Every organisation has SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) these are audited for accreditation. (ISO 9000, HPVA, TUV, etc etc). The Doctor has no control just to trust that the blood is labeled correctly and the accompanying paperwork is in order. If the Paperwork came from another country showing laboratory of origin, then yes it would. They are required to visually inspect it but Doctors rarely administer blood transfusions it is normally nurses.

They could refuse blood as individual doctors for damaged packaging or a mismatch in paperwork.

so then there is zero scope for any impact on doctors professional reputation, insurance or ability to practice medicine arising from this change.

    OK then.

Are you actually serious? I mean you can't be. You don't honestly believe that eveyone who has engaged in anal sex with other men is gay or bi? I mean what kind of world do you live in?

Edit: and this is coming from someone who is in favour of maintaining the ban!

Well yeah, I mean butt****ing with another guy is pretty strong evidence that a man is gay or at least bisexual.

Sodomy is an abusive homophobic term.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

It may be indicative but it is by no means conclusive. As much as I may have wished on occasion.

This thread seems off topic to me by now but sure.

That's one of the most abstract and illegible posts my eyes had the misfortune of witnessing.Who the hell are these people who have anal sex with men and are neither bisexual or gay?

Sexual activity and sexual identity are by some seen as two different things. So when you ask MSM group are you gay / Bi some of them may indeed say straight as that is their sexual identity. The Term MSM is purely to include all men who have sexual activity with men whatever sexuality they identify themselves with. Hence MSM is a wider group then just Gay and/or Bi men.

..So I had a look and USD site has a esri/isshr-report with some nice data.
It shows 2.7% of men self-identified as homosexual or bisexual, yet 7.1% of men reported a homosexual experience at some time in their life so far.

    SUMMARY
THE overwhelming majority of individuals defined themselves as heterosexual. Most reported
only opposite-sex attraction, but the proportion reporting some level of same-sex attraction
was more than double the proportion identifying as other than heterosexual.
Similarly low proportions of men and women have had same-sex sexual experience.

2.7% of men and 1.2% of women self-identified as homosexual or bisexual.
5.3% of men and 5.8% of women reported some same-sex attraction.
7.1% of men and 4.7% of women reported a homosexual experience some time in their life so far.
4.4% of men and 1.4% of women reported a genital same-sex experience in their life so
    far.
3% of men and 1.1% of women reported a genital same-sex experience in the last five
    years
Well yeah, I mean butt****ing with another guy is pretty strong evidence that a man is gay or at least bisexual.

For some people there can be a divergence between sexual identity and sexual activity. For instance the term ‘men who have sex with men’ (MSM) is used to describe all men who are sexually active with other men, regardless of how they identify themselves (UN AIDS, 2006).

So their sexual activity would be considered gay or bi however there sexual identity may not identified as the same by themselves, hence the term MSM is to include them.

Joey your the king of inaccuracy and evasion. The whole point here is anal sex/sodomy,not a situation where two men rubbed elbows in the shower after a football game. This is the act which is responsible for the implementation and continuation of the blood donation ban.Gay men engage in this.Gay men account for approx. 2.7% of the population. If your to be believed a large proportion of gay men abstain from this.Therefor the population to HIV infection ratio in the gay community is shockingly higher.Fact. I just don't know who these people you are taking about to blur the figures are. There not straight but are not classed as gay or bisexual either.Who are they?Your going to have to define a homosexual experience also?

Two men rubbing elbows in the shower after a football game… sounds pretty gay to me, however I don’t participated in team sports but I’ve always wondered. It’s does sound very gay men rubbing against each other in the shower. The elbows might just a way of finding out if the other guy is open minded ?.

Anyhow anal sex is not the point …. Unprotected Anal sex is considered by the HSE as a high risk for HIV & STI’s compared to other sexual activities, however it's not exclusive, other sexual activities unprotected also carry risks. And just to clarify Gay sex includes more than just Anal sex. I did check the report if it mentioned gay sex .. it did.

    USD site has a esri/isshr-report

    SUMMARY
AMONG both men and women who have experienced a same-sex partnership, only a
minority reported practising oral and anal sex.
The majority of men (70%) who have had same-sex genital contact have never either
given or received anal sex and less than 10% have had anal sex ‘in the last month’.

A minority of men (33%) who have had homosexual contact reported homosexual oral sex
    ‘in the last year’.

17% of men who have had homosexual contact had homosexual anal sex ‘in the last year’.
27% if men who have had homosexual contact reported never having homosexual oral
    sex.
68% of men who have had homosexual contact reported never having homosexual anal
    sex.
20% of women who have had homosexual contact reported never having homosexual oral
    sex.

No its not an abusive or a homophobic term. It's as old as the book of genesis itself. Now get off your high horse with this homophobic crap.

It is actually, it's a term that's primarily used by religious fundamentalists to paint it as something immoral and abhorrent. To denigrate gay people in general. Alongside words such as 'sodomites', Sodomy laws are enshrining homophobia in law. There's plenty of bigoted words that have ancient origins, doesn't make them non bigoted...

Out of interest, do you support outlawing anal sex Fran? How much of your post history should we take seriously or should we assume it's mainly in the heat of the moment and ignorant?

You know the book of genesis wasn't originally written in English?

Or that English didn't exist when the book of genesis was written?

No its not actually, not to the majority anyway. Its regularly used in law in one form or another. The USA use the term "deviant sexual intercourse".Regarding religion,i don't see your logic for the use of the term fundamentalists as sodomy is a sin and condemned by all branches of most religions.

LOL.Is there an upcoming referendum I don't know about?

Jesus dude, sodomy is a prejorative term, deal with it. Its likening someone's sexual behaviour to a particular incident in the Bible where are the town is destroyed by the wrath of god. get a clue.
