Curious how long after being stopped would a Summons and a fine take to arrive?

As far as I know as part of CPC the drivers of HGV's have to do a daily walk around inspection of their vehicle for faults before driving so driver can't use an excuse that they didn't know of the tyre being bald.

Yes that's a problem with some employers who want to do things on the cheap, I suppose an anonomous tipoff from the driver would work.

No job in the world is worth dying for/killing for.

What if he notices a bald tyre for weeks but the owner won't replace it and not doing his job isn't an option if he wants to keep it? Though I suppose the cops can't really differentiate so it makes sense to just leave it black and white.
Driver has to refuse to drive it.

Once you drive it, you're to blame. Owner can deny knowing about it after the fact.

Edit:lose your job or lose your licence.
You can't be fired for refusing to drive an unroadworthy vehicle

If they sack you for refusing to drive a defective vehicle, that must be grounds for unfair dismissal.

    This too shall pass.

    It is.

All well and good saying that until you lose it though. Especially as the dying/killing isn't a cert or even very likely.

I don't get this post, are you saying that have defective tyres isn't a cert of dying /killing someone or even very likely makes it OK to drive on them?

You cannot be sacked for refusing to drive a defective vehicle.
If any driver thinks that way they should not be on the road.

I always laugh at the numpties that make comments on garda twitter in their real names especially when these motorway checkpoints are publicised.

Do they really think there's a couple of garda just standing in middle of motorway scthicking their hands out to stop motorists?

Btw - the car tax part is purely an added bonus as this is easily checked with anpr systems. The motorway stops are excellent at disrupting criminals, non insurance and as above drunk drivers.

With the likelihood of 250 deaths on our roads this year and over 2000 serious debilitating injuries from road crashes, these setups are very welcome.

Anyone who has gone through one will know they are setup exceptionally well and cause no major delays to traffic.

That's a fairly new tractor unit too as that model was only released in 2014!

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Possibly is giving the location and colours but I'm saying no more! I couldn't disagree more as guys collecting milk always have the best of gear, well down here anyway!

Plus that truck is no more than 2 years old so the driver is an idiot!

They were out this morning, I'd say shooting fish in a barrel on one of the main routes into the city, the Rosbrien road, checking tax, insurance and NCT.

I've never seen them there before. Although others have told me they are there all the time.

Its about catching out non insured drivers, and those banned and those using marked diesel and those up to no good.

I've gone through 4 of them so far and delays have been minimal - they are extremely efficiently operated.
