Rooney 70% to a drop. Luckily Aguero is going the other way, I'm amazed he went up to £12.1m in the first place! Couldn't score against Stoke and two tough games ahead. Unfortunately despite him getting numerous transfers out after the Stoke game he must have been just over 100% so still went up.

I would guess Rooney will drop, with Costa, Aguero and now Falcao all better replacements. I can handle a £0.1m drop but thats it!

Aguero was just over the threshold by about 3%. He won't fall back to 12.0 before GW 4 but it is still worthwhile to take the 0.1 hit on rooney as he should outscore Aguero between GW 4 and 5 and i think at least a 4 point difference is worth the 0.1 cost.

Aguero has 3 tough games coming as Bayern Munich is sandwiched between arsenal and chelsea so there is no way that Aguero will see 90 minutes for Chelsea and Arsenal. Aguero is a logical choice though from GW 6 onwards unless falcao starts tearing things up, which is possible.

I'll gladly take the price hit on Rooney. Weighing up those fixtures against his and United's current form I'm still willing to give him a shot while more pressing transfers present themselves.

Can we assume that Falcao will take penalties in Van Persie's absence??

I don't think that is a solid assumption, merely a possibility.

Considering that Captain Rooney keeps hogging the free kicks from Mata i would seriously doubt that he will concede penalties to Falcao. I expect Rooney to be number 1 penalty taker when RVP is not on the pitch.

Much as I would love for Rooney to retain penalty duties the fact is that he is a terrible penalty taker, I would say his percentages from the spot are embarrassing. He can deliver a very good cross though and is quite dangerous from direct free kicks so I see no issue in him taking responsibility for a fair share of them.

Good point on the Bayern game.

Despite the dreadful start I still see myself having 3 United players throughout the season. Not having CL games will be FPL gold dust.
May be a slight contradiction at first but I think getting knocked out of the league cup is a negative (FPL wise) as it may bring an element of rotation into the league... If LVG wants to see some youngsters play then he has less non prem games to see them now.

Either way, it'll be 3 United for me as long as they get out of the relegation :( fight soon.

The questions is - which 3, assuming Jones is 1?
If Rooney plays deeper would you keep him?

He'd probably be better off playing a bit deeper in my opinion.

Jones is indeed one :) Still unhappy I didn't captain him last week. ;)

The other two are Mata & Rooney.

If Rooney plays deeper then I would certainly consider taking him out and replace with another but for now it will be those 3 starting next week. I'm happy* to wait, watch and see what happens over the next few GWs.

*happy as long as neither Rooney nor Mata drop 0.2 this week. I would take 0.1 on both.

As it stands. I'm happy with the trio.
Falco could leave a lot of people annoyed. LVG doesn't throw half fit players into the team.

Your point re Rooney - "he should outscore Aguero". Aguero has played 121 minutes against Newcastle, Liverpool and Stoke and has 14 points. Rooney has played 270 minutes against Swansea, Sunderland and Burnley and has 11 points.

So Aguero has played less than half the minutes Rooney has against tougher opposition and is 3 points ahead.

Rooney should already be out scoring Aguero and he isn't. Aguero scored last season against both Chelsea and Arsenal I'd also add.

Rooney will be playing in a very team after the international break with Herrara, Blind, Shaw, Rojo, Di Maria (more settled), rafael and Falcao all expected to come into the first team with an expected change of formation to 4-3-3. Rooney "should" be a very different prospect now. The word should is conditional and not absolute.

I am also bearing in mind that Aguero has a tough week and will be a major rotation risk. Pellegrini will prioritise the Bayern game foremost so i expect Aguero to get reduced minutes in GW 4 and GW 5. He has better PPG right now but without the distraction of tough CL games interjecting the league GWs.

People writing off Rooney and Manchester United are ignoring the fact that a number of players will be coming into the team and that there will be a formation change to accommodate the new players. I believe he is a good short term prospect but not a long term prospect.

Aguero could outscore him but it's unlikely imo until after GW 5 when Aguero will be nailed on for my team unless Falcao goes on a major blitz.

United having a ton of new players isn't necessarily a good thing for Rooney. There's the chance that players could be rusty, struggle to adapt to the league (Rojo and Blind are moving from inferior leagues) and of course less playing time for Rooney because of rotation. Not to mention the dilution if attacking points - Rooney isn't first choice penalty taker for example.

