People who sit on the jacuzzi and just let their calves rest in them...i'm sure there is a valid reason to this but if you sat in the jacuzzi your calves would still get the bubbles

Temperature control. The more of you body you have submerged the hotter you get. If you've ever been in a proper hot tub at 40degrees you'd the odd break sitting on the edge.

Very strange thing to be bothered by imo

This could be an issue if said jacuzzi was in Iceland or Japan, etc where everyone is in the nip.

What's wrong with being naked? Especially in an environment where everyone is naked.

Some people are incredibly juvenile about the human body. Being a little nervous about revealing your own is one thing, but actively complaining about someone being naked in a place specifically intended for naked people is a little absurd.

I've literally heard female friends complaining about seeing a woman walking naked from the showers in a locker room.

But don't forget that a lot of people are in the gym to improve the body they're not even comfortable with clothed.

I get where you're coming from though, and I'm one of the lads who'd walk bollock naked around the showers & locker room. I've to remind myself from time to time that a lot of the people who are terrified of revealing their naked body probably hate the same body clothed.

I've all but given up weight training in Northwood so no one around the weights or machines bother me, but I swim there most evenings and if there's one thing which drives me buts are none swimmers or complete beginners use the swim/training lanes. Lane sharing is cool, its not all the time you'll have a clear lanes to yourself but don't be a dick and block up a lane because you can't swim or you're a complete beginner.

There's a bloody swim etiquette signage up, read it.

It's absolutely fine if people have issues with their own body. Such is their right, and entirely normal.
I think Zillah was complaining more about people projecting those issues on to other people.

I could never stand swimming the gym for the reason. I know fast/slow speeds is subjective. but if some somebodys fast speed is the same as the average slow speed, then they should be in the slow lane.

I've been thinking starting to swim a bit in the mornings. Although I might just practise holding my breath underwater instead. :P

Oh i have no problem with it, have been to the Onsens in Japan loads and love them. I did know a few people who weren't keen on them, so i said it could be an issue

If they aren't keen on them, they wouldn't be using them. so complaining about people sitting with their leg in the hot tub is still weird imo.

Back to annoying gym behaviour, the wanna be PT going around correcting everyones form. Except the exercises he thinks you are doing, isn't the one you are actually done.

Had a member of staff in the gym in Trinity College come up and tell me "I'm not sure you're doing those squats right", which was nice to hear, since I was doing Good Mornings.

    That. Fucking. Place.

A friend of mine went there and got coaching from what I can only describe as a psychotic sadist. This person would send demeaning emails to her clients when they didn't show up often enough. She'd send five page motivational new-agey pamphlets. She taught him the wrong form on almost everything. When he showed me his deadlift it was some bizarre rounded back hybrid somewhere between a regular and a straight leg. Total mess.

It's also a tiny, sweaty, crowded, under-supplied crap hole that costs as much as Flyefit. I really have no idea why anyone would be a member. I tried it out once.

Hope you don't mind me posting here! I've been following/reading the thread for a while now and finally have something to contribute! I've worked out with a trainer in his own gym before but recently had to move to a full gym. A few annoying things for me:

People on phones. I'm always a little worried they are taking sneaky photos of me and sending them to their friends to mock me. I know some people in the gym hate me for being there simply because I'm fat. Knowing that is kinda annoying too actually.

Mirrors. Trust me, any hatred people have for me is nothing compared to how I hate my own body. I can't stand the sight of myself so the wall to wall mirrors are highly annoying. I feel sick and disgusted whenever I see my own reflection so you can imagine how uncomfortable it is in the gym! Doesn't stop me from going but sure is annoying!

Weights in the wrong order on the rack. Is it that hard to put them back with the right sizes?

Guys coming into the ladies only area to show ladies what to do. Even if the lady asks them to it's just not on!

Oh yeah a word of explanation. There is one treadmill in my gym that doesn't have a mirror in front of it. When I do use them I'll always use that one regardless of how many are free and who is beside me. :P

This is all in your head. I use my phone plenty while in the gym. All I'm doing is recording my workout and pissing about on the internet between sets. While there is a chance that someone is taking photos of you and sending them on to their friends to mock you, the chances are extremely low to be practically non existent. You may as well worry that an asteroid is going to hit the gym while you're in there.

Also, I doubt any one hates you because you are fat. Seriously, who hates someone because they're fat? At worst you might annoy someone by doing certain things most of which will be stupid like taking 'their' machine or whatever but who gives a shít.

On one hand, if some people need that then more power to them. But on the other hand, is it not really condescending? Does it not just reinforce the idea that women aren't welcome in the weights section?

reading this made me really sad, while most of the post in this thread as just stupid annoyances this goes deeper, its the issue so many people avoid going to the gym, its the reason why at 20 stone i avoided the gym...
i was scared that this was going to happen to me:

and it did, walking on the treadmill with earphones in, my sister on the threadmill next to me earphones in, me huffing and puffing but still workin it, and two girls walk past to the stretching area and one comments to the other, jesus why waste the time, id kill myself if i was that fat, disgusting... and laughed.
because my sister was on the other threadmil we didnt have the earphones turned on, we both heard them, so did one of the personal trainers standing in the area they were walking too. he said nothing, despite clearly hearing them. i said nothing i was mortifed, id lost about two stone myself and started walking in the gym (i have crohns so the gym suits me better than the great outdoors most days for practical reasons) im not proud of it but i cried.
so it does happen, but, you could get knocked down crossing the road so do you stop doing it?

chin up, your doing the work, **** everyone else.

some women dont feel as comfortable lifting weights in the mens section, their catering to that group.
i hate the idea of womens gyms and sections... at first i thought it was because ya know the boys would be looking at your bits... then i realised women are worse then men for the judging, take the links i posted above for example, the two most famous ones are women were women shaming other women, not men laughing at men or women for that matter.

lads dont care, their all about the posing or gainz lolz.
i can hang with the boys in the weights section but the only this is, put your shoes on lads, socks are not suitable, ye stink! :-0

    I deadlift in my socks

They're doing renovations at the moment so the weights area is mixed now, plenty of both in there. Don't know if they'll bring it back

Those articles are exactly why I have that fear. It does happen. There's also the group who went and handed out cards to overweight people that said I hate you because you're fat (happened in London).

And believe me, I've had it said to my face too many times to count.

Doesn't stop me running or working out, but it does make me uncomfortable and very self conscious. The ladies only area is a free weights area that's partitioned off from the main gym. I'm more comfortable there especially because I go when it's not busy so usually have the place to myself.

One of the idiots who works in BD's Northwood (they have to be the worse gym staff in the entire world) pulled me up for wearing flip flops in the weights area. He actually told me to stop training and leave the area.

I asked what was the problem.. Well I get this, if a weight falls on my foot it'll injure me ~ see, I'm an adult and I get this!.. So I pointed out the people training in socks and trainers and asked him would he be asking those people in the interest of health and safety if they'd mind wearing steel toe safety boots, only to be told no 'socks and trainers are fine'

Yup, sometimes even the staff are a special kind stupid.

A chap in my gym dries his whole body after a shower by standing in front of a big mirror and uses no towel just the gyms built in hairdryer.
