Day 2 of the big freeze in Arklow
    Currently 7.1c and sunny
    Bit breezy

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,920 ✭✭✭pauldry

Bar anyone here predicting cold most charts exaggerate the cold or warm in summer. If a 10 day looks like 0c its generally 5 or 6c. This weekend last week looked blizzards. Then wednesday snow in north then friday snow for 2 hrs then today 11.8mm of RAIN in sligo to swell the garavogue

So GFS charts dark blue means wintry showers n purple means 1 or 2c

Snow continues to be rare but therel be lots of short cold snaps this winter. If this weekend is 1 id say 12.

Day three of the big freeze in Arklow
    Sunny 6.5 c No frost

Meanwhile the third main news item on rte radio one this morning was it was going to go below freezing before 9pm this evening...
On that Part I kid you not, it was a news item, not the forecast
I thought Waterford whispers had taken over their newsroom

Its bizarre I honestly think this winter could be the worst yet in terms of exaggerated weather stories. There is absolutely nothing unusual about our weather this weekend. Its typical end of November weather. Why its deemed worthy of a place on the news headlines is ridiculous. Its almost as if the rampers have taken over the news agenda.

over the past 4 days we've had a few bits of rain and sleet and about 3 hours of frost early on Friday evening and that warrented blanket coverage of this 'cold snap' on newspapers and even some tv channels. Unbelievable!.

Remember now folks folks, worth a reminder,it was the third item on the rte radio one news this morning.. Frost is to set in by 9pm as temps go below freezing
That was a news item, headlining that temps will go below freezing by nine tonight

Please keep the reports coming on this unprecedented event!

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,235 ✭✭✭Oneiric 3

If this weekend's 'cold snap' is a taste of what is to come this winter, then you can keep it. Give me a raging, warm SW'ly with driving rains anytime over this pointless tripe.

    New Moon

I'm afraid the media in Ireland are quickly turning into the tabloid wafflers of the UK Daily Mail-Maddenesque genre. The reason is of course that there is a market for it, because most people watch, read and listen to it.

Temperatures in Sligo have "plumetted" to 3.5c on what will be the coldest November night in "at least a year"

A possible storm, which could be on track to affect Ireland, however these storms tend to decrease in intensity as they approach us.

+138hrs is a long way away in terms of different outcomes. :)

Still looking like a chance for showers to turn from rain to something more wintry for a brief window on Friday evening, though probably just on higher ground/northern parts.

Not much else interesting happening around here in the coming days it seems.

Look like those of us who urged caution and were sceptical about any cold snowy weather coming before the end of November are going to be right.

Imagine if we just had mild wet windy weather every week

    We dont

    We get something like

    2 snow days
    10 frost days
    8 mild sunny days
    15 wet days
    15 cloudy days
    6 storms
    20 showery days
    10 hail shower day
    4 sunny windy days
