A yellow warning for strong winds also issued covering all of leinster, roscommon, cavan, monaghan, tipperary and Waterford. A windy episode ahead , nothing to serious, just peaking during the afternoon and evening rather than at night

Can't see why cork is on orange alert.
Looks to me to be more a northwest event

Strong to gale force and gusty west to southwest winds will bring damaging gusts with the brunt of the winds felt along Atlantic coasts. There'll be occasional rain or showers with some bright or sunny spells. Temperatures will fall steadily through the day to between 5 and 8 degrees by mid afternoon.

What strikes me about this event is the high waves and length of the warning. Having a storm with a warning valid for more than 12 hours is very rare.

Yes, for a genuine storm, but don't be fooled by the new "Storm" label. It's not technically a storm, more a wind event.

Will the coasts not experience Storm Force winds?
Did ME and UKMO not decide to name any storm reaching Orange warning Criteria?

Seriously, some of ye are just complaining now due to lack of something else to give out about.

Ah now, look back at your own posts here, 90% of them are "giving out" about other posters.

With the impending arrival of Henry, has this winter had more storm/Wind events :D or has the naming system highlighted it more.

It is already gusting over 70km/hr in Castlebar, looks like it is going to be a fun 34 hours, it will be more noticeable than Gertrude due to the peak wind time being in the afternoon/evening and not in the the early hours in the morning.

The worst type of rain ever

Sounds like it'll be like Desmond, without the downpours. That storm gave us gusts of 60k upwards for nearly 36 hours. Winds have increased here in the last few hours, few noticeable gusts the last hour. Limerick

Wonder if they did that deliberately!

Wouldent have to go far to experince hurricane force winds. Looks like the Isle of Harris and North and South Uist right in the firing line of such winds.

Wish we could switch off the weather for a while; life seems to consist of storms and getting over storms and preparing for storms..Maybe I am too old for weather! No wind in heaven they say