There's also the argument I posted earlier on another thread which I believe myself - United have strengthened without actually bringing the balance they need to the team.

Di Maria played against Burnley and while it was an improvement there wasn't a huge amount created for Rooney. Worth noting is that he's now arguably the number 3 striker at United behind RVP and Falcao. Aguero is the undisputed number 1 at City.

Re Aguero having better PPG "right now", Aguero has the best goals per minute ratio in PL history. A goal every 113 minutes. Better than Henry at 121.

    http://www.joe.ie/football/sergio-aguero-now-has-the-best-goals-per-minutes-ratio-in-premier-league-history/

City's only problem is keeping him fit and on the pitch.

Rooney also has two matches (one a qualifier) where he's expected to play 90 minutes over the international break. Aguero only has one which is a friendly.

I posted this about Rooney last season also but I've been playing the game 8 years and have rarely had him in my team. He's generally overpriced because of the English medis hype for a second striker at a top club - see Dzeko, Jovetic, even Giroud priced lower - and even in his most successful seasons better options have been available.

Rooney has been one of the best, most durable and top scorers in the EPL his entire career. A few new guys come in from Leagues that are not as physical or fast, and that makes Rooney disposable?

A good epl player does not necessarily make a good fpl player

When I read this i thought - surely Rooney isn't that bad so went looking for some stats to prove this assertion wrong.

However, he is a terrible penalty taker statistically. He has the ninth worst conversion rate since 92-93 of players who have taken 10 or more penalties at 68%. For the record the worst 3 are Juan Pablo Angel (50%), Jermain Defoe (57%) and Dwight Yorke (60%).

Is Terry going to drop tonight? Ontop of rebuilding team off my WC druing the international break also trying to up my team value. Getting rid of him was not in the plan, unless replacement was to go up in value, and I could sell at a profit, and buy Terry back cheaper. Any guesses on someone who could fit that description

Hard to tell. FISO has him at -81.6%, FPLStats at -49.4% and totalfpl at -110.5%...
If you're on WC, do get rid! You have all the time in the world to get him back before the next deadline and in the worse case scenario he'll be the same price than what you sold him for.

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,099 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

If you're on WC it'd be madness to keep him.
Transfer him out, let him drop and then buy him back again just before next GW.
If he was to drop 0.1 then you should be delighted. You'll have an extra 0.1 to play with.

Little bit of brain mush tonight. Focusing on them rising, I'm forgetting I can buy back price drop players more cheaply.

    Thanks for the reponce guys.

No all drops. Bojan the only real one of note. Coutinho if anyone has him too. I am beginning to get a little worried that the FPL game is slightly broken this year. As long as you avoid drops, most people will be able to afford pretty much the same teams by gameweek 10-15.

Ive been playing it for about 6-7 years now and I never remember so few rises in players. Its like they are trying to cater to the casual player rather than those who would constantly watch rises etc. Playing the market use to be one of the most tactical and challenging aspects of the game.

Not tracking the price changes taking away a huge appeal for me.. Have to agree with the above

I would have liked a slight slowdown on the price changes, but not to the extent we're seeing this season, whatever they've done (and i'm not even sure they know themselves) it's certainly made things less interesting

I'd love to know the combined total of all players starting prices versus current prices. I'm guessing the whole population of players has declined in value overall by a good bit.

They should just leave the prices static if they want to do that.

I think this year it is price falls that will make or break teams. The algorithm has changed and the price falls are happening more regularly than the rises. A lot of emphasis is put on jumping on bandwagons to make money but the onus is not necessarily on getting off players that are about to fall in price. From previous experience it is actually the price falls that make the big difference come the end of the season.

I think the casual players will see a lot of value decimated over time and they simply won't be able to afford players.

For me i am monitoring net transfers out closely for my team and will continue to do so all season.

Regarding Ultimate FPL i would be happier if they just commercialise the current game by offering an official paid FPL competition or leagues. They must be aware of the numbers of cash leagues that people enter and the potential for revenue there. I reckon if they can get 21K users for Ultimate FPL at £5 a pop they could get anywhere between 50K to 100K for the original game at the same cost. I would love to play in an FPL league with a cash pot of £500K
