It's on setanta I think. But just get a bus/taxi/lift to the game...... We don't get to cup finals too often, it's gonna be a great night!!!

Heartbreaking night all in all. Disappointed in the approach we went with, think we could have given it more of a go. Also poor form from a couple of players who didnt go up for the fifth pen instead of O'Connell who never should have been our fifth.

Hopefully the injuries to Oji, Enda and Shanahan dont hinder the battle at the bottom.

Terrible performance, played for the draw and nothing but hoofball for the entire game. Kick outs were shocking, just giving the ball directly back to Pats every time.
Thought we were gonna steal it in the end, you have to feel for Keegan missing his penalty.

I'd 100% agree with this, United only played a bit of football in the last few mins of normal time, and when they did they had pat's rattled. Can't help but feel more positive tactics could have won the game for us.

Alas it's wasn't to be, now the focus must switch to premiership survival, hopefully safely avoiding a relegation playoff.

Pats had so much of the play yet nothing at the end of it up front . Think they deserved the win really . United nervy and under pressure throughout . Missing a bit of solidity in midfield I thought . Good occasion but could have been a great one..
Hope they stay up now tough game next week away to rovers

Ya I wouldn't agree it was a terrible performance by any means. Defended excellently throughout and had numerous chances, the bits from others that you couldn't argue with is the poor tactical choice by the manager.

Yes, defended well, but then put themselves under pressure straight away by hoofing the ball upfield and losing possession every time!! It was frustrating to watch, and then when they tried to play they showed what they could do. Just too cagey and safe from united tonight, didn't think the ref was great either, but them is the breaks!!!

Ya we needed to step up another five yards, pass the ball and play to our strengths. Didnt think the ref was too bad, cupla odd calls but we got a number of dodgy frees which were definitely undeserved as well as acorner where the ball came off Jake.

Second from bottom after last weekend's defeat to Shamrock Rovers. A worrying place to be, given that many of the other relegation-threatened sides have hit form in recent weeks.

Unless I'm mistaken, I don't think United have taken points from any of their games against the top four sides this year, which is probably down to a lack of belief more than a lack of ability.

Two massive home games this Friday and next Friday, at home to Sligo and Limerick. These games are more significant, really, than the League Cup final, though the attendance for them will probably be quite a bit lower.

Any word on Ryan Connolly's injury and when he'll be back?

The same ankle injury that had him out previously, dont think its season ending as far as ive heard.

Decent preview of tonight's game in the City Tribune today.

It said Ryan Connolly is a "massive doubt" for tonight and quotes Tommy Dunne saying Ryan has been to see a specialist about his recurring ankle injury.

Vital we won that tonight.. 3 points from either limerick or bray should hopefully see us over the line.

I wasn't convinced by Conor Winn earlier in the season but he is the player most responsible for that three points last night. He seems to be playing with much more confidence now, which is vital at this stage of the season.

The crowd was reasonable, I suppose, but I thought it would be bigger given the importance of the fixture.

Looking forward to the Limerick game next week. Their manager, Martin Russell, was in the stand last night and was busy with the note-taking.

No doubt Russells notes include plenty of 'play for corners, set pieces and pretty much lump the ball in the box at any opportunity' as we simply can't seem to defend them well at all...always major panic and more often than not we fail to win the headers!

Much needed 3 points last night all the same and a bit of a get out of jail as Rovers looked the more likely the whole game. I would be hoping for a much better performance against Limerick the next night to be honest.

As long as we get the result i couldnt give a toss how we play.

At this stage its only points that matter. With the form Limerick have been in if I was offered a point next Friday I'd happily take it. Drogheda have a tough run in and Longford have struggled of late also.

I'd have taken a draw before the game Friday and for most of the game. The 2 goals in quick succession was a bit of a bolt from the blue. Having said that you could see why Sligo are struggling also.

I firmly believe that if we can stay up there is potential for this team with 3 or 4 quality additions to firmly establish itself as a good Premier Division side. For the last couple of decades we've either been in division 1 or battling relegation. Getting people to support the team on a regular basis is soul destroying though. Friday was at least as important as the cup final but back to the usual level of home support.

We were pretty poo in the cup final to be fair but for some very solid defending from Sam and Winn. We're far from the finished article but I hope that we finish the season as premier division. I think it would be a really hurtful thing for the club to be relegated. Maybe more than other sides since we're pretty new in this format.

I went to see us against Cork when they were down and we were atrocious. Made me feel a little sad since I only get to see them occasionally these days. Some serious changes needed for next year. Not sure about Dunne. Can't fault what he has done but I always feel there is something more out there - right or wrong.

I get the feeling that Tommy is getting the best out of the group he has. We don't have the finances to overhaul the squad next season so id be worried that if we got rid of Dunne we would be in a far worse situation. Some of his signings have not really produced but he wasn't able to get the players he really wanted due to budget restraints. Crowd was a little disappointing on Friday but there was very little buzz leading up to it.

A couple of issues with Dunne, weve been leaking like a sieve on set pieces all season and he hasnt been able to really fix it. Hes also very conserative against the big teams and as soon as we go ahead.

Poor defeat tonight. Limerick played well to be fair and had a big travelling support. If they had started the season like they are finishing it they'd have had no worries. First goal very disappointing from the usually good Colm Horgan. Limerick should have had 3 at half time. After getting level to give back the goal so cheaply was hard to stomach.

Getting worrying from a United perspective now. That result has brought Limerick back into the equation, Derry have moved clear with their win tonight and Drogheda got a point also. Almost certainly need more points but they will be hard got. Hopefully Dundalk will be in celebration mood all week and we may be able to sneak something in that one.

Either way its going to be a nervy finish to the season.

Very sluggish first half from United and, apart from a decent first 15 minutes, the second half wasn't much better. I thought Conor Melody put in a good shift when he came on, but too many of the more established players were well off the pace tonight. Limerick showed far more desire and never allowed United to settle on the ball.

It is a worrying situation to be in and looks like it will probably come down to the last game of the season against Pat's.

Getting a win against Bray is now non-negotiable, we will get nothing in Dundalk next week and i wouldnt want to be relying on beating Pats who may still need a point or three for the last Euro place.

Limerick were on fire , galway flat. Thought Sinnott played well. Full backs not so much. connolly and gary s a bit off the boil distribution not great . That was probably our best team bar maybe Molloy if playing well. Tough games ahead . What was the crowd?
