Thank god it did get blocked. It would have been terrible for the city

Block it until it gets derelict status and then collect rates on it. Handy that.

Ya, its a big conspiracy to collect more rates.

Is demolition of what is there is the only option now, given the length of time the site has been left exposed to the elements?
Maybe Troy studios could use it as a dystopian film set.

Not necessarily, the Anglo Headquarters (now the central bank) was left in a similar state for many years.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of it could be converted into offices and apartments.

are they paying those rates though, love to know, if they've kept them up to date or ever paid any at all. My gut says they've not paid a penny.

Declaring it derelict - joke !!, What are they going to do and how long would it take through the courts etc.

Lets just say the developer decides to walk away and says here take it, Its going to cost millions to do anything to it.
As it stands I couldn't see an engineering passing any of the current structure with its time and exposure to elements.
Even to just clear it and return to greenfield site any estimates on what that would cost ??

    City Co. absolute jokers

Derelict. From the April 2016 Council meeting. https://www.google.ie/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=10&ved=0ahUKEwjwhbOz06DbAhVH0oMKHe0zDTsQFghlMAk&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.limerick.ie%2Fsites%2Fdefault%2Ffiles%2Fmedia%2Fdocuments%2F2018-04%2FReplies%2520to%2520Questions%2520April%25252c%25202018%2520Meeting%2520-%252016.04.2018.pdf&usg=AOvVaw2cLZ-poABoTxfYpbqMagEJ

Question submitted by Councillor P. Keller
I will ask at the next Meeting for a response to the following enquiry.
    A. Can you confirm that Limerick City & County Council are, or were in discussions, or
negotiations with the present owners of the Horizon Mall site, with regards it’s future plans
    and use
    B. If the discussions have concluded, and a satisfactory conclusion was not agreed, when are
the owners of the site obliged to pay the Derelict Site Levies, now that the March 2018
    deadline has expired.
    C. Are, or were the Derelict Site Levies suspended until the discussions reached a conclusion.
    D. Is the Horizon Mall site still on the Derelict Site list.

    REPLY:
    A. Limerick City & County Council is currently having ongoing discussions with the promoter to
    develop the site.
    B. A Section 11 notice was issued under the Derelict Site Act in September 2017 requesting the
owners to carry out necessary works. If the necessary works are not carried out the next
available option open under the Derelict Site Act 1990 is for Limerick City & County Council
to issue a Section 8(2) which states that it is our intention to enter the property into the
    Derelict Sites Register.
    C. The Derelict Site Levies are not applicable as the Horizon Mall site is not on the Derelict Site
    Register at present.
    D. The Horizon mall site is still being dealt with under the Derelict Sites Legislation but the site
has not yet being progressed to the Derelict Site Register.

The Limerick Leader confirmed on Thursday that a new owner had taken over the Parkway Valley site adjacent to the Parkway Retail Park. Councillors were invited to a presentation on Thursday night showcasing a plan for the sight. Davy Group are to oversee the €90m project which will see 196 1/2/3 bed apartments, a service station, a 4-storey hotel, a car showroom and possibly offices. Construction is set to begin in early 2020 and the development will be completed in a phased basis over 4-7 years with the hotel being constructed in the final phase.

The crowd behind it seem to have a good track record so hopfully. Agreed..last thing we needed was a shopping center. If only the council done a CPO on the former Dunnes on Sarsfield st they could stick the M&S everyone is looking for in there.

I think it's a little strange they want to build a petrol station. Aren't there 3 or 4 just minutes away?

The existing structure has been exposed for so long, will it all need to be demolished?

There are to be 6 apartment blocks with 191 apartments, 4 storeys of office space and 3 industrial zones. It is expected the development will create 150 permanent jobs once complete.

Looking at their website, they seem to be all about high end residential. https://www.novelty.com.sg

I doubt there'll be any student accommodation involved if that's the case here too.

Wow those apartment developments look very high quality. It's interesting that this is their first project outside of Asia
