Saw this on TV a few months back, the interior is fairly rough and ready and certainly won't win any design awards. :)

ya he definately needs a few cleaners in. so much potential to make that something special, but right now its a mess.

Seems he's hit another hurdle. The tug boat supposed to be pulling the barge is not available and they're struggling to find another capable one. Well, they found one but at an extra cost of €25k
Move date is still the 6 May though.

Well it's a hurdle that I didn't see. Saw many other problems that he would have to overcome. Hope that he sorts something though!

He must have won the lotto at some stage as money seems to be no barrier to him. I listened to his latest interview with Anton Savage & this guy is either nuts or a genius!! I can't believe I'm going to be out of the country for the big move....I was hoping to go and have a look

I just found out he was on again today - so here is the very latest!!

Great pic for a size comparison. Those birds are a lot bigger than we think.

Good timelapse here of the plane being loaded on the truck to move it to the barge in Shannon.

Barge had been at anchor in the shannon estuary this morning but moving into position now. Very interesting move. Hope to be in enniscrone to see the move that end.

this entire operation must be costing him a lot of money.

and surely this could have been done via road, over night done in stages?

It would have cost a lot more over a longer period of time as they would have had to dismantle bridges, power cables, trees etc to get the thing along

Supposed to be going on the boat today but rumour has it the wind might call a halt to it

taking off the wings and tail would get rid of most of that.

What have they done with the wings?

  • Registered Users Posts: 73,405 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Put them on the back of trucks, there was a video on YouTube.

No, the thing is too fit on any available trailer as you can see even without the wings the wheels hang off the edge, it's just not possible without spending a lot more then it would have cost just to send it on a barge

Plus the barge method attracts media attraction, which is the bonus plus

Came across a couple of short Youtube clips of the 767 lift at SNN.
Thats some trailer in the 2nd video they put the fuselage on to, of course the weather did its best to help out it looked bloody miserable.

You need to hand it to this fella. He's a character and pumping serious cash into a risky venture.

For all you landlubbers on here, you can follow the progress of the tug and barge combo on here (assuming this is the right tug).
