street (or sometimes drinking) in the afternoon.

    Flags in the windows.

    OTT Christmas decorations.

Overflowing bins / rubbish on the street.

    Graffiti.

Curtains still closed downstairs in the afternoon.

    Particularly frightening looking dogs.

    Garden gnomes, ridiculous hedge-art.

    Landry on display.

Young kids staying out late ,past 10 pm, later than they should be ,
Their parents maybe drinking or using drugs so they don,t care if their children make noise or annoy people living in the area ,
or hang around aimlessly on a street corner .
Young kids may be out late smoking or drinking in a field ,their parents do not seem to care .
Normal parents expect their children to be in at a certain time every night to do homework or go to sleep at a certain time.

Tricolour flying in the back garden of houses in the area, graffiti and adult women walking around wearing pyjamas during the day.

Yea but that's only in Glasnevin North which, as everybody knows, is really Finglas East.

Jaysus, that's nothing. Raheny is the second largest county in Ireland.

And Raheny just so wants to be Clontarf.

Front doors left open in all weather. Yer wan out on the step at two in the afternoon with the cup of tea, in her PJs and yer man in a vest top, leaning against the door frame slugging from a can of Dutch Gold.

And, you are going to provide the alleged statement in full immediately, to back up your allegation, I assume

You know it's a rough area when arguments/conversations are conducted by individuals as they walk down the road, on opposite sides of it (the road not the argument).

"Young wans" whose best chance at a decent lifestyle is to avoid getting pregnant before a creepy guy down the local shopping centre notices that she's gorgeous underneath the daytime pyjamas, tango spray and dodgy makeup and gets her "career" as a glamour model started...

All going well, she'll be able to pay for the boob job before she turns 20, will have sold a "kiss and tell" about a journeyman footballer for a mid-table premiership club shortly after and, following her appearance on I'm a Celebrity and second ghost-written autobiography can buy some barbie-esque McMansion and ruin her neighbours peaceful enjoyment of their homes.

When that represents "the dream", you know the poor girl's from a ****hole.

Ha. Reminds me of my neighbour who used to eat dinner in the summer on a small table in the front garden in a bikini. Was like something from a Kenny Everett sketch. Classy bird.

How did she get her front garden into a bikini? Or is this all some kind of euphemism?

This thread really just looks like an excuse to both justify various prejudices and sneer at people who've had few choices in life.

    Some nasty generalizations here.

Just listening to Newstalk and the dumping problem in Ballymun.

Generalisations can sometimes be the truth.

    Jog on!

Few choices in life? This a joke, bro?

What chances does no need or what level of education does one need to ensure good civil standards are kept?
