Vodafones margins are better on SIRO no doubt thus their hesitation to sell via OpenEir.

Yes I know. My point was that waiting has cost them already in my example. They could have raised the price a bit and recovered the setup money over the duration of the contract.

Does anyone know If KN isnt able to complete the installation on the first try as in my case, will Eir inform me about the new appointment when the time comes?

It's strange why Sky and Vodafone didn't provide the service. My phone can pickup about 10 residential wifi signals, a majority of them were sky. Now all bar one is eir. That's potential business lost for 18 months in most cases. They got their strategy wrong in this case I think.
Managing installs is a PITA. Once the line/cable is installed, in situ migrations to another operator are a lot easier. I guess Sky will wait, and start providing FTTH when there are enough out of contract customers to target.

I think FTTH Sky will be a long time coming, even longer than the wait for them to provide FTTC. In the UK Sky still don't offer FTTH except in York I think.

Was supposed to have my second attempt at installation this morning after initial installation didn't go ahead because of an issue with overhead trees. Got a date, and triple checked everything was OK. Got call from KN engineer this morning about "installing a modem". I said "its a fibre to the home installation". He said he's never done one, and his order was just to install a modem from a copper line. Back on to Eir, Openeir, Customer Care. About six phone calls. Eventually, one decent woman at Customer Care persisted, and said my case was being escalated. Said she was on until 6.30pm and would call me if and when she got a response from OpenEir, the wholesale provider.
What a complete cock-up, and such imcompetence.
Don't know where exactly the fault lies, but Eir are the retailer, so it's their responsibility.
All let down by poor communication

Half the people at eir don't seem to know the difference between fibre and fibre to home so that's not surprising

Has anyone who's got installed, upgraded their router? I'm not having any issues with the F2000, but the reception upstairs could be better, so wondering if I should update the router or just splash out on some extenders?

If you are getting extenders, eir sell TP-Link TL-WPA281 V2s for €30 http://support.eir.ie/homeplug/ which is much cheaper than buying anywhere else in fairness. I find them good but then again I am on a 15 Mb connection and not fibre. I have two sets.

Do Eir still sell them? I can't see a link to purchase.

You have to contact sales/technical support I think. In my case I think it was technical support.

Sure it would be too easy to make it straightforward wouldn't it?

Looks like the ftth rollout stops 4 poles from my house.
Emailed the nbp and nothing will happen before 2018. No application process no timescales for amber areas ro be upgraded hence it's just another whitewash nothing will happen.
Anyone know when the next national broadband plan is due ?

They are due to have awarded the NBP and kick off roll out by end of 2018 I believe.

Might be better detail in the NBP thread

would those fix the wireless issues with the F2000 not working properly with mobile devices?

I'd say they could work well in your case Gonzo. One day back when I was with eir I turned off the wifi on the eir router and just used the tp-link. No problems. At the moment I can't even tell if I am getting a signal from the router or one of the two extenders. I am living in an old house with walls up to 3 ft wide so it used to be a major issue but not anymore. I wouldn't say the wiring in my house is top notch either and they still work well.

One issue I did have at the start was communication between my wireless printer on the extender and devices on the router wireless network. I fixed this by using ethernet between the range extender and printer and I have had no problems since. I think that issue was more the printer than anything else.

You just have to laugh at eir! Conversation with Tech Support through online Chat:

Me: How can I find out about the price and availability of the TP Link wifi extender you have on your website?
eir: You can place the order here if you want and it will cost €29
Me: does that cost include delivery charge?
eir: You would need to talk to Sales team to ask about that. Do you want me to transfer you to a sales representative?

I think in my case the delivery was included and the price added to my next bill if you're still wondering. Did they order them for you? The lack of communication between departments within eir continue to baffle me...

There is alot of work by KN taking place on behalf of Eir south of Dunshaughlin and Rathbeggan on the old N3 road (R147) from where the yellow line stops and goes almost as far as the roundabout beside the M3 toll gate area. There are lots of new manholes being created and taffic lights are in place to control from both directions. Looks like the initial work they were doing in my area, however this section of road is not yellow lined, could it be a new FTTH run?

edit: just thinking perhaps it could be a fibre connection that they are gonna build all the way out to the new Shire facility that is currently being built near the Avoca centre.

How would shire be able to get a fibre connection to themselves without being an ISP? Can any business request a fibre connection?

Any business can request a fibre connection from any retail ISP, and the retail ISP can ask a wholesale provider to build the fibre circuit for them. We've installed a number of dedicated fibre circuits to businesses around Mayo (and one to a primary school).

It's not a cheap option, especially if there's new fibre build with civils involved, but it's certainly doable.

Got a call from KN to install a new phone line tomorrow (hopefully they mean reactivation) I asked whats next after that and they said Eir will need to check what speed the phone line can support afters its installed. I said its fibre to the home and doesn't use the phone line, didn't seem to mean anything to them..Here we go again. Everyone involved seems to be clueless, surprised anyone has actually gotten this installed successfully

Have you ordered FTTH + VOIP or FTTH + POTS? If the former the KNN controller has assigned a tech that's not skilled up and will just leave.

I ordered 150mb extreme fibre + unlimited calls + eir vision tv. I'm expecting it just to be landline activation then ftth a few days later which is what others who got it installed here seem to be implying. The only thing I've heard about VOIP is from one Eir sales rep. Not sure how accurate that is as nobody has posted here about getting the phone as VOIP. The KN person who called wasn't a technician just letting me know one will be here tomorrow.

The only information we have at the moment regarding VOB from eir is that they have a targeted trial in place.

Engineers have been installing black boxes on the poles outside the houses of my neighbours just down the road. I assume these are the FTTH boxes? They stopped installing them just two houses down (so the nearest box is around 200m away from us). When inputting eircodes on the online eir-Fibre 1000Mb availability checker, all the houses with the black boxes outside have 1000Mb available to them. Then when I input my eircode it says "Not available".

I got onto eir over the phone and they said that they have no plans to cover our area! So they have no plans to come 200m further to cover us!

There was even a sales lady who had the cheek to come to the door trying to sell us the 1000Mb service. When we told her that we couldn't get it she said that she was sure that we could and to try changing over to vodafone then changing back to eir and then you will get the 1000Mb FTTH service!

How would one go about getting them to put one of those black boxes outside the house? I understand it's a 3rd party company that does it. If I found out who they are could I try and persuade them to come and install one final box to cover us?

No box on our pole but able to get it (can see the fibre cable on the pole though). Someone posted here that there's a max of 4 houses between each box but it could depend on the distance between the boxes. Have you checked if your house is on the yellow line here http://fibrerollout.ie/where-and-when/

I very much doubt you have any hope of getting FTTH before the NBP is rolled out.

I am still trying to figure out why you want a PSTN line activated and did not just choose FTTH+TV for the install, and then arrange your telephone service with another provider if eir would not provide it via VOIP.

Eventually eir will be pulling the copper and moving everyone to VOIP.

Originally I was going to just get the ftth but there was only 6 euro difference per month between the bundle that included the 3 and standalone broadband. I didn't see any option for just ftth+tv. Wouldn't mind getting rid of the current voip we have anyway. The only benefit of getting standalone broadband would be for it to be installed faster but then I saw people here saying that they ordered standalone broadband but eir still sent someone out to activate the phone line for whatever reason.

Seems to be eir staff confusion between fibre and fibre extreme ..... a confusion created by eir themselves when trying to dupe people into believing they were getting FTTH when it was FTTC they were providing at the time.
If eir had been honest with people and in their advertising, they would not now be suffering the ire of customers because of this confusion.
