Must take a drive down there soon, the rugby wins today though. Speaking of 5s, saw this on donedeal today. If I hadn't just bought a car, I'd be very tempted.

There's actually a blue 530i Mayport going for 1950 at the moment down here, it came up like 2 weeks after I bought mine.

Is that not a bit dear for what it is? Automatic too, very slow. manual all the way, few valuable seconds quicker.

It's not at all, that's the go of a good one tbh, and the auto is far from slow, maybe .5 seconds off a manual, plus, kickdown is more fun :D

Also flappy paddles, I'll be doing them over the Summer hopefully.

Kick down... Have you never heard of dropping a cog?

    Bloody auto walkers. :p

About the going price for a very good E39 thesedays. Mad, they're definitely picking up in value now.

Earliest memory of motoring I have would be sitting in a E39 5 series c.97 when they were £40-£50k. My Da bought a A6 instead. Second ever C5 A6 in the country. From memory that was the last time I was in a E39 too

They are 2 seconds slower. Look up official 0-100 km/h figures for manual and auto 2 seconds in difference.

I nver drove a car with flappy paddles but i did on a computer game steering wheel and trust me I missed the gear stick.

Of course, I just find the kickdown a bit more fun :pac:

Okay it is actually 1 second in the difference just looked it up, but my personal favorite is manual, you can't go diffin in a auto.

If you've got enough torque you can. ;)

    I can confirm this.
I had a certain auto twin turbo V6 making a whoooole lad of sideways smoke one night. Off the road, private property of course.

I prefer dropping three and making fire shoot out.

Scares the piss out of anything.

Also never fuelling up at that particular station again - whatever it was ran like the dogs. 50 Litres of Maxol's finest immediately ended the backfiring on the overrun.

It's nice to have a bit of both. Manual Corolla for hooning and an auto Accord for taking it easy with the occasional hoon too of course. It's nice like

Every car I've had has been manual but the next will be auto. It depends on the engine and certain boxes go well with certain engines. I know in my current car which is manual, the auto version (despite being rubbish) is much more common.

Are all the auto 335's non SMG's?

    1.0 CVT Nissan Micra.
    5 door, wine, 2001.

It used to be my grannies car. Haha
I'm October it will be my "daily" and I can insure my Mazda as a classic!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,925 ✭✭✭GvidoR

What year is the MX5? You need a daily to insure another car as a classic, right?

Younger than me I think :(

But ya, thats what you have to do. I honestly plan on keeping my S60 to classic stage. Tis worth feck all as it is and will probably be worth feck all then but I love it. Have very long term and free storage available and everything. Only 10 years left! :pac:

I get these ideas from time to time :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,925 ✭✭✭GvidoR

I was just thinking that the MX5 is around the same age as my Golf, so maybe it could qualify for classic insurance as well (or maybe in 2018) but then again, I guess it's a sensible enough car so I wouldn't be saving much if I need to insure something else.

Well I taught my exhaust hanger had snapped off yesterday, but it was just the rubber bushing. Maybe halfords will have a replacement? I've temp fixed it with a bit of wire, should hopefully hold and stop it banging off the subframe.

No you do not need another car insured to have classic insurance but you can only do a certain amount of miles a year.

That sound odd. How would they track the miles, and what happens if you go over the limit?

It's a lovely day here in kilkenny. I was up getting diesel and it was lovely weather for driving in 15 degree too. I never got a chance to clean my car unfortunately due to having to study. Last exam Monday and Tuesday morning of to spain for 8 days cannot wait :) I'll give the golf a good clean and service when I get back.

When asking any of the classic insurance providers they all told me I need to be 25 and have a separate daily driver too.
My car's 25 years old, the same as I'll be in October. :D
