He could well do as Trevor used to be in Labour. They were on Connemara radio last night and I thought Trevor did well, met him a few times. Won't be voting for his party but nice affable guy all the same. For all her talk about Connemara I didn't think Connolly knew much about the place, lots of talk about light rail... Fidelma was her usual car crash self, painful stuff.

I think Kyne will lose votes around Moycullen but will pick up other votes via Walsh not running.

Nolan borrowed Michael D's votes and did very little with them - I think he is gone.

It's just too hard to predict how O'Mahony will perform.

    So I am calling it as;
    O' Cuiv (FF)
    Grealish (IND)
    Kyne (FG)
    Connolly (IND)
    O' Clochartaigh (SF)

    (O'Mahony may displace O' Clochartaigh)

They visited GMIT for hustings Tuesday morning, I was there as apprently I'll have an exam question on those lovely people.

Mock vote seats went to O Tuathail, O'Mahony, Healy-Eames, Hubbard and Grealish. In that order.

Sheridan and Healy-Eames were throwing digs at each other and then she passed him a note.

Got a good vibe off O'Mahony, I wouldn't vote FG though. Grealish and Trevor Ó Clochartaigh
were very smiley, easy going in there manner in contrast to some of their very dull rivals.

Was great to see them, I think there was 12/13 in attendance.

Interesting to see O'Tuathail (SD) doing well. He is young which helped.

I am starting to like the Social Democrats more and more...their founders Donnelly, Murphy and Shortall are good vocal TDs.

On the surface I thought he looked interesting until he listed one of his achievements as having run David Hall's by-election campaign. That was the kiss of death for me. Anyone who would get into bed with Hall will never get a vote from me.

    Who is David Hall?

Ex- Fianna Failer and former casino owner currently keeping his name in the news on the back of the mortgage arrears campaign.

I'm very new to politics so I have a very possibly stupid question but why is Michaél Martin's poster on the way into my estate in Moycullen when he's not even an option on my election ballot paper....

It's this one... Arghhh...there are also about 16 of them into the village coming from from town on the N59...is it to weaken FG (i.e. Kyne) for the alleged bad act of the road works on the N59 taking so long? So we have to look at his (MM) ugly mug day after day while sitting in sometimes 25 min of traffic in the sheets of rain? And that's supposed to make me like FF? Not bloody likely!

Ironically after explicitly voting them out in 2011, FF are looking like the least worst option for me - still undecided as yet. Current Govt parties have absolutely done backflips to screw me in my own industry - inc 1 sitting TD telling lies to my face. The more left wing parties wouldn't have interest in it, so that considerably narrows my options. Never voted FF before.

Only 12 or 13 there?. Very small crowd from a large student body.
Candidates must have considered it a waste of their time

1 year+ of extremely badly operated roadworks. Ask anyone in Moycullen/Oughterard.

And all points West, woeful delays.

I think the roadworks were done because people wanted a footpath? In fairness it wasn't a stretch of road I'd like to walk with any regularity.

Doing the Moycullen bypass first may have been an idea.

That's how many candidates were there obviously. This is who turned up.

OK, but a TD, even a government TD had no operational responsibility for carrying out schemes. That is a matter for Council staff

The fecking road works are been carried out in front of his own family home also, so he may not even vote for himself!

Some rather odd posters have gone up around Claregalway and Oranmore -I.m not sure if they are for or against Hildegard Naughton.

Biblical sounding phrases like having your shoulder to the stone for seven years and not to be misled by false prophets.

Ah now, while I'm not blaming Sean, we know how life works here. A TD will have influence over at least a certain part of the CoCo/Corpo, particularly a recent coco himself.

I'm not arguing against your point, it's technically correct, just that we live in Ireland where rules are meant to be bent, broke, stuffed in suitcases and fired into canals when it suits the right people.

I think the 5 elected are o cuiv kyne Grealish Catherine Connolly and sf candidate

A lot of damage being done to election posters out West, mostly to SF and FF. Some outright stolen, holes cut in them, defaced, ties cut. Methinks it's going to be tit for tat until polling day, very childish stuff.

From what I heard Kyne organised a lot of meetings about the roadworks but achieved very little. I believe the contractors had a very advantageous contract but in the end were replaced. The roadworks themselves achieved very little and were due to end in November/December but are still ongoing.
He will lose votes from it but he should still get elected because Walsh pulled out.

Until Ireland gets their head around voting in TDs on a National agenda not local issues that should be dealt with by the local Councillors - we will always end up with a Dail full of just that, local Councillors who dont have a clue about the bigger picture.
I had hoped that the last election may have started us down that road, but it now seems we are going back to who can fill in the most pot holes gets elected

I completely agree on national agenda but I am calling it as I see it.
Our political system is completely dysfunctional.

Indeed. I had one current TD come to my door and tell me I should vote for him because he is likely to be the only Galway City TD to stand a chance of being elected and there would be no one to "represent the area" otherwise.

It's not hard to figure out - how many current TDs are from Galway city and standing for re-election?
