People are still having trouble with the Dreamcast being considered retro, and that was released in 1999!!

I find it difficult to see any console using 3D as being retro (SNES doesn't count as the 3D there was at the end of it's life-cycle).

It's all about perspective. If a person can remember the hype surrounding a consoles release, then it's not that old (to that person).

    Nope.
Mega CD is retro, so is the 3DO and Amiga CD32, Playstation is retro too, as is the Sega Saturn, I have them all so trust me!
Plus, the DS and 3DS are all cart based, and they aren't retro as yet.

Retro is basically any console that has been discontinued and no now games or add ons are been made or released for it.

Nintendo NX To Be 3-4 Times Stronger Than Wii U; Multiple Sources Confirm NVIDIA Pascal Tegra, No 4K Upscaling, HDR – Rumor

September has come and gone, and there still hasn’t been any Nintendo NX reveal. The secrecy surrounding the new console from Nintendo is making fans more and more curious about it, and we may have managed to learn some new details thanks to some of these curious fans asking one informed insider multiple questions.

Not too long ago, Direct Feed Games shared a new video where he answered questions that have been posed on Twitter regarding the Nintendo NX. While he obviously couldn’t answer several questions, some of these answers did reveal some interesting new details. For starters, Direct Feed Gaming revealed that the Nintendo NX will be 3,4 times more powerful than the Wii U in terms of Gigaflops, also adding that developers won’t have to deal with any technical hurdle if they want to port PS4 and Xbox One games to the NX, as the console will support Unreal Engine 4 and other modern game engines. Multiple sources have also confirmed to him that the NX will be powered by an NVIDIA Pascal Tegra, which doesn’t tell us much other than the fact that NVIDIA is going to be involved. Direct Feed Gaming sounds pretty confident in saying this, so it will be interesting to see if the company is indeed involved in the NX as rumors have been saying these past few months.

Direct Feed Gaming has also been asked about possible 4K upscaling and HDR support in the vein of the Xbox One S. According to the insider, it could be technically possible, but he doesn’t believe Nintendo will be going for it. Direct Feed Gaming also doesn’t believe any of the features that have been recently patented by Nintendo will be making it into the NX, as the only “hook” of the console will be its hybrid nature.

As it often is with rumors, we must take everything that’s been revealed in the video with a grain of salt until an official confirmation comes in. Still, Direct Feed Gaming revealed the Nintendo NX hybrid nature even before Eurogamer did, so he definitely has access to inside information.

The Nintendo NX will launch in all regions during March 2017.

Imagine if they simply didn't reveal it. It would just appear on the shelves one day in March. Would you buy it without knowing anything?

Edit: reading that back reminds me of the intro to the Eminem song Lose Yourself. Someone needs to drop some NX lyrics, yo.

If we don't get an announcement before the investors meeting/at the meeting, or they don't talk about it at the meeting beyond 'we will discuss NX at a future date' sort of thing, I will be expecting a delay.

I wonder will they delay announcing the NX until after the the nes min releases, so as not to detract from its sales by having a new console coming out a few months later.

NX will be more powerful than Wii U

RUMOR - BOOGIE2988 GETS INSIDER INFO ON NX, EXPANDS UPON CONSOLE/PORTABLE DETAILS

Boogie2988 is a very well known YouTube personality from his Francis character, but in the video above he's speaking as himself. When a question about the NX is presented to Boogie, he offers up the following info. You can listen for yourself at the 35 minute mark.

    - info on the NX comes from two people that have interacted with system, with one specifically from Ubisoft
    - programming for the NX is 'very nice' and 'a dream'
    - Ubisoft contact says the NX is a great concept
    - Assassin's Creed is used by Boogie as an example of a gameplay concept, but not confirmed as coming to NX
    - in the example, you have a unit attached to your TV where you play the Assassin's Creed console game
    - then you can detach the unit and play the Assassin's Creed mobile game on the go
    - another person that has used with the NX says it's as innovative as they had hoped for and wished they came up wished they came up with the idea

Kinda worried that you are still going to have two distinct games there, Assassins Creed full fat on the NX when docked and Assassins Creed Lite (just 1 cal) when you play on the go.
It would solve the questions about battery life, as in the console wouldn't be using as much power when on the go, but it does, instead, sound like a WiiU with a 3DS in place of the Gamepad, the same concept as playing the full Super Smash Bros on the setup when linked and Super Smash on the 3DS when out and about, but the specific game for the handheld, which is exactly what we already have.

Yeah but imagine every WiiU game playable on the 3ds, that would be frickin awesome!

I would actually prefer it the other way around. The 3DS is a monster of a console.

