So Liam Brady reckons that United dodged a bullet in not signing Pedro. With Dunphy also reckoning that Depay wouldn't get a game at city it looks i'm going to have to tear up my transfer plans. Dunphy had something slightly positive to say about Yaya too so i'm glad i went with Silva :)

It was City reserves Dunphy said. Depay definitely wouldn't get a game in City first team ;)

Nope, last time Club Brugges I checked don't ply their trade in the English Premier League.

He didn't score against Villa or Newcastle which I'd say are similar/slightly worse in standard to Brugges,
and got a very lucky assist against a Spurs team who haven't taken off yet themselves.

He could be a good differential but he's too much of a risk at his price point at the minute for me, as United aren't scoring for fun in the League.

I think Busts put it best yesterday when he said it's been a long time since we've seen a viable long term attacking United player in FF.

Welbeck wasn't even at a champions league club for this stage last year!

Nice shout. He didn't sign until nearer the deadline.

Rooney has averaged more than 6 points per game, nearly 7, in 2 out of the last 3 seasons. Last season being the dip where he played very deep... doesn't look like he'll be back there soon unless a major signing is made.

He's not on my near radar at present but he is a FPL points getter and he doesn't get the credit he deserves on here imo. I think it was iroced that had a very good post comparing his stats vs Aguero's last year and it surprised a quite a few (including myself).

Rooney has regressed as a player and does not work well in this new united system as much as he did in previous seasons. An average of 6 points per game is still not good value for money for a 10.4 striker. Bear in mind he has lost penalties which will affect his PPG.

I just had a look at Aguero's stats vs Rooney last season and they are not comparable at all

Here is a snapshot below of their main stats in comparison to one another. It is fair to say that Aguero offers better value at 13.0 than Rooney at 10.4

All those stats don't mean much at all this season.
Rooney played much of last season in midfield.

The big problem so far for Rooney is he hasn't gotten much ball to attack to score goals. He scored a legit goal on Saturday wrongly ruled offside but apart from that I can't remember a chance that he has missed simply because no one is creating any chances for him.

You'll have to look hard to find anyone who would try to compare Rooney with Aguero last year. And it's not a Rooney vs/or Aguero thing.

My point was that it isn't too long since United had an attacking force. For the previous 2 seasons he averaged more than 6 points per game. If you wouldn't pay 10.4m for 6+ per game then fair enough... Given that they remained fit, you're looking at 200+ points. I certainly would pay it.

Funnily enough, he had 10 points in the bag by HT in GW4 last year... And Busts :) who doesn't think United have had an attacking force in years captained RVP.... a lot can change in football in a short time... I wouldn't dismiss Rooney just yet.
(Was trying to find iroced post when GW4 from last year popped up)

Don't think I posted the original one but I did refer to it a couple of times.
But LVG system doesn't seem to suit him as well as Fergie one. The team around him is also weaker. He plays deeper.

I bigged him up for their home game vs Newcastle (despite selling him for Aguero). If he can't do it against them, there's no FPL reason to keep him for their tougher run. Of course tonight's game would have boosted his confidence. Of course he could hit a hot streak. Because he's a world class player. But FPL wise now he's not worth it. He'd be using too much budget for his returns.

I think it's very early to dismiss him. Time will tell how he and United do. It's only 2 weeks since he was topping capt polls and netting me 10 precious points.

He's not on my radar at all at present and I agree re budget (he wouldn't been in my team if Aguero was fit GW1) but I'm fairly sure he'll hit form and be considered throughout the year.

I had this discussion about Rooney in a previous season, either last year or the season before.

The problem with him is that he's always been overpriced. Bar one season where he was fantastic until February/March, I've never consistently had him in my team because there were always better alternatives available who provided greater value for money e.g. Drogba, Tevez, RVP, Ade, Yakubu.

I think the point I originally made re Wellbeck still stands though. I wouldn't read too much into a striker scoring a hat trick against a team from a poor European league.

