Didn't realise how small Iberia is. Not that much bigger than aer Lingus.

certainly short haul anyway, though they have a slight larger LH fleet with 8 332's & 8 333's, as well as 17 A340-600's
comparing the populations though - just under 10 times Ireland's?
In fairness, they have good rail & road links to central Europe

They also have Iberia express and air nostrum operating a large portion of their flights, not to mention Vueling, Ryanair and Air Europe who all have huge operations in air travel in Spain

If tomorrow (IAG Capital Markets day) is the announcement of the MIA route wouldn't it have leaked by now.

Are people expecting the 11 A321LR order and A350 to A330 change to be confirmed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,325 ✭✭✭kevinandrew

I wouldn't expect anything from tomorrow, I feel like being part of IAG has had some serious benefits for Aer Lingus especially in long haul growth but progress in product and in particular on short haul feels very slow.

I think tomorrow will be an IAG day.

I expect the change in EI order to be shown in the 'future fleet' update plan. Last year it showed plan for A320 standardisation across BA/IB/EI, A330 standardisation for EI and IB, same for A350 for BA/EI/IB.
(The IB order for A350 was originally 8 but in the recent Premium Economy press release it mentioned 16 on order)
Lets see if tomorrow the EI symbol is missing from the A350 slide and they have info on an A330neo/A321LR order.

IAG also need to clarify their outstanding A320 orders with Airbus. Vueling have their own supply coming onstream but IB and EI need some narrow bodies.

BA are launching their new 5 year business plan on Monday 7th at 1pm.

MIA is defo a late May/early June launch and EI usually announce on Wed/Thur so will be interesting to see if it happens. There does not appear to be a press briefing from EI at the airport tomorrow so I don't think it will be announced.

Interestingly that press release lead me to one about Premium Econmmy being introduced on Iberia.
That release says they have 16 A350 on order from 2018, which is 8 more than their order as dated on Aug 2015. I wonder where they sourced the extra 8 airframes......................

    Prem Y press release: http://atwonline.com/cabin-interiors-connectivity/iberia-introduce-premium-economy-37-long-haul-aircraft
    IAG Iberia A350 order Aug 2015: http://www.airbus.com/newsevents/news-events-single/detail/iag-orders-31-widebody-single-aisle-aircraft/

BA already have Prem Y, AA and IB are going to introduce it over the next couple of years. All 3 are part of the Transatlantic joint venture agreement which EI are planned to join as part of IAG family. I wonder will we see Prem Y on EI announced in a couple of years? Maybe once the organic expansion has reached its peak they will look at ways to increase the revenue from the traffic going through the Dublin mini hub?

You have to remember that a significant amount of short haul flights that were previously operated by Iberia are now operated by one of Vueling, Iberia Express and Air Nostrum.

When you add all of those fleets up, the number of aircraft is significantly greater than that operated by Aer Lingus.

Wouldn't say they are totally dead, before August 2015 IB had 8 350 on order with 24 options. Today it's 16 with 16 options.

Ah right, I didnt dig deep enough to find the info on the number of options they had and whether they had converted some into firm orders.

Still think slim chance of EI seeing any, Stephen was all about we are an A333 operator this morning.

Guess time will tell, likely now middle of 2017 or end before we know.

Great.. so we don't really know anything ! Well that's disappointing!
I see BA are to reconfigure their a320 to 180 seats, so we can probably speculate that any future 320s introduced to EI will be similar or indeed they may refit some of their current ones the same as BA

On the slides IAG state EI have 51 aircraft and this will grow to 59 by end of 2020.

So a growth of 8 aircraft over the next 4 years?
It's not much really considering over the next 4/5 years the older S/H EI-Cxx reg aircraft will need reitement and possibly the 757s, so assuming they are getting direct replacements the extra 4 frames you would hope would go towards natural expansion.
Any more word on these 11 321LRs?

If direct replacements it would still be 8 for growth?

When in 2017 are the next two a330s joining the fleet... Month-wise?

Any word of standardizing/slim-lining the seating in a320/older a330 fleets?

Has AerSpace (euro business) been shelved?

One due by end of May, so likely late April/May for first.

So, as expected, an RFP has been issued for 7 A321LR's

Interesting that it's RFP rather than conversion of an existing IAG order. Suggest they're happy to wait for a delivery slot to be available.

Sorry I can't read the article without subscription, whats an RFP ?

    Request for Proposal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 88 ✭✭Cravens

As I understand it, the RFP is being issued to lessors rather than to the manufacturer, so we may very well see the likes of Avalon converting some neo orders to neoLR orders (if they are still not booked). I have also heard on other threads that these might start arriving in 2018.

Is there plans to retire EI-LAX soon?

I read that on this forum I think yeah, but I've also heard that EWR is being sent back to the lessor next year. I cant see two 330's being disposed of even with two arriving in 2017 so I'll be interesting to see what happens. LAX is the oldest A330 in the fleet, just beating EWR by a few months.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,382 ✭✭✭goingnowhere

Heard same, all depends on the terms of lease and the dates for the next heavy check, which one is easier to get rid of. Believe both LAX and EWR had heavy maintenance last year

With Miami only being 3 times a week, it suggests a further route to use that hull in full

I'm guessing EWR will go first, probably cost a bit to get it back as EI are specific about getting a CF6 330

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 88 ✭✭Cravens

EI-EWR is a CF6 A330. I can't see EWR going next year, as it only re-joined the fleet last year...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,382 ✭✭✭goingnowhere

My point being the lease won't be cheap as EI had to get a CF6 hull, wouldn't take the RR Trent so likely paid a premium to get back EWR as little other options available

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 958 ✭✭✭Bussywussy

Latest is there's no plans to retire any 330s for the foreseeable future....

Pretty sure I've heard this mentioned in the past.
One can only dream of seeing an A380 in EI livery.
