Just started light rain in Arklow from that system now after a dry day
Looks like we'll get 2 or 3 hrs here right on its northern edge

Check out the difference between the 12Z GFS and 12Z GEM for 3pm tomorrow.

Barney is a tricky little one.

Should gusts be expected to exceed 130km/h or mean speed 80km/h then its a red. If they are just below 130km/h expect an orange.

I have to say it but the name 'Barney' for a storm just sounds a bit ridiculous. In the other parts of the world for example, they have the likes of Hurricane Andrew or Typhoon Vamco. Big names for big worthy storms. 'Storm Barney' on the other hand just sounds so lame and comical and to be frank, slightly embarrassing if one was to discuss it with their social peers. Add to that, the name 'Barney' instantly invokes images of fluffy purple pink dinosaurs that grin at you in a rather creepy, unnerving way.

that's in line with yr.no and MTCs forecast of 10-20 mm generally
seems to sweep up fairly quick

a very interesting forecast there on Radio 1 from met eireann which ended in "please stayed tuned to the latest forecasts as the development of storm Barney is uncertain and wind warnings are like to be updated regularly" , during the forecast she also said "it will become stormy in the south and south east of the country tomorrow afternoon"

12Z ECM quite similar to 12Z ARPEGE. Maybe even a tad stronger at 24 hours.

It will also be become extremely windy or stormy over the southern half of the country as southwesterly winds will increase across Munster and parts of south Leinster for the afternoon and early evening. Winds will be strongest for coastal counties. Highest temperatures of 8 to 13 degrees

12Z GEM has a small area of 80 km/h mean winds over the north midlands. This could be completely wrong of course.

It sure does. Are you used to that sort of wind there?
I'm near athenry but a bit worried because the trees still have a few leaves. I hope they don't come down with those inland gusts.

Not really used to those winds in this far, maybe out towards loop head but now in towards Kilrush.