My biggest worry with the NX is the inevitable death of the dedicated handheld. Time will tell though.

Sorry I'm late, I got distracted with work, the kids, life.... but here we go :

    Yo!
    His palms are sweaty,
Knees weak, his bodies not ready!
There's vomit on his chemise already - chewed up baguette! he's
feeling anxious 'bout meeting Gamestop Execs
He gotta tell 'em the RRP o' the Nintendo NX
He tries to open his mouth but his lips won't move
His face is frozen lookin' like a rapist tryin' ta be schmoove
    He's chokin' now
    He just can't ex-plain how
It's supposed to launch in March, but it's October now
    Snap back to reality
Oh! It's just the Nes Mini
We can keep all this **** to ourselves until February
Like the GPU coprocessor and HD dock
And detachable magnetic joypads shaped like ears of Spock
When Microsoft see the reveal they will both fear and admire us
Well Gates can suck my dick from Redmond 'cause my penis is wireless
See being president is hard and it's only gettin' harder
    Tryin' to teeter-totter
between delivering performance but with a gimicky controller
But that's basically all we've got
    So feet fail me not
We've only 812 billion yen left
    This is my 38th-last shot!

A Nintendo NX Delay Would Help It Dominate In 2017

According to Nintendo’s current, alleged timetable, we should be hearing an announcement about the Nintendo NX any day now, and the console itself will come out next March. The March release is the only official info Nintendo has given out about the NX to date, but increasingly, their plan to debut the console now and release it then seems increasingly unlikely.

There are three main issues with Nintendo’s plan here:
    1. Announcing a console now during an incredibly busy holiday release window when that console does not come out for the holiday is a bad idea.
    2. Announcing a console when there’s now less than six months until release is not that much time to promote the product.
    3. Releasing a new console in March is a pretty odd time window by itself.

I cannot speculate about Nintendo’s motives as to why they’re remaining silent about the NX ten months into 2016 and this close to launch, but all indications point to a possible delay, and honestly, I think that’s the best course of action for a few reasons.

My new theory? Nintendo should wait to announce the NX until January, and then debut the system in late June.

This solves at least few of the above problems in multiple ways. Nintendo should announce now that a “Nintendo NX Premiere Event” will be on a specific date in January (like, the 2nd, ideally) so that fans can stop sitting around and praying that a Direct magically pops into existence.

Why January? Again, it’s to get around problem number one. There are at least a half dozen major AAA game releases coming out this fall, and two new pieces of Sony hardware, the PS4 Pro and PSVR. Not that people wouldn’t pay attention to Nintendo’s NX announcement if it did happen, but it would get choked by all this other news, and besides that, the console isn’t even going to be out for purchase this holiday. Additionally, Nintendo should have their own “moment” this holiday with the (assuredly profitable) release of Super Mario Run on iOS this December.

But January? Nothing will be happening in January, and the NX would be the only thing anyone is talking about. Nintendo can launch 2017 as a hard reset for their hardware ambitions, debuting the (hopefully promising) NX right as the year starts. While I’d love for this to be a live stage show complete with demos, it will probably be a Direct, and this leads me to my next point.

This would also have to come with a delay, obviously. You can’t debut a console in January and have it come out in March. So, I would suggest a late June release, one that comes directly after E3 itself.

Previously, when we’ve talked about the short release spans of the PS4 and Xbox One, both had big E3 events between their debut and the launch of the console. But here, after six months of build-up, Nintendo could show up at E3 with a huge number of games for the NX, and not only “win” the show, as they have in the past year or two, but also have the benefit of putting the NX on sale almost immediately after E3 was over. It would be the ultimate hype lead-in for the product, provided what’s shown is actually something to get excited about.

Add in the idea that the NX might launch with some serious heavy-hitters (Zelda, possibly Mario and Pokémon) and you would have the success story of the summer, a time when there’s usually a pretty heavy drought of releases, but a period where people aren’t in school and able to play more video games than ever. This is an argument against a potential, traditional release in Fall 2017 (which would be a huge delay) where the NX would be facing off against yet another collection of big AAA titles and Xbox’s new Scorpio console.

A longer delay to Fall 2017 does not seem like the best idea given the competition the NX would face then and the fact that they really do need to replace the Wii U as soon as they can manage. But this “announce any day now, release in March” idea doesn’t seem like the best course of action either. That’s why I think a plan to announce as soon as the new year hits, and then launch as soon as E3 ends is the best move, but we’ll see what actually happens soon enough, I suppose.

When do new consoles ever release in June though? Like not reiterations of consoles like DSi or lite whatever, brand new consoles. If we have another slow nintendo year in 2017, considering how poor 2016 has been overall I'll be very sad about it.
