that seems to be a big mix of years for U18's 6th, 5th and 4th years. Were Blackrocks 6th years really young this year?

  • Registered Users Posts: 87 ✭✭RugbyRugby2016

Dunne, Doris, O'Brien and Dean are in 6th year so they would be quite young for their year, I think the majority of the other 6th years were u19s (the 2 props were Leinster u18 last season & McGowan, Mullins and killgallen u19 this year)

Ryan, Murphy and McLaughlin are in 5th year, while turner is a 4th year

Would they really be quite young for their year? All depends on when they turn 18

Is there many schools competitions still to be finished. Main cups are finished but what about the rest?

    True.

Id assume most of the cups are finished or finishing up in the next week or so.

Not surprising considering their performances in the cup. That lad Hawkshawin particular is a seriously talented athlete, member of the Dublin hurling and football panels as well.

if they are u18 in 6th year then they are in the younger half of their year.

    Both squads named now.

Great to finally see our best potential under 18s taking part in international competition. Shame numbers of club players who'll play internationally Is down, for now.

Not the strongest side anyway, missing some very good players due to injury.

Conor Nash, Jack Aungier & Sean O'Brien to start with anyway, all who played Ireland u18 last season.

Sorry I should have clarified. Barring injury its the first time our best under 18s will be playing on the one international team.

Surely there should be more players from Belvo that that? They played by far the best rugby in the cup. Loads of Blackrock players there as per usual.... what a surprise

A lot of Belvo players were u19.

Not surprising Blackrock have so many, they have a lot of talented individuals.

Questionable selection of Andrew Murphy/Richard Dunne over Max Kearney, Kearney was one of Belvo's best players

    yup, although is he injured?
I'd have him in there, but I'm guessing his size was a problem. But other than him, there isn't many you can complain about.

Hes not injured as far as I know. I think there are quite a few you could complain about unless age grades are a problem for a lot of the Belvo players

They may have had a lot of under 19s and its not just schools players that are involved. Best clubs and exiles also taken into account. Winning the leinster schools cup doesn't mean you should have most players on the irish side especially now that clubs, exiles players are on same side as schools.

well given the lack of club players i'd hardly be championing their inclusion. Terrible for the club game who is fighting with GAA for players.

I know I was referring more in comparison of the number of Belvo players to Blackrock

Surprised Max Kearney isnt there he was arguably the best back row in the Leinster schools cup

and also one of the smallest, it's going to be a battle he will fight aslong as he is that size.

should be included but not surprised he isn't.

Considering what he did against Blackrock and Roscrea his size isn't really a problem

    is he that small?

Jesus I know, I agree, tell that to the coaches.

And anyway this is another step up in terms of size etc. He may have struggled with it or he may not have, the coaches have made their decision. All Kearney can do now is try make Leinster u19.
