Really on a roll for 2016!

Apparently 5 new routes out of Cork by different operators to be announced tomorrow.

I hope the DAA will get equal amounts of praise for all their work as they did when "nothing apparently" was being done for Cork airport months ago.

Well they got the finger out because they did absolutely nothing from 2009 to 2014. Being honest. Absolutely credit where its due, the DAA and CAA with the new appointment of Anita Gackowska from AENA are doing heaps for the region this year. Congratulations to the team.

There could be more at play than just getting Cork to suddenly reach its potential. This growth is amazing and if tommorows 5 routes come to play I think it's excessive. Let's see how many routes last into 2017, and how gets the wagging finger out when a route fails.

Been honest though, lower fuel prices, economic upturn, reduced taxes such as travel tax are far bigger drivers I suspect. They didn't do enough in recent years however not many were in the mood for expanding either. It was only really 2012 when DUB started to increase again.

Would assume Ryanair, lets hope for truly "new" routes.

    Cork Boston still not confirmed.

It seems like a lot of these supposed new routes are still not available to book!

That because the flight is BCN-ORK-BOS.

Norwegian haven't got approval from the US authorities to operate the service yet - that was made clear at the time of the announcement - it was subject to regulatory approval.

They're not going to start selling seats on a service that they don't have approval for.

Any chance of the SNN-NCE being moved to Cork?

No, it's basically a Barcelona to Boston flight that will stopover to pick up fuel and passengers in Cork en route (if it comes to fruition).

    Any increases on existing routes?
With an extra based aircraft we are getting:
    *6 weekly SNN-EDI
    *5 weekly ORK-SOU
    *3 weekly ORK-LBA

Stobarts in cork regularly do 4 daily rotations, so 28 movements a week. From the above I only see half of that, 14 movements.

    Man to 3 daily maybe?

Just think that myself...what type of passenger are they aiming at?? Inbound Tourism??? Or is there a industrial link with some major companies.

Cant see myself doing a weekend away in Southampton myself..

Students, football, concerts, inbound tourism. Leeds is an IT business centre.

They'll have done more than cursory research

Well if we look at Dublin, Leeds/Bradford warrants two daily return EI Regional flights and two daily Ryanair flights, while Southampton warrants four daily return Flybe flights.

So clearly an awful lot of people do not agree with your analysis of those destinations.

I'd also question where you were expecting, given that it was EI Regional? There's pretty much a link now to every part of GB from Cork with these two additions. Short of adding Aberdeen or Inverness in Scotland, or Exeter or Newquay in the south west, there's not many more possible destinations that could be added.

Southampton makes alot of sense as it can cover the whole South coast. The Newquay flight back with Air Southwest used be very popular back in the day. Much of it will be vfr (visiting friends/relatives) traffic

Southampton will be perfect for anyone going on a cruise, very busy there at weekends.

Yes it's huge for cruise passengers but I think people are forgetting the Irish population in that part of the UK, it will save the Irish/relatives based in the Winchester/Bournmouth and Southampton areas traveling to Heathrow to get flights to the south of Ireland!
    I hope it does well
