Dunne now 4 under (thru 6) and playing great stuff. He drove the green on the par 4 6th hole in one and ultimately 2 putted for another birdie. Par 5 to come next. Even if he wins here, he still won't qualify for the Masters as this event is played opposite to the WGC event and cannot reach the top 50 in the world as his world ranking is too low, but will receive a 2 year exemption for the remainder of this year and for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 season's. He will also receive 300 Fed Ex Cup points too in relation to the FedEx Cup. There is also Ryder Cup points to add into the equation too. Keep it lit!!

Paul Dunne finished in a tied for fifth alongside Waterford's Seamus Power in the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship on the PGA Tour. That top 10 finish guaranteed the Greystones man an exemption into this week's Shell Houston Open, the last event before the Masters. A win for Dunne or anyone else that hasn't qualified for the opening major of the season will get them in to Augusta National.

Another strong finish for Dunne this week in Texas could put him in contention for gaining a PGA Tour card next season. At the moment he currently stands on 73 points in the Fed Ex Cup non-members list. But if he could achieve another top 5 finish in Houston, Dunne could well be in a position later on in the year to be entitled to a special exempt status for the rest of the season, meaning that he can receive unlimited exemptions for the remainder of the season. Remember the 150th player in the points list received 269 Fed Ex Cup points last year so that is the magic number for Dunne if he is to obtain that special exempt status on the PGA Tour.

Brilliant stuff from Paul Dunne so far in the weather delayed Houston Open. The Greystones man is currently 6 under through 14 holes. He's putting really well and his iron play has been really solid in round one. As I said in a previous post, a top 5 or 10 finish would put him in a great position to secure unlimited exemptions for the remainder of the season on the PGA Tour and possibly secure a PGA Tour card for next season. Great stuff so far and lets hope that he can keep up the great play.

He's not getting any love from the American coverage. Doing very well and in a battle royal with 10 or so players for the lead.
-11 which is currently 2 back from the lead.

Shot himself out of the tournament now, water twice on 8 after driving in the fairway. 2 really silly mistakes.

Another birdie to get it back to -1 for the day and T8. Grinding it out after a costly mistake.

Holed bunker shot on 16, t9 now, t10 gets him into RBC Heritage week after masters. 2 pars should do it

He's done well to recover to be under par today.
That double water could have really killed him
Impressive to see him regroup and battle

Dunne is listed as a reserve for the Heritage this week.

Does his top 10 from 2 weeks ago not get him the start? Or is he in Spain, can’t find a confirmed entry list for that.

He's in Spain according to today's Irish Times. Gavin Moynihan only other Irish.

The reason why Dunne's top 10 finish at Houston did not get him in to the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head this week is because this tournament is an invitational event meaning top 10 finishes do not get carried over for events like this one. Next week's event the Valero Texas Open is where Dunne can play, via his great top 10 finish at the Houston Open 2 weeks ago. However this event clashes with the Trophee Hassan II in Morocco where the pride of Greystones was beaten in a play-off for the title by Eduardo Molinari 12 months ago. So I guess he will play in Morocco instead of San Antonio as he seems to enjoy playing in that course where he was oh so close to winning there last year.

Will depend what his plans are going forward. Would love to see him play in Europe for another while and pick up another couple of wins but having gone through the American college system and watching him play the PGA Tour would suit him.

Personally I’d be Texas bound trying to win big $$$ instead of playing in some lads back garden with no fans.
