Only one week to go till Cork hurlers play their 1st match of 2016. After a change of backroom boys it will be interesting to see will there be more bite in them this year. I heard Bill Cooper could be tried at FF against Clare

Strange one. Why move one of the few players to preform really well last year?

Looking forward to seeing what teams will be named in both codes next weekend. Great to have matches starting back again!

Yeah its great ! but weather might be a spoil sport ....will be very interesting to see two new managers and what teams they will pick...I know its only the pre season touraments but you can get an idea what the new bosses might be thinking by the players they name e.g. what positions type of players etc..remember last year when Brian Cuthbert named some players who were with respects to them out of there depth at this level it was a useless exercise ..you have to name fellas that have a chance in making the league panels.

i agree with you i've never seen him play well in FF line. i'd play him midfield if i was going to try him anywhere. let him settle into to it so he'd be an option at the business end of the year. i wonder will the game be played at all? pitches all over the country must be paddy fields by now

Paudi Sul at 11 and Cooper at 14? Haughney again? Jesus wept. Twomey in the wrong position and we know what Moylan offers in the corner.

Well I guess these games matter little to nothing.

look its January, they are experimental sides - maybe last chance saloon for a few of those guys to finally rule themselves in or out - personally I always thought Moylan should have had more pitch time as opposed to habitually being an impact sub

Good to see the younger lads named in 26 and presumably the intention is to give them a run, mix it up and see how they get on.

    They have to start somewhere

Similar with footballers - great to see Ian Maguire / Deane back hopefully over their injuries and Alan O Donovan getting a run

Whats the update on Stephen Cronins injury - I have heard he'd be back for Spring ?

Its great to have games starting again and to look forward to - hopefully a few players will break through

Of course if the bleedin rain doesnt stop there mightnt be any games on Sunday

Wouldn't surprise me if this selection says a good bit about how we are going to set ourselves up for the year - big man at 14, playmaker at 11, one midfielder playing deep, big 'ball-winning' half-back line.

Considering how tactically clueless JBM was this has to be a positive even if I haven't a clue what a playmaking centreforward is?

It's a nice way of saying Paudi Sul isn't there to win ball (because he can't).

Id say hour and half at least and thats assuming your leaving from north side and get quickly thru 2 if not three sets of roadworks en route.

No point arriving at half time

I checked AA route planner there. About hour and half looks correct

Only thing is it's telling me go up the motorway to mitchelstown and cut across there. I would have thought up Mallow would be the way to go?

Depends where your leaving from I presume

Id usually take Mallow route myself

Roadworks at Buttevant and Mourneabbey were suspended over Christmas so hopefully not too bad.

Let us knwo what you thought of game

Bill Cooper is not starting. Just saw him walking his dog so he won't be even on the sideline. hope its not another injury. he could do with a good injury free run in the Fitz and the League.

Footballers beat Limerick by 1 point - 1-10 to 0-12.

Hurlers lost by a goal. Clare 1-14 Cork 0-14 FT.

Hard enough to sum up the game in Clare. Felt Clare were a nice bit better but it didn't translate to the scoreboard. Clare had a more settled team with regulars and was probably the difference in the end.

Pitch was heavy as you'd expect with the grass very long but players had no problems with keeping their footing so that helped the game.

Of the newcomers thought Conor Twomey corner back was very good until he got injured, William Leahy got a couple of nice scores and looks to have potential. Luke Meade got a nice score when he came on and looked lively.
Nobody stood out that much really. Would probably like to see mark Ellis again at midfield, I think it's worth looking at.

Got wet enough and dark at start of 2nd half and they had to turn on the lights. Still it was great to get away pretty ok with the weather considering how it's been recently.

Was strange to see Cusack with Clare

Can't imagine there will be a bumper crowd in Kilarney next Sunday!

Cork play UCC on Saturday in the Mardyke at 2.30 in the Canon O'Brien cup. That should be a good game as UCC would be strong this time of the year

Being a Cork man stuck across the county bounds I don't get to many games anymore so may just pop along. The novelty factor too of playing 'them' in the small ball.
