I think the fact that the soccer forum needs posting restrictions full-time says it all.

    Thought the very same

That thread will be worth keeping an eye on.....when I first joined boards, it was with the intention of accessing the footie fora and posting there alone.
I didn't even apply, I stumbled across the rugby threads and found people who knew what they were talking about, whose opinions i wnjoyed and respected, while the debates can get heated at times (mea culpa) I wouldn't have it any other way......I'm either feeling the love today...or my temp being over 40° is making me delirious !

I don't understand why the two sports have to be in competition with each other. I don't like football so I don't watch it. No big deal.

Don't get me wrong I love both games but it's clear those there want to put the growth of rugby down to success and the supposed subsequent bandwagon that's occurred when they're ignoring that the sport of rugby is growing everywhere.

Well, to be fair, the growth of rugby in the last decade isn't primarily down to the strength of the sport in itself. It's because Munster, Leinster and Ireland have been successful in the last while. The challenge rugby has is keeping hold of those supporters once the success wanes.

Can you imagine rugby growing as it has recently during a run of results like we had in the 90s? Nah.

Success played a big part but the provinces playing more often than any time before was big help.
Growth of game was helped by provinces success. Those who got into sport in big way thanks to success and getting their kids into sport has helped.
Of course rugby growth wouldn't be what it has been if national team were ****e..

Best of luck to the Kiwis on the forum over the next few hours. I'd say the same to any Aussies on here but, well, Australia have enough Cricket World Cups. Would love to see it head to a new destination.

I didn't understand the point of that article, in terms of column inches, soccer gets about 10 times as much as any other sport. Which is probably fair as its fan base in terms of the EPL, would warrant that. Having that much space to fill, means the journos will be more inclined to look for things to sell papers, more scrutiny, though I don't think If Irish rugby players went around acting like some soccer players do, they'd get a free pass. The article was just a cynical exercise in filling column space, tagged of the success of the rugby teams last weekend, not even bitter, just incredibly lazy!

I am so confused. Did he play union or league? It sounds like the article is trying to imply he played union, but he seems to be indicating he supports league.

I didn't see any league references. All the clubs and matches he rferences are from the fifteen man code

They knicked a draw though....not bad for an away game in Pola.....I mean Dublin

Second half performance was great. Coleman will be livid with himself for blazing over and Keane hit the post with a header too.

A win would have made the group ridiculously tight!

If I had a euro for every time I heard that joke over the last few days.... I'd have 3 euro probably. :D

Well a good day / week for measuring the respective popularity of the two games in Ireland would probably be October 11th. Ireland v France in the RWC, and Ireland Poland in the qualifiers.

Two must win games. The Rugby game probably slightly more glamorous, but they are equally important.

All depends on the Scotland game. Poland could be irrelevant if we don't win at home to the Scots.

Yeah I thought so. I wasn't expecting a massive finale but it was a good episode with a lot of intertwining story lines.

Well they couldn't keep doing the same thing over and over. Meet group, fight group, wander forest, repeat. Also Morgan looked like something out of the Matrix. It's the happiest (?) ending of a season so far though. And I think that helped too.

Anyone play Madden 25 on PS4? I'm somewhat of an addict now. As soon as Madden 16 comes out I'm getting it!

Haven't played dark souls but heard Bloondhorne is fantastic. Might pick up Dying Light first tho, looks amazing.
