I personally never did well selling direct to factories. Too small an operator.

Good prices muckit. Were they fully finished or just off grass?

I was talking to a lad about this the other day . He would send a small few good cattle to the factory in the last few years but he would give them a spin to the mart aswell before he would give them the last few weeks finishing incase it would save him buying meal . He has stopped selling anything in the mart this year because the commission and carriage to the mart isn't stacking up against no commission and the factory paying his agent the haulage plus the BB 12 cent in the factory that he is losing in the mart .
For the purpose of research would you send half to the mart and half to the factory next time you have a few to go and post up the 2 stubs here !

Or any other boards member feel free to post up your heifer factory weights and prices and we could compare ?

Better still if they are prices paid by kepak athleague or liffey meats ballinasloe.

That's what I was thinking. I know l personally wouldn't get those prices in factory so l don't begrudge any few euro the next lad can make on them over these prices.

Thanks cloughcasey for your reply. Yes my own thinking is that they go north or else there's a factory specialising in heifers that has their own man out buying them. They are travelling anyway. Ballinasloe just off M6 motorway. Couldn't be got in factories around here, sorry let me rephrase, l wouldn't get that money anyway .

Oh not being smart, but all ages and weights. All times of year. I buy in the autumn and have bought April/May. Any time l think l see a bit of value... and when l've money to buy them!

had 9 heifers in Castleisland yesterday,
They didn't get too much meal over their time with me so happy enough
    all feb to Jul 14
bar 1 simm that was nov 14, was disappointed with her but she was a bit on the butty side

overall good enough trade there, some of the prize winners sold really well.
anything that was 2013 wasn't a great trade though.

before I left a red lim Nov 14 weanling heifer came in 276 kgs, she only made 545, thought I got her at a good price, with a bit of feeding she should come on fine

weanling sounds cheap alright, you seem to have the same prob as me, gop to the mart with intentions of selling and coming home with purchases ha, brought 22 weanlings to the mart recently, didnt sell 6 and also bought 4 cull cows and a cow and calf ha
