I just preordered in Gamestop. There were only 6 others, so I should be guaranteed a console on launch day.

I was told that trade in value on the Wii U is a miserable €90 (and will drop more before March).

Depending on whether or not there is content transfer, I'll aim to put mine on Adverts next week.

I got great value out of it, to be fair...

Hang on to that bad boy they will go up in value eventually!

Put a pre-order in Gamestop today just in case. Was told it's a minimum €20 deposit.

They said any pre-orders would also get 20% off Switch accessories. I asked about the possible different SKU's and was told that they are only going by one version but if there is different models to ring up and say which one the pre-order will go towards.

I wouldn't give Gamestop any money. I hate them. €20 for a deposit where you've no idea what the retail price will be? You can nearly guarantee they'll charge more than other places. I'm going to wait. I think there'll be several places selling this that don't currently sell Nintendo products. Like Harvey Norman, where I got my launch day Wii U.

Though, given how the NES Classic Mini was handled and several other products you've got to wonder how much stock each shop will have. 2,000,000 units at launch is a very conservative number.

Tossed a coin to decide about pre-ordering in Gamestop or Smyths and am kinda glad it came up Smyths. Pre-ordered my Wii in there and it was an easy experience and a bit cheaper than other places at that time. Rolled up in a car with two other Boards.ie members (Retr0gamer and smokingman I believe) and walked straight out with it. Orderly queue, easy transaction.

I'm idly curious which will end up cheaper. Probably Symths.

How much do Smyths charge do you know to place a deposit? I suppose I could just ring them myself.

Only had to pay a fiver deposit in my local Gamestop. I've since paid off more though. I like that aspect of in store pre-orders, I can pop in and pay it off bit by bit. And,in fairness to Gamestop, they may be swindlers, but I pre-ordered the mini NES there and got it no bother, first day.

20euro. The guy on the games till had it in the system so they must have been ready for pre-orders for a good while.

Going to give them a shout after the reveal to discuss SKU's and add-ins to see where my 20euro will go towards. If the more expensive deal is a Switch, game and a big bag of ****e, I'll go for the cheaper one. Don't have any real need for attachments, screen guards, stylus protectors et al as no child (or messy adult) will be touching my Switch. A travel storage case... maybe.

As I said in the same sentence it's just in case. If it's priced lower elsewhere never any problem getting pre-order deposit back. I'm no fan of Gamestop either, can't remember the last thing I bought there but good to keep bases covered.

Going to go with VGP if the console is not region free, it was well worth going with them for the 3DS.

I didn't think you'd get the deposit back if you cancelled. That's not as bad so.

Looks like Microsoft want to expunge any mention of Scalebound from all their media, all trailers, demos and even mentions of it have been removed from Youtube and other social media. Other previous cancelled games still have a presence on their online media, this may suggest that Microsoft don't have any exclusive right to it and Platinum may shop it around other developers, however it's more than likely done for good. Hopefully this won't be a big blow to Platinum, despite some not high quality titles lately, although I quite liked Mutants in Manhattan, it'd be great to have them on board with the Switch.

From Gamestop? You do get it back, you just cancel the pre order in store.

Preordered in GameStop based on the advice in this thread. I'd say it'll be cheaper in Smyth's but will pay the difference if it minimises hassle.

I don't think there'll be quite the same issue as the mini NES given the price difference and time of year, but you never know!

They need to make Switchmas a thing. If not now, then for their Christmas advertising.
And just realised since it's expected to release on St Patrick's day we're guaranteed the new Zelda and a new Luigi's Mansion. So we get Link and Green Mario. :D

Hmm. Has Zrlda been confirmed for launch? Seems unlikely all thst stuff wiuld be ready for a game that's not to launch for a few months.

That little stand for the screen is going to change my life.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,397 ✭✭✭✭Digital Solitude

€17 for a screen protector? Hope its tempered glass then.

The Zelda stuff looks great though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

It being French language and the prices in euros for that Zelda stuff can only be taken as a good sign that it'll launch with the Switch I guess?

The fighting stick is a bit interesting as well, besides a re-release of Pokken I haven't heard too many fighting game rumours, and even that used a gamepad. Injustice 2 maybe? Marvel v Capcom a possibility too.

Never pre-ordered with Smyths but after you pay an initial deposit, do they allow you to pay off a bit more up to launch date?

I know Gamestop do but I'm thinking that Smyths will likely be better value.

I'll pre-order with Gamestop too just in case but would rather give money to Smyths if I'm honest.

An arcade stick which, to me at least, suggests a Capcom fighter on the way in the first wave of Switch games... Woohoo!
