    Anyone buying stock from abroad.
Go into it with your eyes wide open. You will get a red card instead of a blue card. Plus there's only certain meat factories that will take imported stock and then you won't get the same price as irish stock.

    imported twice after being depolulated

would do it again in the morning if I had to, though you'd need to bringning large numbers to justify

no problem getting the stock slaughtered

We bought imported fr heifer calves from france.
When we were getting them slaughtered only 1 factory in Carlow would take them. The factory in wexford and Waterford wouldn't take them. This was 10 years ago. Glad to hear that it's changed.

Imported in calf heifers almost twenty years ago now. I sold them them as culls when their time came to dealers by hand. Felt I got as much for them as I would have got for Irish stock.

Glad to hear that. The point I was making was not every factory will take imported stock. Maybe it's changed now but I read a while ago about someone in meath who bought a belted Galloway bull from the north and her normal meat factory who she goes to wouldn't take him and she had to go somewhere else. Look as I say this was 10 years ago actually could have been more but maybe it was just a different factory but there was definitely a difference of about 200 between our own stock and these at the same weight/ grade.
I'm not trying to discourage anyone from importing stock i'm just saying what happened to me. These were great French stock and they're bloodines will always hopefully be in the herd.

what sort of Friesian bloodline did u get out of france, think most of ours were holland based current bulls running with herd are cpa and jrb

i know of lad who finishes animals buys from dealers and he finds it hard to get rid of imported animals, if he sends large batch they will take but always slaughters in boarder regions with imported animals, he told me he factors that in when buying

    We use freeze brands.
The cows without brands were bought in lately. Freeze branding man is going doing them in a fortnight.

I should have said Holstein. Have no idea what they were by. We bought them from a dealer who exported sheep out to france and bought a load of heifer calves and filled the lorry for the return journey. At the time we put every thing in calf to Hereford and would buy heifer calf replacements. But they were good stock that went back in calf and gave a lot of milk. One of them was here for 14 lactations.

Bull I have running with herd for this year is LHZ x laurel. Young bull is PSZ x TIH.
