Thanks folks will do it now

Well I wish I'd heard about this before I bought a €375 Xperia Z2 in Argos. :/ My Gen 1 Moto G is past its prime and the earspeaker broke, I guess I rushed too much to buy a new phone.....the €200 isn't worth the better specs and it sounds easy to sim unlock.

No real point to this post, I'm just sad now.

The screen on my ultra 6 is bolloxd, weird vertical white lines all over it. Dropped it up to Vodafone just now so they can send it off under warranty. Won't have it back now for 5 to 10 working days. Balls.

Yeah your phone effectively sees tesco as roaming on 3irl so you will need national data roaming enabled.

Not sure if I am on the ight planet or not but this seems to be going over my head at the moment.
I enabled this and went out away from my wifi and got the orange bar saying something like Cant find network or something
but anyway, Still had no internet once away from wifi.

Is this what I was to do?

Hi folks quick question. I got this phone unlocked all going fine there. Problem is it won't let me use normal style texts. The phone says it's for Vodafone users only and it's making me use the hangout app to text which is a pain. Any cure or help with this please.

I am on the same plan and I am finding no connection most placers I go on internet.
Just curious. Do I need to enable data roaming?
Never had to touch anything before on other phones.

If you're with tesco, you will have to change the access points settings. If they're wrong, no internet on 3g.
    http://www.tescomobile.ie/priceplans/international/phone-settings.aspx

And you will need the data roaming as well. Hope this helps.

An XDA user has managed to get logcat and a cm12 partially booting, massive step forward for this device.

I have an Iphone 4S that will be 4 years old in March. Battery is buggered on it. How would this phone compare to it?

Much better imo. The 4s is ancient at this stage. Things have moved on a lot in the last 4 years. Best thing you can do is go into a store and try one out. One thing I would say is don't be put off by the size. You get used to it very quickly.

Is this phone android though? Would it be a big change?

Would my photos and data move over with my sim?

No, your sim doesn't hold either of these. Your photos are currently being backed up to icloud I presume. You will need to transfer these over to googles cloud photo storage called Google Photos. Should be easy enough to download them to your PC and upload them again. A quick google will get you a guide I'm sure. What data exactly are you hoping to bring?

Android actually have a switching guide for iOS users.

Apparently its capable but doesn't work out of the box despite being written on the box that it does have it. I don't actually use it myself but I seen that mentioned on another forum.

Worked for me out of the box. I use the pre-installed file manager app and I haven't had an issue.

Oh right, I'll delete the above post to avoid confusion so.

Any way to get rid of the roaming message that constantly pops up for anyone on a VMNO? I'm with Tesco mobile and the message is very annoying , I know that the use o2/3's network so you are roaming but I didn't get a constant message about it on my last phone?

Alright dudes, I've joined the club. Thanks for the help, links and recommendations!

I upgraded from Motorola Moto G 4G, the first gen. Here are my findings:

    * Going from 4.5" to 5.5" is a big step. This phone is huge! You can't use it with one hand, unless you want to be doing a constant hand yoga. I repeat, the screen is HUGE! It is whiter and brighter, much brighter. I used to set brightness on Moto G to about 50%, on VSU6, I set it to about 15-20%. Great thing about the big screen (and I assume 1080p) is that you don't need to zoom in on most pages and documents, super convenient.

    * Battery life (I measure in screen on time) is better than Moto G, about 5 hours and 15 minutes to 10%. Whereas I managed around 4 hours and 30-45 minutes on Moto G to 10%, and that is with light use.

    * The speaker is kinda weak. Moto G's is clearer and louder.

    * I really like the design, I think it's beautiful. I like simplistic designs and it's also cool that there are no logos or anything on the front. I thought I would not like the silver trim around it, but I do, reminds me of iPhone 3GS.

    * The phone is fast, noticeably faster than Snapdragon 400 running Moto G. 2GB is sooo good! It was super annoying to run 1GB on Moto G. Open a few pages in Chrome and that's it... everything gets kicked out of RAM. From now on, I want more RAM father!

    * But here is the thing. While the phone is fast, the UI stutters. There is a lot of stuttering. It could be that a big screen makes everything more noticeable, but I don't remember UI in Moto G stuttering like this. You scroll and it stutters, menu opening stutters. I don't know why this is, but if this was fixed, it would be deadly!

    * Camera. I am very impressed! I don't know about the third gen Moto G's camera, but the first gen does not come close. In daylight VSU6's camera rivals Nokia 808 PureView, the king of cameraphones. The camera is right up there with current flagships, at least in daylight.

    808 PV - https://i.imgur.com/ZVekXYy.jpg
    VSU6 - https://i.imgur.com/Z7GM2Q3.jpg

    * Finally, I changed the DPI on my phone to match Moto G's size exactly. So icons, menus, navigation controls, everything is the same size as Moto G... except on a 5.5" screen. Which means that there is a ton of real estate! FYI, the default DPI is 480. I changed it to 390. I hated how big everything looked with the default DPI; what's the point of having a big screen, if you don't get to see more information on it at once?

5 hours of battery? What are you doing with it? I easily get a day and half.

Probably means 5 hours of screen on time out of let's say 13hours run time . The rest is just standby so dosnt really count.

And how do I change my dpi
Cuz I much prefer what you have going on there in your screen shots

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,552 ✭✭✭CyberGhost

    What is dpi?

Dots Per Inch. Basically how big or small things are on the screen.

To change it, have a look at this video...

    https://youtu.be/AvwZxDHGGQI

Also, download and install Android ADB driver and install it. Otherwise you'll get "error: device not found" error

I just put on a 0.33mm tempered glass protector on mine. It feels a little different than touching the screen.

Did you get it off eBay? I'm waiting for one I found on eBay.

I don't like how naked screens feel (too slippery), prefer screen protector feeling. So I wonder how that tempered glass is going to work out.

Yes, I got it from eBay. It came from Spain and I got it very quick, less than a week.

I had the same UI stutter for the 1st few days and then everything went smooth. After a week of using the stock launcher I changed to nova and that feels even snappier.
I upgraded from a 1st gen moto g and so happy I did, major upgrade in nearly every way.
