The only view I have been able to ascertain from the other side of this debate is yes,you are a homophobe if you disagree with homosexuality in any way, shape or form.
The facts always have and always will speak for themselves on this matter, lets just hope our minister for health acknowledges them.

Thats the thing Fran. I could take you seriously if your concerns were genuinely about the risks of the blood supply. But your concerns are clearly not. You've just admitted it. Its about your opposition to homosexuality.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

To be Honest Fran I found the Irish Times to be worse. As they "patched" the IBTS directors quotes together and came out with a different conclusion. The Haemophiliac Society are meeting with the minister tomorrow and the kidney Association are having their AGM the end of the week. I actually didnt realise that there are 16 of the original Haemophiliacs still alive. I wonder if they have opinions on the matter?
I have no problems with Gay men or women but I think the 80's and 90's are still fresh in other peoples minds. Plus luckily the Ebola scare was contained. I never asked questions about itor critised anyone. I just prayed for the poor souls involved in it

Are gay men at a heightened risk of ebola now too?

Tell me, where you get your apples from, do they think it was voluntary? Please do explain your thinking.

Also, care to explain your references to Agenda 21 and MK-NAOMI anytime soon?

Ah Joey the homophobia card has been played already,it just doesn't have the same effect second time around. The facts cannot be questioned, approx. 50% of all HIV cases come from 2.7% of the population(ESRI) and that is from gay men. That is the threat here,it's nothing to do with homophobia. You do accept these figures I presume?

No. I dont accept them. Theres 2 big problems with your fugures. 1 HIV statistics are counted on MSM - men who have sex with men. Not gay men. 2 Its true for the last few years that approximately 46-48% of new HIV diagnoses are amongst MSM. This is is for new cases. I dont know where your figure of 50% of all diagnoses is coming from at all. So no I do not accept your figures as they have 2 flaws.

Those figures are still obscenely high. I'd rather Leo kept the ban and simultaneously launched a massive campaign targeting HIV and Aids in our community.

You have in the past linked paedophilia and homosexuality so yep you're entirely motivated by homophobia...

I agree, ignorance is a large problem and education is the key. That should be the longterm strategy and if the day arrives when the statistics change then the matter should be revisited. For the now,HIV rates have been rising since 2004.

Why haven't assumed anything. We have just read your countless threads and posts on the topic of homosexuality.

Well if you are correct on the gay men/msm issue, and I have no reason to doubt it,this makes the statistics even more frightening.Instead of a 46% per 2.7% ratio it could be as high as a 46% per 2% ratio or less.Do you agree that the IBTS are acting in the interest of society as a whole with this ban? Others have cast doubt on this.

Nope, based on this. Have plenty of similar posts and much nastier ones too. Why such outrage for pointing out your general feelings about gay people? http://touch.boards.ie/thread/2057363871/3/#post93892800

Yes all of our posting histories are free to be shuffled through.I have said in the past that in the heat of debate there may be one or two things that were said in haste, but that's history.
It would have been very easy for me to open a new account but I believe that to reregister under an alias such as C_Kent etc. would lose any user all there credibility.

Haste as in the rush to jump to negative judgments and conclusions?

It's a predominant theme in your posts though, not a heat of the moment thing hence everyone else making conclusions..

What facts can you present to prove that the introduction of a 12 month deferral period for a man who has ever had sex with a man will result in more harm than benefit?

What? You dont seem to have a clue what MSM means. I have no idea where your 2% figure is plucked from.

I believe in treating people equally while I'm not gay, I think it's a major issue when people such as yourself tend to view it as necessary to judge, denigrate them or even limit their rights.

Your gay friends are far more likely to have hiv though. And the major risk factor for a straight woman to contract hiv is to sleep with a bisexual man.

    Erm

They are together 25 years one of them had one partner before they met and the other has only been with this guy. You do realize that heterosexual people can also get HIV from unprotected sex right?

The chances of a non drug using heterosexual male of contracting hiv are tiny. A woman has a higher chance but only if she chooses to sleep with bisexual men.
