I remember last week someone mentioning that McCown has a record for the most amount of teams he's been on. Turns out NFL films made a nice little video on his career so far.

Don't know, but I'll never understand either why American broadcasters think that highlights need a f*&King orchestra playing in the background.

Its more than possible but I wouldn't say clearly either we have the luxury of watching it on youtube the refs angles on that with guys blocking the view would be minimal. High School Football is all about missed calls.

Poor last week vs the Saints, but prior to that he was about par for course with what you'd expect, I'd have thought. I'm surprised.

That said, a lot of people touted Peterman as a dark horse during the draft process last year, so maybe Bills have seen enough to think he's their future.

Could also just want to see what they have before they start another draft process. Lot of QBs in the 2018 class, right?

Interesting anyway, considering their in the hunt for a Wild Card spot.

That should help their run defense anyway.

Posted this in the Pats thread but very good speech by Bill

Bill addressing the Navy Midshipmen before one of their games:

The tackling was poor and they should rightly be embarrassed at conceding that many yards on the ground. But to be fair to the them, opening drive aside they were on the field all night. Taylor was 9/19 for 56 yards and a pick.

Taylor was poor, but I had the impression they were waiting on his first stinker to bench him. Other than maybe 8-10 QB's, every quarterback has had a bad game this season.

Tyrod Taylor says he is being benched because he is being held to a higher standard than white QBs. I get what he is saying to some extent the mobile thing does always come up for black QBs but lets be honest he has been poor this season. No higher standard being held just you are playing like sh1te dude.

But comparing yourself to other QBs with other teams is pointless at best because they play for other teams and if those teams choose to play sh1t QBs then that is on them.
Tyrod Taylor has been the center of controversy the last two seasons. In his third year as the Buffalo Bills’ quarterback, he’s had his fair share of highs and lows. The dynamic signal-caller is typically primed for one or two incredible displays of athleticism per game, but overall he’s been more of a game manager than a premier quarterback that can single-handedly carry his team to victory.

The criticism against Taylor is mounting because through five games he’s completed 62.5 percent of his passes for 910 yards (6.7 yards-per-attempt) while throwing for six touchdowns with two interceptions.

Taylor spoke to The Buffalo News and discussed a variety of topics. When asked about his lack of statistical production, the veteran accepted blame but acknowledged that his skin color plays a factor in how he is perceived and compared to other quarterbacks.

“It’s always going to be twice as bad just because of who I am – an African-American quarterback,” Taylor said. “Look across the league, man. We’re held to a certain standard. We almost have to be perfect.

“I wouldn’t say it’s just an African-American quarterback thing. It’s an African-American athlete thing – or just an African-American thing. And that’s not anything I just found out. It’s been that way since I was a kid.”

Taylor discussed the notion that most African-American passers are labeled as “mobile” while noting that white quarterbacks such as Aaron Rodgers and Derek Carr — who are both athletic — get labeled as pocket passers.

“They claim that we’re not that accurate from the pocket. I’m not sure why,” Taylor said. “Even though they’re ‘mobile’ guys, they don’t necessarily take on the same criticism as others. It probably is unfair.”

According to Pro Football Reference, Taylor has the most rushing yards (1,269) among quarterbacks since 2015. Only four of the top 10 quarterbacks in rushing yardage since 2015 are African-American, so Taylor makes a valid point.

“I’m held to a higher standard – and I welcome that,” Taylor said. “Because it’ll make me a better player.”

Haven't seen too much of the Bills this year but he's a very liked QB in Toronto (realistically Buffalo's biggest fanbase despite the two hour drive) and in the past several seasons I thought did pretty well. What has been odd to me is the sheer lack of faith ever placed in him by Buffalo despite this - he only had 436 pass attempts last year and 380 the year before that, each of which were the least attempts of any QB to play as many games as him. Then they released/traded his #1 and #2 WRs this season, a position along with TE that they've really not made much investment at all in since picking Watkins. They did pick up Jordan Matthews but I'm not a particularly big fan of, and Kelvin Benjamin (shame he'll never reach his potential in my opinion, still looks a bit like a rookie between the ears) though Benjamin only played the one game vs NO so far.

Who knows, maybe there's off the field or training stuff we're not aware of. The backups are Joe Webb who is barely a QB and 5th round rookie Nathan Peterman... maybe they're just mad about what they've seen from him? But at 5-4, two games off the division lead and with a great shot of a wildcard still it just strikes me as a pretty knee-jerkish and kind of awful decision. But who knows, Peterman may prove me wrong come Sunday!

I like Taylor and always have but he has been garbage this year. Doesn't help when the players around you are blowing hot and cold also but to come out with the higher standard nonsense to justify being benched is just stupid. He even admitted playing badly in the same interview. He is basically hinting at the Bills dropping him because he is black which is a slippery slope to go down given current climates.

