Many do. And often. But for the same reason they won't just abolish dying altogether and let farmers/whomever else legally uses green submit receipts to the tax office and claim back the tax (oh no, they'll be able to use it in their jeeeeeeeeps!!!!!!),

On that point, your mistaken if you think that Farmers would agree with that system of rebates. The IFA (possibly the strongest political lobby group in this country) would go absolutely mental if the government attempted to bring this in

The fuel that is washed in this country has to come from somewhere, and where its coming from is the Farmers, who simply order more than they need (as they have not got to prove their usage in any shape or form) and then sell it on Green to the launderers at a profit.

If the government did make the farmers account for their usage the launderering issues would disappear overnight. I have seen purchasing figures from small farms where they are ordering insane quantities of Derv, more than they would use in a year in one delivery. Its a system open to exploitation and the Farmers won't allow it to be regulated.

Thought they moved to Radioactive Markers this year?

So it wont be simple dyed anymore but be marked permanently.

    http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/ira-diesel-smugglers-fail-to-crack-colourless-marker-30282691.html
three scientists were hired in a desperate bid to crack a new diesel marker that was introduced on both sides of the Border... However... smugglers were still unable to remove the marker, and, according to garda and customs sources, diesel washing and smuggling – which has made multi- millionaires of many former terrorists – is now coming to an end.

Plus the tractors don't need headlights anymore they glow in the dark (:D).

    “Roll it back”

Hmmm. It's a good step but I wonder when they do eventually find a way to neutralise the marker (Iodine? Graphene?) the resulting "fuel" will probably be even worse :(

IPRA Launches Quality Assurance Scheme in the West http://www.ipra.ie/ipra-launches-quality-assurance-scheme-in-the-west/ one presume the petrol distributors already had a quality testing and assurance scheme.

I see they are very enthusiastic about updating fuel prices in Limerick - 0.00 everywhere.

If you worked out how much you use searching for cheap fuel there is a good chance you may have used all your potential savings! Rather than drive around looking for the cheapest price, look for your nearest IPRA station on this map and click to see the station. IPRA members offer convenience and competitive pricing all the time and you can check out services provided online!"

I'm sure the contamination will continue and probably increase now that "mister big" is set to own the Esso port in dublin.

It must be the same stuff his nephew uses to clean teeth in his other enterprise, Smile, I love petrol teeth.

Testing of fuel tankers dropped during petrol stretching crisis
    http://www.advertiser.ie/mayo/article/76712/testing-of-fuel-tankers-dropped-during-petrol-stretching-crisis-and-motorists-are-paying-the-price-says-deputy

    what petrol stretching crisis?

    anyway heres the pq https://www.kildarestreet.com/wrans/?id=2015-03-10a.197&s=petrol+speaker%3A345#g198.q

The numbers of samples of petrol and diesel that have been taken from bulk fuel transportation vehicles from 2011 to date are set out in the following table.
    Year Total No. Samples
    2011 92
    2012 76
    2013 61
    2014 24
    2015 (to 6 March) 9

what explanation for this, some sort of time lagged reaction to economic slow down?

I worked in the industry and the majority of fuel that is delivered from Leinster to Connaught and parts of Munster,Come from the same JFT at Dublin Port all tanks are sealed and loading is done by gravity.
Take the old Statoil company they supplied Tesco and I'm sure the company who bought them still supply them.
Depending on the tanks used they mainly carry the same product for example Jet A1 aviation jet fuel,These tankers can never be used for petrol kerosene example due to cross contamination.
A normal road tanker petrol/diesel can have up to 7 compartments,Again the only time they can change product from one to the other is when the tank is cleaned and purged.

Denis Naughten again in the dail asking about petrol stretching when he been told multiple times that the problem wasn't from petrol stretching https://www.kildarestreet.com/debate/?id=2015-04-01a.56.q Noonan again tells him it was diesel cross contamination

here he is saying if he didn't continue to call it petrol stretching it would confuse mototrists
    Denis Naughten @DenisNaughten
@lostexpectation damaged engines actually. If start talking about fuel contamination will confuse motorists into thinking we've another prob

no ignoring the results of the test will confuse motorist, how about you call the problem what it is, treating people like they are idiots he is, this petrol stretching meme started with the the help of the Indo SF scaremongering, and now the gombeen TDs won't back down from it, they obviously think that theres more for their constituents in continuing to pretend the problem is petrol stretching.

how did frank feighen get laundered diesel in his car? https://www.kildarestreet.com/committees/?id=2015-04-02a.873&s=petrol+stretching#g896
Many people have complained, as I did three years ago when my engine was made unworkable because laundered diesel was put into it.

Paying for this now in insurance premiums. My renewal has gone up €160

  • Registered Users Posts: 977 ✭✭✭Wheelnut

All insurance premiums seem to be going up. I've seen posts on other forums where premiums have doubled or trebled for no reason. It seems to be something to do with insurance companies under-providing for losses. It's not just claims for petrol stretching damage. You may have got away light with a €160 increase.

I called a big insurance company, got a quote for about 1,000 euro. Had a 5 years no claims with them, I told them as they inquired after the quote that the no claims bonus was not in Ireland but was with the same firm, new quote 3.5k

They just lost my car insurance here, in Ireland and my house insurance.

Insurance is based on the market, not the firm. I wouldn't expect a firm in America to honour my bonus here, wouldn't make sense as it's comparing apples and banana's in terms of risk. The risk in Ireland, for such a small nation, is astronomical.

The issue is not the issuers, it's our court system giving massive pay outs and a emerging claim culture that people seem to be completely ignoring.

Customs officer, David Walsh gave evidence of drawing a sample from the petrol pumps at Conlon's, Knocknagoran, Omeath, on 29 August, 2014.

Shocking carry on that they were allowed continue to trade after it was discovered the 2nd time and that it took a year and a half to get to court. The fine wouldn't even cover the cost of 1 new engine.

Fine of 2500eu only?! Really? I bet legal fees and investigation costed 10 times more and he got fine only for 2500?
I bet he made more money then the fine and if the fine go like this he might as well carry on.

Reminds me of whole vrt in Ireland, which is illegal bt ei standards, but it's more profitable for government pay fine amd keep doing vrt.
