Wait, explain this to me, its based on grades? Can you not just say like "i want to specialise in genetics or whatever for the third and fourth year" and that's that?

Unfortunately, you can't. Some courses such as Engineering TCD allow you to chose what you want with freedom - but for Science TCD, you have to compete for it.

I'm not sure of the exact details on how it works, but a friend told me it's like the leaving cert. The people who score the highest in their 'second year exams' are given their first choices and so on etc.

It's one of the reasons why I'm not picking this course. What happens if I don't get what I want? Sure there might be a different longer route - but I don't want to be stuck with Geology if I suck at my 2nd year exams :pac:.

That course is probably my third choice right now. Yeah i heard that at the biomedical engineering talk actually. I might reconsider it now like as you say imagine being forced to do something you hated! :(

It was a very interesting talk, would of sat it a second time but my friends would of killed me .

You were interested in doing Genetics at TCD? Well, the genetics course in DCU looks really really nice and the points are very achievable if you work at it. You could probably do a Ba over there and then try get a Masters at Trinity.

Current plan is either Human Genetics(560) in TCD or Biomedical, Health and Life Sciences(also 560) in UCD. Was going to put TCD/UCD science 3rd/4th and then just a mix of courses for the last few spots

It's great to be open minded, and I'm sure you'll have no problem then. For people who only want one elective from day one, a lot of pressure on them! I'm planning to do Engineering at trinity and maybe move onto biomedical or computer engineering.

Yeah I might put it as my third choice with Medicinal Chemistry on top, then pharmacy second. For the engineering what types are there to specialise in Im quite intersted in petrochemical kind☺

I really don't know, what category with they be in? I heard that type of engineering rolls a lot of money early in your career.

I think i got 100% in my physchem exam today :D

Damn, did your teacher use past papers for the maths test? I always find the project maths papers having weird wording in their questions. Guess it'll take time to get used to.

Yeah it was all off past papers, i could have tried harder for maths but like I'd be happy with a B in the LC
