I love Politics and I'm a big fan of suits so I would be lying if that path didnt cross my mind once or twice. What is MUN just out of curiosity?

It's Model United Nations. It's a political debate type activity where you represent a delgation in a simulation of a UN conference. You get to debate different topics which are current and stuff. It's popular in colleges and lots of secondary schools are doing it now too :)

Do you want to do it in UCD or trinity? :)

Trinity is my first choice, but I'd be happy with UCD too! After that I'd take Economics, Politics and Law in DCU.

Yeah I want to do it in UCD! I'd consider that DCU course too but it doesn't cover you to get into kings inn. I don't know if I want to be a barrister though so I might put it down

Don't worry too much about it yet anyways! CAO doesn't open for another few months so you've plenty of time to research career paths! :)

Hi, guys I'm also repeating. One piece of advice I'd give to first timers is to get into a routine as early as you can but also leave enough time to have a social life (even if small) :) The year will fly

Starting back tomorrow and I have to say I'm absolutely dreading it. Did a wee bit of study over the break but nothing mad. The thoughts of having to get back into a routine makes me want to cry though. At least the first week should be easy enough... hopefully!

Still unsure as to what I'd like to do college-wise, but I've been thinking either Primary Teaching in Mary I or Psychology in NUIG or DCU. They're both quite a lot of points but should be achievable if I put the head down early.

Not sure if you're aware but Mary I has a course in Education and Psychology which lets you teach in Primary Schools or go into the field of psychology. Might be the best of both worlds in your case :P

Ah I remember reading a bit about that course a few months ago! As you said, it sounds like the best of both worlds but I can't see myself getting the points for it :(

Hey! It's always something to work towards! It's the perfect thing to motivate you :) Don't give up before September has even hit!

Back tomorrow and only sorting out my schoolbag now! This week will drag I'd say but hopefully I'll get into the swing of things soon.

Anyone heading up to Higher Options? I don't know whether or not I'll go...Is it helpful?

I went to Higher Options last year, in fairness it wasnt that helpful in the sense that all of the information that they give you is online but it can be good to talk to the people who know the courses one-on-one. Also it's actually quite a fun day walking around with friends, they had a few chippers and stuff outside haha.

I'd agree with CathalRyano, I remember DCU & Trinity had a couple of people there from each department but I don't think I ended up speaking to anyone who was involved in any of the courses I wanted to do. Also theres not as much free stuff as you'd think there would be

First day back today and Twas grand, got the usual speeches, timetable etc. Best part of the day was getting my new Irish teacher, she seems really interested and helpful which is great cause my teacher for 5th year wasn't..... I guess I'll be staying in HL for another while

I would definitely advise anyone who isn't fully incapable of doing HL to stick with it. It may be because I had a fantastic teacher but it became clear to me with the 40% oral that it was very manageable to get an honour in it. (Probably a lot easier to get a B in it than a C in a lot of other subjects) I know of two people who tried to drop as they thought they were hopeless but were talked out of it halfway through 6th year and ended up getting a B2 and B3.

Two of my friends and myself included were doubting HL Irish last year. We were contemplating dropping down so we could focus on English and our other HL subjects. In the end all three of us ended up with B grades in Irish with a bit of work (convinced we wouldn't get higher than Cs/Ds)! In my case I got a B1 in Irish and a B2 in English! Dropping down would have been a big mistake! :p Just try your best throughout the year! Put lots of effort into your oral and work away consistently at exam papers and you'll do great!

Omg that video! I'm dying. Our double maths is separated (one in the morning, one in the afternoon), which makes it a lot more bearable.

I'm already sick of all the homework. And our school brought in a million ridiculous new rules. So glad I'm out of there next year.

Sameeeeee!! Already have a s**t ton of work to do but I guess its good to get back into the swing of things early on.

And the bazillion ridiculous new rules applies to our school as well. I feel like our year is getting special attention since we're the oldest and leading the school, 'role models' blah blah blah :P. Appearance and uniform is getting super strict!! People are getting called out by teachers in public for having a fade haircut while there's kids in other years with ponytails and man buns. Grey socks is apparently a no no anymore which is what ive been wearing for the past 5 years. Strictly black according to my principal.

I honestly can't wait till I'm done with all this.

Is it even possible to feel homesick for summer?! That's how I feel.

Delighted I'm not back until the 14th apart from one day this Friday :P Another fortnight of Summer <3

I'm finding sixth year to be a pain in the hole already and I'm barely a week in. It's a bit surreal to walk around the school as one of the oldest students :/

    Energy levels fine in school.
Look and feel like death in the evening.
Dark circles already forming under eyes.
Ability to concentrate for more than 15 minutes is shot.
Teachers are down on us like a ton of bricks.
    Double English tomorrow morning.
    Harambe dead.
    Gene Wilder passed away.

Just put salt into my tea instead of sugar.

I did not expect actual classes first day. Biology, maths and history tests scheduled almost every week until the Christmas exams.

And I still haven't anything to do after secondary school....

I feel about 80 years old and I've only been back at school for three days! Sleep seems like a distant luxury.

Same. I don't really have any definite career in mind so for now I don't have any real goal pointswise to aim for or anything

Christ almighty the first week isn't even over yet and I'm already prepared to sleep for a month. October midterm can't come soon enough! :(

Hardly a week and I'm knackered. Teachers have been ruthless with homework, tests and assignments. Barely finding time to do my own study. Not enough hours in the day. Weekends are going to be very much appreciated.

Better get used to this I reckon. It's only the 1st of September to make matters worse. :(
