A former teacher passed away from our school so tomorrow is a day off and Monday is a Holy Day.

4 day weekend, so happy to be able to relax!

Good for you, but odd how your school authorities managed to get round the Department to get a day off for a former teacher. We had a current teacher die a few years ago and there was no day off.
    You get Holy Days off?
    Are you in Ireland?

He was a legend around the school though, he actually wrote one of the Economics books that's used all around the country!

Basically you can come in for first class and then go home or go to his funeral or not come in at all, they're also providing study facilities for the regular school times of 9 to 1.

Everyone is being marked in for the day regardless of what they do.

The staff wanted to be able to go so I guess this was what they came up with.

Yes of course I'm in Ireland!:pac:

Doubt many people abroad would care about the leaving cert haha.

Can't imagine having teaching staff or anyone die in my school.

RIP for those who are gone.

Just wondering how you are taking Holy Days off - they were stopped by the Department a number of years ago. Perhaps your school makes up the days at another time.

The psychology was as well, it just felt like she was there for the sake of being there. The hall was also very big, and you could hardly understand her if you were at the back despite the speakers. It's incredible that there are only 45 places in the course, and I'm willing to bet my leg that there were at least 300 people at the talk. HIGH DEMAND FOR SURE.

The lectures/professors at the Computer and Biomedical engineering seemed like a fun bunch.

Did anyone get to a languages talk at Trinity today? Couldn't manage to make it up to Dublin this week because I've to go up next week.

I can now see why the points are so high. I couldn't believe it, I'd say that talk had the most people out of all talks, especially the last one out of the three.(although maybe medicine or nanomaterials had more as they have higher points)

There are 7 Secondary Schools where I live that I can think of, all Christian schools and therefore we get Holy Days off!

It's the same all over the country.

I think you'll find it's not the same all over the country, not unless the schools are making up the days elsewhere. Circular m21/04 stipulated that any 'holy days' taken had to be made up elsewhere, so that every school does the same number of days.

Tomorrow, the 8th December used to be a day off for the whole country - are you saying your school and the schools in your area still take a day off on the 8th?

I can offer clarification to this,AlanS181824 is in my school and we've the day off as we started a day earlier to accommodate having tomorrow off :)

    Problem solved!

Yeah, geography exam. I'd reckon I got a B because I wasn't sure of my time/question ratio. Now I know I can get a 30m question done 10-15min, so next time I'll do better.

    :D

English exam tomorrow on my three comparative texts.

How long is a 30m question, out of curiosity?
What!!Three Texts already we have only done King Lear so far... and we're not even finished yet..

We haven't learnt how to compare them yet, we just read and analysied the texts. I can't wait to do King Lear, I'd probably end up reading it myself over the Christmas holidays ;).

30m question is 15 SRPs (fact + relate to question).

It can be two pages, or two paragraphs. That's the thing that boggles me. If you know how to squeeze and fully explain 15 facts for an answer, you don't have much writing to do.

Geography is like JC history. Just write down the facts and make sure it's revelvant to the question :D.

You must have quite large writing, I'm pretty fast at 11 words per line and I only manage about 8/9 in that time

Yeah, I write like seven - nine words per line. I try to write small, but when you're battling against time ... it sucks.

    Happy 500th post to me!!☺

After doing some research on CAO courses I'm quite interested in General Science (TCD) and then later specialise in Molecular Medicine or Neuroscience... What do you guys think⁉
Medicinal Chemistry,Nanoscience and Pharmacy seems quite interesting too.☺

The thing that scares me about that course though is, would you like to do another Leaving Cert style exam with a CAO like system?

The electives for that course are competitive. Only an X amount go to A, B and C. I'd say the courses having any direct route into medicine are the most popular, as practically every person I know that is my age - wants to do medicine in some shape or form! :p

Yeah, I kind of saw that as well. The fact that they use exams results is quite daunting after puting in two years work of a similar system to get into the course. But there is a big range of courses if I dont get into my desired Chemistry/Biology course Physics is still an option due to the lower demand than other specialities in the course.☺

It's great to be open minded, and I'm sure you'll have no problem then. For people who only want one elective from day one, a lot of pressure on them! I'm planning to do Engineering at trinity and maybe move onto biomedical or computer engineering.

Wait, explain this to me, its based on grades? Can you not just say like "i want to specialise in genetics or whatever for the third and fourth year" and that's that?
