Sorry! I posted it elsewhere yesterday and they quickly pointed out that it was fake. Why do people make these fake Tweets and images of the NX?

I still think we're getting some info on NX next week. Nintendo would be mad to let TGS pass by without any news and they have used it many times before for hardware announcements. If it's happening, expect an announcement tomorrow or more likely Tuesday of an NX Direct for Thursday.

    No worries,
Though I have the nails at the ready...

Highly doubtful, Nintendo traditionally avoids the TGS and the one and only time they made a hardware annoucment at it was the Wii controller.

I can't wait for this week coming. I'm convinced we're going to get NX news. We'll get the announcement on Tuesday most likely, with the showing on Thursday. If it doesn't show up this week, then I think Nintendo have a simple gimmick as part of NX that they're afraid that can still be copied by the new hardware from the competition and want to make sure that when they show it, it'll be too late for them to implement on the production line. What else are Nintendo waiting for at this point?

I have a feeling it'll be this week as well. Maybe thats just neogaf hype though.

I don't think it's a good idea for Nintendo to worry about their gimmick being copied.

Sony has enough to concentrate on with the Neo and VR and Microsoft have Scorpio and Hololens. If they were to copy Nintendo, they wouldn't be doing it right away since they would need time for R&D without messing up their other plans.

We all talk about Nintendo like they're smart/logical, these are the people who thought we wanted Metroid Federation Force before like, anything else metroid related. Or who refuse to capitalise on their extraordinary library of back catalogue of games for some reason.

Something else the NX should definitely have is an Ambassador programme for Wii U owners, similar to what they did for 3DS. For so many reasons we deserve it.

Nintendo NX to Have an Optional Subscription Based Model, Hardware is Free, $10 Per Month

Another day and another Nintendo NX rumor has surfaced. The latest leak claims that Nintendo NX will offer a subscription based model to its users.

It is an optional model that will allow gamers to play all Nintendo games for $10 a month. Subscribers will be offered NX hardware for free. Meanwhile, those who prefer paying full price upfront for the console and buy cartridges are free to do that.

The subscription model is not very economical and rates may rise over time. $10 a month adds up to $120 a year and $240 for two years. However, offering free hardware (leasing) to subscribers will surely encourage gamers to sign up for Nintendo’s subscription based service.

The system is similar to smartphone leasing.

It is hard to imagine third parties being on-board with the idea for $10 per month model for all games but since it is Nintendo’s own system, expect all Nintendo games to be part it at least.

The subscription service will probably have small indie developers as third party in the beginning. If the system turns out to be a success, major publishers and developers may come on-board.

That sounds like bollocks. It might also be so bollocks it ends up being true.

Doesn't seem out of the realms of possibility...

Go back to the Famicom days and they had the disc system in Japan where you could bring a blank disc to the shop, wipe it, and get a new game put onto it for about the price of a rental, could this be a kind of newer version of that, except it's the system that's leased to the customer?

Interesting if true but realistically it probably would only end up in Japan or NA...

Can't see that being true. Sure you'd have to sign up to a 4 year contract or something so they would be sure of recouping the $400 price tag on that 'free' hardware you'd be getting. Sounds like garbage to me.

Good thing we're not in the 80s any more :P

It might be an interesting way of ensuring that you're moving the NX product out the front of the shop as fast as you can shovel them in the back, so you don't end up with another Wii U in terms of player base. But it just doesn't sound practical or scalable. Japan only, maybe or a limited global run - this could be their ambassador program, X consoles per territory to get a solid install base so you have a nice round number at the end of the first month of release. Keep shareholders and 3rd party devs sweet. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me but I'm still struggling with the difference between Komasan and Komajiro so what do I know?

I agree with Spiderman, this is just bananas enough to be exactly what they're planning to do.

Isn't that what sega did with the dreamcast and their online subscription service?

Wow, do you just blurt out everyone's secret identity?

This idea would be too hard to use. A subscription service would work if it was streaming games like PS Now or, as this model is more similar to, OnLive. Even then, didn't you have to pay for OnLive boxes?

It's kind of believable (as a possible option for owning an NX) till the suggested price point, $10 a month? No way that will work!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,268 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

The scheme works for mobile phones so why not gaming? I too think it'll be trialled in Japan first to test it out(that's if it's real of course).

I wonder if the same people making things up about the NX are the same group who make things up about Hillary....

Being Nintendo, there's a good chance he's reading these leaks and wondering if they're true.

Someone trolling the possibility of the NX reveal. Maybe. But also not.

Its been 9 ****ing months, and Nintendo have given us literally nothing. No wonder we're going mad.

Maybe it's just an announcement of a direct? Seems like a small venue to announce a new console! Ot something else entirely.

That event is just the Gamestop progress etc conference, all the Gamestop managers etc attend it seems. Wouldn't expect anything but vague generic mentions of Nintendo's console, if any at all.
