Think the general rule is Don't Fly warplanes around Neutral countries, I think if they get to close the Lads next door may help it have a splash landing. Russia Has no justification in doing what it's doing around Ireland or Uk.

I'm just asking if anyone knows the rules, that's all. If as you state that you can't fly a military aircraft within 80k of a neutral country's airspace then it would be be fairly difficult for any aircraft to take off in Norway (NATO) without flying close to a neutral country's (Sweden) airspace.

Eh No tinfoil hats needed about Nukes the last one had some in it. I'm not saying Ireland would be nuked by these planes. But people were under the misconception that Ireland is not targeted by Nuclear weapons in the past Not sure about now. And what NATO sabre Rattling ? It's the Russians invading sovereign states not NATO. NATO are just showing they have not gone away.
Were is the proof of nuclear weapons Is that like sadam had weapons of mass destruction sure the russians are invadeing ukraine its their back yard and they dont want nato bases there thats not justifying it but they werent going to let the west just walk in after there little coup iraq was about oil libya about revenge veitnam about territory the great powers will always defend their interests.Ask yourself who is threatening who how many countries has russia invaded in the past 10 years the fact of the matter is everyone would love the russians if they had a drunk a hole like Yeltsin to piss away the country for peanuts and vodka

They never entered our national / sovereign airspace but whatever floats yer boat there Mr. Clancy

They entered Irish controlled airspace, which includes almost half of the Atlantic Ocean

The thing is it would be shot down before it got anywhere near a vital target you can bet your life on that The RAF are very fast and even if they got near the coast and let one off it would take about 15 min before the western response which would annihilate Russia

They could in theory do what they liked in our airspace .
Not a lot of deterrent to stop them or anyone else doing it,
They practiced a bombing run off Copenhagen not so long ago

We need to be realistic here.

The Russians want to protect their assets, so they are very unlikely to bomb Ireland without first granting Egginacup safe passage to Moscow.

He's a decent chap and looks out for fellow AHers, so once he arrives I'm sure he'll send us a coded warning by starting a thread called "Food I miss from Ireland" or similar.

The bombers would go in and mop up after the missile strikes. The bombers are in good-nick and have a very long-range; don't let their age fool you.

Some missiles wouldn't make their target (large rocket batteries in Canada) and those that do pass through, may well overshoot their target. Besides, when you consider the amount of actual targets in the USA alone...

Sabre rattling again, Putting civilians in possible danger. What's the reason, they don't have stealth the British can track them intercept and if needed take down. Was this one carrying Nuclear weapons again ?

Big fuss over nothing. These planes wouldn't have been carrying nuclear weapons, they are just long range reconnaissance flights. The Russians carry out over a hundred of these patrols every year, they have every right to fly in international airspace and they use visual flight rules to stay out of anyone elses way.

Nato carries out similar reconnaissance flights around the edges of Russian airspace but nobody makes a big hoo-haa about them like the british, and now irish, newspapers do.

I don't care, the more pictures and video of the beautiful Tu-95 the better.

Why would Russia waste a nuke for Shannon Airport when you could destroy it effectively with standard bombing?

Slow lumbering and easy pray for anti air systems and fast jets .

Complete area denial bombing the runway won't stop forces from been parachuted in and been used as a staging area for counter attacks.