PFF have him as 9th best QB in the league this season of week 10 starters. ESPN total QB rating has Taylor 17th of those starting last week. More subjectively, Gregg Rosenthal has him 11th in his QB index.

    I don't get it.

That will change after week 10. He was awful at the weekend Saints defense murdered the Bills and Taylor looked horrendous. 50% completion rating only 50 yards no TDs and 1 int and 33 rating. But like the Pats the Bills schedule has been fairly easy this year. Easy to be efficient and look good when the teams you are playing are not performing. Brady is Goat and all but it has helped the Pats that the schedule has been kind to us this season.

As I said I like Taylor but I do think he should be blaming himself and not other for his own performances.

He does seem to have a valid point about the stereotypical way in which black QBs are described to be fair, and it isn't too hard to see what the stereotype amounts to. But do people actually call Aaron Rodgers a pocket passer? Have they ever seen him play? He's easily the most dangerous QB in the league out of the pocket, throwing on the run. I don't think I've ever heard him characterised as a pocket passer.

Taylor has been treated appalling in general by the Bills, they have gave him no support, forced him to redo his contract in the off season, have traded away anyone with a hint of talent. It is amazing that they are 5-4 the way they have operated.

They tried to **** Taylor over behind a back up o-line in preseason and then Peterman failed his audition. He is not "the guy" of the new GM & coach but it looks awful.

Taylor is easily a 10-20 rank QB, with a decent support system the guy can take a team to the playoffs IMO. He has earned a starting job in this league & I hope someone gives him a shot next year while the Bills are going winless.

Taylor is waaaaay down on the list of worries the Bills should have. Benching him is idiotic in the extreme. He hasn't even been bad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,349 ✭✭✭✭Foxtrol

Agree on the poor treatment of Taylor. They've done what they could to put him in a position to fail and he still had mostly solid performances this year.

I'm not sure about him bringing race into it. Similar things could be said for White WR or RB where they are known as being 'tough', 'physical' or, 'sneaky fast' and have to fight more to make up for it.

I don't think his problem is the colour of his skin rather that he is at a team that hasn't wanted him there for a while now.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,495 ✭✭✭✭Billy86

I'd agree there pretty much all around (Jordy Nelson spent years pretty much being the poster boy for 'sneaky fast'), it's just so bizarre to me how they seemed quite eager to get rid of him after so long without anyone of use at the position. Check out this list post Bledsoe (Fitzpatrick wasn't too awful but Taylor has certainly been better) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Buffalo_Bills_starting_quarterbacks

I enjoyed the sky cam at the fog game a few weeks back so but I think the novelty for me wore off last night. It’s alright in small doses but I don’t think I’d want to see it used for most of the coverage any more.

Taylor has been linked with Denver since the beginning of last season - and, as I said on the other thread, Elway is getting desperate.

Denver are unlikely to end up in a position to draft one of the top QBs and cannot afford the likes of Cousins. Getting Taylor allows Elway to use the draft to fix the OL (and a couple of other spots) and it works with the Denver salary cap.

He is the only realistic option for Denver - and if they don't get him the team will be in a bind.

As an aside - I wanted Elway to get Taylor last year - he is a perfect fit for Kubiak's WCO.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,495 ✭✭✭✭Billy86

Denver would seem a good fit alright, makes it a bit curious that buffalo didn't trade since they do seem to be trying to get rid of him and I reckon Denver would've bitten. He's used to playing in a more run focused system and his ability to scramble would help if the line doesn't get fully fixed in one off-season. So long as the defense stays as is after all, Denver can typically get away with chipping away yards and mostly taking fgs with a td here or there, as opposed to team who know they'll likely need close to 30pts to win in any given week.

I can see why he goes there. He is better than a large chunk of quarterbacks. Sure not the greatest season but is his back up going to do any better?

He is no where near benching bad. I would be looking for a reason why. He certainly is not being benched to help them win football games so....

I don't know if it is due racism or not but I can see why he might think that. It could well be incompetence on the Bills side which would be easy to believe.

The Bills are a mess and have decided to put stock into their rookie. Is it the right decision probably not but they clearly don't want to win games anymore as we all know Taylor is their best option. But contrary to what stats sites say he was horrible at the weekend though and he has a few bad games as have the rest of that Bills offense.

But I said it before and I will say it again these QBs need to stop comparing themselves to QBs on other teams and so should fans. It is a moot point because he doesn't play for those other teams. Taylor will find a good home eventually but right now the Bills dont seem to care they have a QB that would start in over 50% of the other NFL teams but using that as an argument is irrelevant as it wont change his situation.

As for the Racist thing I highly doubt he was dropped due to being black. Never got this argument. The majority of the league are black. I also dont believe Black QBs are held to a higher standard.

The bit in bold though I am sure the Bills have told him why they dropped him. You honestly think the HC hasn't mentioned to Taylor why he is not playing Sunday? I know some of these organizations are a sh1t show at times but I do believe the HC would have told him.
