That could be the key point there, by and large everything they do is polished and more importantly fun.

Andrew ya that PS4 reveal is making my way more relaxed now, the 2 presenters were a train wreck, it was like a low budget powerpoint deck and 4K HDR reveals over low quality streams just seems like it was showing same video content we normally see, nothing worth upgrading. Ill be looking fwd to my Scorpio\NX combo next year :)

Scorpio/NX combo for me too. Roll on 2017.

According to WSJ the reveal could now be 'early October' So at this point I'm gonna remain apathetic till it finally happens.

Everything I read on that said 'by early October', so could be any time between now and then.

You can't get any "Early October"er than mid-september! Fingers crossed, toes crossed, mickeys knotted....

I hope it doesn't suffer from HL3 syndrome where the anticipation and therefore expectations rise to an unreasonable amount.

Although as mentioned above, maybe the poor showing from Sony will benefit them.

I don't believe this "early October" prediction. This rumour all stems back to The Wall Street Journal and just one line.

"Analysts said they expect Nintendo to release NX details by early October."

    http://www.wsj.com/articles/nintendo-shares-soar-as-mario-comes-to-smartphones-1473297318

And everyone's jumped on the bandwagon. These "analysts" know sweet F.A. They probably looked at the Apple/Super Mario Run deal and the share price jump and think well that'll keep the shareholders content for another while. Where was this prediction last week? They keep pushing out the reveal date. First it was E3, then it was August, then mid September, now it's early October. I still think it'll be next week(though for some reason I've got September 23rd in my head). It's beyond annoying at this point, just show it already. The longer they wait, the worse it will be for Nintendo.

"They" as in the press and not Nintendo?

There's been so much rumour and speculation I've forgotten - have Nintendo ever said when they will reveal it? I know there hasn't been a specific reveal date but did they even mention which month?

The only concrete details from Nintendo I recall is the release date? End of March or whatever the date is.

Nintendo have never said any sort of time frame for when they will reveal it. Kimishima just said simply before the end of the year.

It was also WSJ that reported the pre TGS date

I remember Michael Pachter being a big deal once, even after saying Red Dead wouldn't appeal to everyone.
If the Playstation meeting showed anything it's Nintendo has to deliver the message correctly, they have to be clear & concise as there hasn't been much clarity in hardware reveals lately.
I keep wondering if the handheld has a touchscreen how will I play games on my TV, why should I buy one after they clearly gave up on the WiiU & do they have any significant 3rd parties on board outside of ones that work on the 3DS.

But we're nearly half way through September. So they have 3 and a half months to reveal, then 2 and a half months to launch. Cutting it pretty fine.

Pre orders start on amazon September 21st for March 25th launch could be fake tho

Could well be fake. If it was real it would mean Nintendo are sticking with the name NX and I don't think they've ever used a codename as the final name on any of their products.

Edit: Here's the image again. I understand that some of you can't see it because you're not members of IGN.

Amazon often put things up earlier before announcement and proper details are announced and then change name and details later so

Remember this Tweet from a few days ago? This also listed the release date as 25th March 2017 along with a price tag of 39,999 Yen.

The codename for the others started with "Project". Project Dolphin, Project Cafe, Project Reality. So NX is possible, though they may want to avoid it becase of XBox.

So... a direct has to be soon?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,194 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

    Aaaaaany minute now. :)

    So,
if true I'm going to need to salt away €350-€450 for the new machine and software....

A 2017 savings plan, a New Years Resolution I can really get behind at last!
Put away €40 a week and, by launch day, I'll have the cash set aside.

I'm going to have to let some of the staff go, perhaps one of the gardeners... the roses will have to prune themselves!

Smack bang mid September has played a big role in Nintendo's past. 2005, Iwata showed the Wii remote for the first time. In 2012, we got the release date of Wii U. Both were at TGS I think. Maybe these rumours are BS. And yes Nintendo aren't supposed to be attending TGS this year, perhaps it's a last minute surprise or they'll reveal it in a Direct just prior with some added bonus at the show. While Nintendo aren't attending, most of their major Japanese third party partners are and it would be a missed opportunity if they have to keep quiet about their NX games through Japan's equivalent of E3. For Nintendo in their home country to completely snub it in terms of NX news, I just can't see it happening, it's a massive marketing opportunity.

So in summary, I think we'll get a Direct just prior to TGS with a surprise appearance from Kimishima showing it off on stage during the event. That would make too much sense though so it may not happen.

The Amazon tweet is fake. Amazon use shorter hyperlinks and also it's a slightly different text colour for the link. Someone on Neogaf also found the original tweet it was shopped from, look at the thumbnail pictures of the people who liked it, all the exact same.

Sorry! I posted it elsewhere yesterday and they quickly pointed out that it was fake. Why do people make these fake Tweets and images of the NX?

I still think we're getting some info on NX next week. Nintendo would be mad to let TGS pass by without any news and they have used it many times before for hardware announcements. If it's happening, expect an announcement tomorrow or more likely Tuesday of an NX Direct for Thursday.

Don't say that. My heart can't take much more disappointment.
