Im thinking that the factory would go maybe 1100 and maybe a balance of 200 to 260 by dept. Anything above that i wont be disputing....
Just heard that neighbour had 4 more cows go down after blood tests.... hes only 5 cows left. Farmer accross road got phone call this morning telling him hes been restricted until a herd test is carried out.... its full lock down here 🙊🙈🙉

The fact shes only just gone incalf may bring it down from that. Hard to know.
Jesus thats hard on your neighbour, big farm is it?
When are the blood tests taken?

rd 10 your cow will be classifed as empty as she will not show incalf at the pm in the factory as she is only served, how long has she calved and the valuer will have this on the sheet.

You've mixed me up with nealger there. His cow is only just served. Mine is 3 months incalf.

Maybe someone can clear this one up for me. A Bullock I sold in march to a relation has gone inconclusive. He's getting him killed tomorrow if lesions show up am I locked up then too or what's the story? Really don't need this.

I doubt you'll be locked up but I expect you will have a herd test in the near future as the animal originated from your herd.

Annual one is due early decrmber. I've 25 cattle to go in next couple of weeks, will be screwed if I couldn't sell them. Will have no place for them and could do with the cash by then

I'd be getting them off to the mart/factory as soon as possible if I were you. You are likely to get called for a test soon.

If lesions don't show up they'll still culture glands to test for it but those results could take 6 to 8 weeks. There is a good possibility he will be grand as well. I doubt you'd be restricted but may have to do a herd test possibly if he goes down but I don't think so if you are not bounding him but could be wrong on that.

My thoughts now exactly. All around 400kg so will be mart job. I had hoped to wait until later as thought demand would be greater closer to housing.

If its what you want, land them into a mart this week.
The alt really is to wait until after your herd test.
Since you want to sell before winter anyway, I think you can work that one out.
    Best of luck.

How soon after did you have the test? Could you sell away in lead up to the test?

Lesions will only show up in very advanced cases. Is your relation locked up?

No he buys about 60 bullocks every spring and finishes them of grass. This bullock would be around 29 months old last clear test on our farm dec 15

Sold in Jan, tested in April.
    Probably notified in March.
Think was locked from being notified to clear test.
Cow was blooded for sale too

Get somebody to slaughter them not shoot at them, clean them completely and don't worry about poor bambi, the best deer is one that has had a lead injection.

My OH seen 5 deer in it the other night driving out the avenue.......b******s!! Will investigate further....... it looks like from the road that they have been lying in it over the last few days/nights

Seen between 11 and 15 deer tonight in my wild bird cover... they are cheeky.... they just stuck their heads up and stared at me..... could do with setting dog after them or getting someone to let a shot off!!😈

Cow got taken away to factory yesterday. Forgot to ask but does anyone have an idea how soon they'll know whether lesions have shown up or not?
Am i right in thinking if lesions dont show up, lab results still won't be known for another 6-8weeks?

Was it a reactor taken away? Your vet will be told I think, ours tend to know anyway unless he finds out himself. If it was a reactor there will be no need to have labs done I think. Makes no odds to you in terms of being restricted anyway. If it was anot inconclusive it would alright and the labs would take that length

    Yes.

I think if you ring the DVO about a week after slaughter they'll tell you anything you need to know about the PM, it takes a few working days to get the report from the factory. Try talk to the dept vet in charge of your case, they are helpful.
If there was no visible lesions the culture could as Mooo says take 6-8 weeks. Whether there was lesions or not, really makes no difference to you.

Don't forget your 60 days to the next test ticks off from today, you can organize it with your vet in about 30 days. Have you applied for the hardship grant?

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

And iirc, the next test will be a Dept test?

Possibly, or the following test. It might depend on how busy they are. But they'll pay if RD10's vet does it.

I thought your vet did the test and you pay for one clear test per year unless you request additional private tests.
Do department vets do retests after reactors. About 10 years since we were down but our vet did all the testing.

You pay for one test during the year, same as annual test. Anything else they are making you test so they pay

Doesn't have to be dept vet. Sometimes they may do one herd in an area

Every herd in the outbreak here was Dept tested at least once, either the first test or second after the reactors had gone and some contiguous herds were Dept tested too.

And it looks like I avoided a herd test charge this year, 2 Dept tests clear and next herd test due in January:)

Could be wrong but have to do it within 24 hours. Not sure if your vet has to see her. Its moving her is considered the problem. Animal in pain, suffering etc.