I said in the post fergie era which is the last 2 seasons;). Rooney in 2013/2014 had a decent FF season but I wouldnt class him as a viable option that year. He was priced at 11 or 11.5. The 2nd or 3rd most expensive player in the game. Suarez was a must have and sturridge delivered more points in less minutes for 2 million less. Midfielders like yaya and hazard outscored him and then there was the likes of ade going on a great run after sherwood took over. Dzeko also had a great run for city that year. IMO Rooney didnt offer value for money that year. If I recall he went on a good run leading up to xmas when a bandwagon kicked in only for him to be troubled by a groin injury over the xmas period.
Last year there was no consistency from any Utd player from an FF perspective bar ADM in the first 6-8 weeks. The goals were fairly spread out and each time one of their players got a decent run going by the time you moved to them it had stopped and another one of their options was getting the points.
This year I think because of the way the past 2 seasons have gone Utd players are priced well. However bar a 4-6 week spell last season when Utd beat Spurs, liverpool and city and looked really good from an attacking sense they just havent looked like scoring enough goals. Id be far more comfortable having city, chelsea and arsenal attackers.
If they can get their attack functioning properly Id be very keen on both mata and depay. Mata I think is great value but I feel he needs to be played centrally and Im not sure LVG is convinced by him.
On Rooney Id consider him if they start firing and he is on penos which I think he is. An interview with LVG last night indicated to me that rooney was on pens.
    Oh ye and VOTE HAZARD:D

Ye I remember that and lvg was asked about rooney giving up the chance to score a 4th last nite by not taking the pen. I can't remember his exact response but it indicated to me that rooney was the pen taker.

He said it was very generous of him to give the penalty to Hernandez and was a sign of a sign of a good captain trying to help his team mate.

    Mata will take penalties.

Would u think that means he is on pens.

It certainly means he is first choice when Mata is not on the pitch. Mata was given penalties last year due to Rooney's poor record and it remains to be seen if this is still the case.

There has been some talk that United actually have a rotation now for penalty takers but this has not been verified

After a bit of faffing around I've gone Young -> Westwood (FT)

Not entirely happy with my team but don't see much point in doing a -4 or -8 just before the break so probably going to leave it as is, even with 1.8m in the bank.

Think I'm going to just settle with Puncheon -> Mahrez with my free transfer.

Puncheon was trucking along nicely for points, but Mahrez offers a slight bit more and also has the advantage of upward trajectory in value that can be banked if he hits a poor run of form later.

Looking at my team, if I don't have a good week this week, I may as well give up. No players up against each other and favourable match ups (with exception of maybe Ayew and Gomis). It looks as if the stars are aligned for me....

Obviously going to have a terrible week so!

I'd be considering Cameron for the starting lineup ahead of Sakho. West Brom are anything but potent goal scorers.

Yeah I did have that earlier, may well change back. Partly for the reason you give and also for the fact that I keep benching the wrong bloody defenders - have missed Ward and Francis' big scores.

Balls, that will be my transfer this week in that case, could work out alright as the world is my oyster with a bit of money in the bank and a wildcard in the next couple of weeks, Kolorov is jumping out at me, are we assuming at this stage that Clichy will be a cup player or is there still a risk of occasional rotation?
I'm way out of the loop this year for a few reasons, gonna have to up my game or I'll be a serious also ran, haven't looked at anything except this forum since the year started, everything else is gone from my frequently visited sites:P

Wouldn't even claim to know how the LB rotation will work, would maintain Kolarov is worth the risk until I see otherwise though.

Looking to play my WC after this GW so looking to take a one-time punt on a midfielder under 7.5 for this GW only.

    Who would you go for?

    Shaqiri (wba H)
    Navas ( Watford H )
    Mahrez ( Bournemouth a )
    Chadli (Everton H)

    Or any other suggestions?

I'd go for Shaqiri. He looked very good last week and West Brom are uncharacteristically shaky in defence

Think i'll bench Coleman this week. Don't think they'll keep a clean sheet.
Might play my swansea defender given uniteds poor scoring record.

This is based on nothing but speculation, but I've a fear that Kolarov will be rotated this week given it is Watford.

Thinking about banking this week as to get Pedro in would mean a -4, which might be fine, but I don't really want to change any other part of my team right now.

Doesn't historically Kolarov get the easier matches anyway since Clichy is better defensively? Pellegrini would be mental to rotate the side the way they're playing, there are plenty of League Cup and easy CL matches to come

I am currently considering something and would appreciate your thoughts on the matter

This is my -4 Points Team at the moment for GW4

    uA5VHWP.jpg

I am not happy with Southampton and with Pelle's contribution so far and was thinking of swapping him out for Diouf of Stoke.

Diouf is likely to rise by 0.1 before Saturday. Pelle is a possiblilty to drop but he might squeak by. Is it completely crazy to consider taking a -8 to swap them now ?

I'm likely to WC after this weekend to avail of the break.

    Your thoughts are welcome :)
