Good bosses keep good staff as well. Our relief milker gave my boss a bottle of wine, chocolates and a Christmas card saying 'Thank you for all your kindness and giving me a job. I really enjoy working here'.

Shock is its his first agriculture job and he's only been here two months. Today me and him scraped 15 minutes off the fastest afternoon milking done this year, no shortcuts or cows in the collecting yard early.

Lad that does a few milkings for me got knee surgery done last week , so I am doing all the milkings, getting a bit fed up at the minute getting up early every morning. Is anyone milking autmn calvers once a day as a 1 off or would it cause problems?

Milking times all over the shop this week, from 7.30 am start to get it outa the way to 9.30am hungover ha, if I had to go to 10am it wouldn't bother me but my dad would do some serious moaning haha. Evening milking usually done by 6pm, only started at 6pm tonight as I was out but that's the exception. It's as close to OAD as I'll go.

If it s the same as mine take off the two pipes halve one and put the two shorter ones back on , much tidier set up then

Howdy! There's a poster in the Safety and Off Season who is looking for a bit of advice and opinions with some dairy matters. Any input over there would be much appreciated.

Cows down to 27 liters as the quality is down on the grass now. Thinking on bringing them in at night next week or maybe bring them in full time...

Swings and roundabouts. If weather improved a bit and we got a couple of fine days I'd be thinking about turning ours out. More grass than we've ever had this time of the year. I'll be erring on the side of earlier closing from now on.

Ah, I'm leaving a good few liters behind me Free. Plenty grass but the good is gone now. No clover growing now as its too cold.

I was only bouncing the ball back to you dawg. It would be hard enough to make the grass budget stretch over ninety days. If they do go out I'd only be allowing around five kg dmi from grass. It wouldn't be chasing extra output that's a certainty. Big health benefits though. Much less pressure on housing. On the fine days they'd stay out until evening milking and get a lot of their down time out of the way in comfort then spend most of the night eating.

I'll be doing essentially that from next week. Protein has fallen to the floor and production is way back as they should be kicking on by now.
