Does an indie world always come before an actual direct or did I just make that up in the hope of an actual direct?
Well there'd always be at LEAST one indie showcase in between regular Directs. The next regular Direct is gonna have to absolutely hit it out of the park though. I wonder if they've been working their áss off to get BoTW2 out for holiday season and that's the reason for delay (though personally i'd be surprised if BoTW2 came out this soon).

Talk is August will have a Direct at the end of it sometime, 28th is rumoured. Then there's the Mario announcements too, those may not come in a Direct.

For a split second, I thought Evergate was Ori 2, but, no, it wasn't. :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

Thought that Indie was showing was great. Raji, Evergate and Manifold Garden. Raji in particular looked really great. Good to see Hades on switch too. Double Goose co-op would be quite something I'm sure too :P

Nothing there really grabbed me, but Raji did look interesting. It's out today, isn't it? I'll wait for some reviews, but the aesthetic is impressive.

I like the look of Card Shark but it ain't out until 2021. Not a lot else caught my eye tbh.
I'm surprised they didn't show the Braid port next year or HK: Silksong(we did get Evergate that looked a bit like Hollow Knight though). Hades never did anything for me since I seen it was early access 18 months ago.

    +1 on Card Shark

Hypnospace Outlaw looked ... interesting, there's meant to be a demo but can't see it on the UK eShop

  • Registered Users Posts: 352 ✭✭plibige

Not a lot in it for me but definitely a solid presentation. I'll probably pick up Raji, maybe one or two others depending on price

Good indie showcase that. Raji, Card Shark, A Short Hike and manifold garden looked really good. Hades is a great game from a top tier indie studio in Supergiant Games.

Subnautica is a great survival game too. I thought Takeshi and Hiroshi was the most intriguing of the lot.

A Short Hike is a wonderful little game, I got it on Itch a while back and would gladly buy again on the Switch which is rare for me.

Subnautica is also a cracking game though I wonder will the comparative hardware limitations on the Switch hamper it a bit.

    Is short hike long?

    Is short hike long?

5 or 6 hours, maybe, but it's the sort of thing where I dip back into it occasionally just because it's nice to wander about in it.

Edit: How long to beat reckons more like a couple of hours, but it depends if you're rushing to get through it or just taking your time. In my head this is the same sort of game as Feather - part of the intent is to relax and not rush everywhere constantly, and just enjoy exploring.

Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase just released. Not much in it though to be honest.

    That was pretty bad.... :(

There must be some truth of new Nintendo hardware due soon as they have absolutely nothing to show. Even the rumours are just more re-releases which Nintendo must have a patent on by now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

A bit like the last one, it smacks of some sort of contractual obligations marketing wise. No 'one last game' like SMT from last one either. Fairly tepid.

Again thought there's some pretty great stuff announced.

A Final Fantasy Legends/Saga Trilogy collection? I'm totally on board. Three of the best handheld RPGs of all time. Was playing the first on the OG gameboy recently and it holds up. Day one for me.

Two new Taiko no Tatsujin games? So two games in what is one of the great rhythm actions series.

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, not a big announcement but the first game was brilliant.

Kingdom Hearts Rhythm game. Kingdom Hearts is god damn awful but the music is excellent and square make great rhythm action games. If it's half as good as theatrhythm was are in for a great game.

And for the Yanks, Captain Tsubasa getting released worldwide. The game looks like a blast and the only soccer game I've been interested in in years.

Again like the last nintendo direct they might not be big games but there's loads of really great games there. Don't get the backlash

Different games appeal to different people. Nothing there was a "must buy" for me (although I will add Fuser to my wishlist).

$19.99 for that saga collection is fantastic value pity it's well into December before we'll see it

  • Registered Users Posts: 796 ✭✭✭Eduard Khil

Pity no Persona 4 for switch that'd be nice

crying out for an actual decent new game not some reshash shyte of game-boy final fantasy spin-off ffs that wasn't even well received at the time

Nintendo are taking the piss at this stage

It's $20 so probably €20/25 they're very good final fantasy related games at a very good price I'm betting any real AAA Nintendo games announcements are being held off until Sony and Microsoft show their hands

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 52 ✭✭itsa_me_mario

Thinking we'll get the 3D Mario Collection for Xmas.
    Hope so! :)

Looks like a new Switch is being announced for next year ... so I'd expect all the really good stuff to be released with that.
    And definitely BOTW2.

Nintendo are in no rush. Switch will continue to sell truck loads up well past Xmas.
Nintendo don't actually have to compete with Sony/Microsoft. Different market.

The fact that they have done two "partner showcases" in quick succession says to me something first party is coming. And it is big enough that these third party games would not stand out in a presentation next to the first party stuff.

I'd love to think the 35th anniversary stuff is real, but i'd settle for Skyward Sword at this stage, being so starved of first party games

The drumming adventure gamepack looks great, hopefully it'll see a physical release, to go with my physical copy of the original Switch game

I'm not sure if you read those wiki links, but they all confirm the three games are some of the best RPGs on the GB and incredibly influential to those RPGs that followed.
More importantly, still worth playing if you like 8/16 bit style role playing games.
