has anyone bought industries yet? From reading some of the most recent reviews it would seem like its a bit broken. Just want to see if any boardies have it and what their experience is of it

So what mods and/or DLCs do people recommend? I've a feeling I'm going to sink a LOT of time into this over Christmas so I want to set myself up as best I can. Plus the DLCs will likely be on sale, etc.

Anyone have any good mod collections on Steam or would be willing to share theirs (convert what they use into a collection) ?

Mass Transit is worth it, I do like the green cities one too.

The new park life is definitely a good dlc but only on sale.

If you enjoy micromanagement, get Industry and Parklife. Otherwise don't other IMO. Mass Transit, Snowfall, After Dark the best expansions probably.

    DLC:
Snowfall is decent enough. I like the trams especially. Keep in mind that it doesn't add seasons to your cities, think of it as more of a theme (it'll always be winter in that city). It's great to mix things up.

After Dark is good. You'll get taxis and bikes, and some commercial specialisations (tourism, leisure), which helps add some variety. I think you get traffic lanes (dedicated bus/bike) from this?

Mass Transit is probably the best expansion so far. Should be top of your list!

I didn't buy Natural Disasters, Green Cities, Park Life, Industries. Just not my thing.

Have a look at LGR's playlist, he goes into pretty good depth on the DLC.

    Mods:
I'd actually suggest to play the game "vanilla" before looking at mods. Just so you get to grips with it. I always play with these:

    I second these.

Prop & Tree Anarchy is also a good one to have.

Lots of great mods for detailing and decorating if you're into that. Like Prop & Line Tool, Random Tree Rotation, Road Anarchy and Quay Anarchy.

I dont think the game zooms in enough for the detailing and decorating, especially with regard to the new parklife dlc. Although it is good for designating areas of mountainous-hilly terrain as nature reserves!

Havent logged on in months so I said I'd try a new game with the industries, fecking spent too much money on roads and couldnt connect my power to my city - had to quit the game, a half hour wasted!

I always start with a tiny city, maybe five residential "blocks". Set the budget sliders for services as low as I can without disrupting things. Gradually increase as required. Start earning money soon enough with that strategy, then focus on expanding.

Having said that, I've pulled a Detroit a fair few times too. :pac:

Haven't played this game in ages, but this comment reminded me of my first city. I was just throwing stuff together and had the mentality of larger population > everything else because more people = more taxes = more stuff to buy.I had industry and residential blocks mixed with each other which meant my healthcare budget was through the roof. Ambulances, and subsequently hearses, couldn't get anywhere due to constant gridlock. And the trains? Well, the city had load of them and they weren't going anywhere. Couldn't figure out why my high density commercial building were shooting up and then going into ruin. Something to do with neither customers nor suppliers being able to get there.

I think that out of the 10 or so cities I built, my first one was by far the most populous. But jaysus, it was sh1te.

Early mistakes were triggering death waves by zoning too much at the same time, young people moving at the same time, aging together and then dying together.

Another time I left it running to build up some cash didn't notice that a forest fire burnt down the power line to my hydroelectric dam - my population collapsed and I ended up in huge debt - proper Detroit.

Another fun one was my dam flooding parts of the city.

I only found about the death wave the other day! Cant believe that has happened, but makes sense.

    Really enjoying the industries DLC

Fed up with DLC at this stage tbh

Would you recommend this game ahead of the latest Sim City? Have Sim City, thought it was quite good, but willing to try this if its a step up

It's miles better. It's one of the best sim games I've ever played

I know oil runs out but I reckon it runs out fair too quickly in the game, same with ore tbh. I might have to try one of the mods with unlimited ore etc as the industries that produce products from it are always looking for raw materials.

I can see why you'd say that, they seem to be milking it a bit.

But I like that they're still supporting the game, even if the DLC may not be expanding it that much. Personally, I've skipped the last few DLC, even refunded the Parks one. I'll wait until they're on a deep sale.

Has anyone tried Frostpunk? I'm interested in that.

Frostpunk was good but has a short per-game lifespan and I've not found that much replayability in it. Anno 1800 on the other hand, awful dialogue (which you can mute) notwithstanding, has been pretty fantastic thus far... the girlfriend and I have put up maybe 50hrs combined in the last month.

Where is the cheapest place to pick this up for PC? I have been playing the Xbox version on my PC for the past few months and liking it but it's now coming off gamepass so I'll have to buy a copy. I would be after the mass-transit DLC also, any other recommendations?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,616 ✭✭✭Gamer Bhoy 89

Considering it's only €27.99 on Steam, you're not gonna find it much cheaper than that, unless you go to G2A, which is a questionable site in and of itself, but then again, it can be bought for under a tenner on that but you wouldn't be supporting the developer/publisher if you bought it there.

I think 27.99 is a fairly good price considering its size. You can get the Deluxe Edition for about 36.99

With the new DLC release, the base game will most likely go on sale on Steam, along with the other existing DLC. If you're looking to buy it, it's definitely worth holding off until a sale.

Incidentally, it's worth treating it as a rule to only buy something on Steam when it's on sale (as they're so regular).

And that sale has arrived; the base game is 80% off on Steam right now, €5.59. Most DLC is 25-50% off.
