New wheel bearing - really didn't think it was as noisy as it was. Sanity is restored.

I think I've warped disks. Whup wup wup wup wup wup wup wup wup wup. Brakes still do the job but think I'm going to have to replace them. Fair aul judder out of them when you brake hard from over 120km/h.

I never search by name on donedeal anymore, I go to make, then model and then minimum engine size/fuel type.

Need new tyres for the Panda. Any suggestions on a place in Dublin that sells good tyres? i.e. not only cheap chinese rubbish and part-worns.

Drove up the Sally Gap last night. First time this winter I reached for the 4WD, made for good increase on stability.

I made it up the gap in Feb in the snow, in the 520, without any issues. This morning had packed snow frozen out my neck of the woods, again in a rwd car with summer tyres.

I'm still not seeing the need for all the winter crap that's peddled out every year

Fair play. Did it in the Clio about that time too. Got caught out near glencree where I couldn't make headway cos of the wheelspin. Let a decent amount of the air out of the tyres and kept her rolling. Manageable alright in a normal car.

The 4WD is nice to have in the snowy sections, you'd manage without it, but nice to have nevertheless. Winter tyres? All terrains is where it's at :D

Whatever you say I feel much safer having winters on. :P

Obviously even the best tyres would not be enough if driver's careless. :D

That's almost 2 years worth, about 40k annual.
Reside in Laois and gf works in Dublin, we do a good bit of travelling too.
Don't know how it adds up!

Regardless, turbo is off etc. . I have pics and will stick them up soon. For now Ì am cold and covered in a mile of gungy oil I wasn't expecting!

The amount of stuff that had to come off was insane!

EBay. What car have you? Sometimes they're specialist sites for individual cars

Citroen BX. They seem to have cobbled them together from whatever was in the parts bin that day.

Get an aul jap turbo diesel yb. None of this bother :pac:.

In 2 minds wheter or no to throw money at the primera. For a start it needs new disks and pads up front because they're warped. I could either live with it as is for another 6 months and sell it on or sort them out. But if I sort the brakes it means I might as well keep it for a bit which means sorting out the front bushings which are OK but a bit soft when your tippin along on a back road. If your doin them you might aswell do the ball joints and TRE's while your at it. And it need another new tyre in the next few months. To make good use of all new running gear I'll need to sort the fuel pump. Only putting out around 80 hp at the moment I reckon. Fuel temp sensor or something stupid gone in the fuel pump.

Main problem is even if i do all that work and decide to sell it, it's probably only going to sell for 600 as is or with new brakes, bushings and ball joints all around with an invincible fully mechanical fuel system putting out over 110hp. If it was a passat or BMW I might see some money back for it but no market for these cars at all really. In my mind if I do all that work it should be worth 1000 euro. It will cost me about 400 quid in parts and I don't mind doing the labour on it if for a year I get to drive a car that's going better than it was leaving the factory.

Have the similar problem with the mirage. Random parts. Had to go and measure the the ARBs so I could order front ARB bushes of the rear of an Evo 4 and rear ARB bushes of the front of an FTO mivec :pac:. Got them off camskill. Motor factor only can only get in drop links and brake flexi's. The problem isn't that they don't have the parts it's just that they're not listed.

A mixture of specialist parts sites and forum and some decent measuring tools might get you somewhere. I wanted to get polybushes but you could just go main dealer if it gets alot of hassle.

Sure the likes of micksgarage are flat out advertising snow socks and chains and all that crap. I've driven in snow and frozen roads and stuff and I've never had any problems just take it nice and handy and it's fine if there's a big hill gradually build up the speed before hill all common sense really. Although I don't know if I'd be as confident in a rwd at least if a fwd starts to spin out it's not difficult to control.

I wonder is traction control any real benefit in the snow or icy road. I never had it on the astra or focus golf is the first to have it. Has a button to turn it off but what situations do you need to switch it off ?

    So just doing the sums...

    500 for the turbo
    100 for two oil flushes
    60 for final good oil
50 for a fecked flexible pipe
    60 in gaskets

800 ish because I know I've forgot some stuff, I'm surprised as that ain't bad as I thought!
    She'll live again!
