Living in Tenerife, Canary Islands. Thunderstorms predicted over the next 18 hours. Any of you guys got any data on it. Aemet say rain alright, but I need some sparky action as it gets boring out here.

Further west you are in that island nation, the better your chances, little chance for eastern half, 30% central and 70% western during the day Sunday.

In the south west, so will cross the fingers and toes.

Lots of action out here today in Tenerife. Not as crazy as December 11th last year, but impressive all the same. I kicked off my viewing at 4.30am with some stunning lightning to the west of me. Counted 12 flashes inside a minute at one stage. Then the rain followed and when it rains out here it rains. Add to that the inability to cope with it. Unfortunately there has been one fatality, a 56 year old women got caught up in a torrent of water. In the capital city of Santa Cruz, a small boat burst into flames after being hit by lightning. I've attached some photos from local sources out here.

Just back from there 2 weeks ago. Difficult to imagine in raining. I've been there a total of 4 weeks and never seen a drop.

I'm living here over two years. Visited for 12 years before that and like yourself, never seen a drop. But it happens and when it does it's biblical! Last December, we had a week of it and some amazing electrical storms.

I was in Tenerife last December for that thunderstorm. The hotel I stayed in the Playa Del Americas area lost power for 10 to 15 minutes. Tenerife South Airport recorded 25 mm rain in one hour.

Found this page today on the Eirgrid site:

    http://www.eirgrid.com/operations/transmissionsystemdisturbancemap/

It highlights faults on the main grid / transmission network. If you click on the right hand side it'll show the location of the fault / timestamp / and fault isolation time interval in ms. All the faults seem to be caused lightning!

Just thought it was a cool lightning "detector"! :)

A great morning for walking the dog up at Malahide estuary . Got to see this Cb go up from from just a regular cumulus cloud.

On the way home we went through another decent cell that had some nice ominous scud clouds too.

Just looking at the Netweather Storm Radar app on the phone here and its showing some fairly intense lightning activity off the coast in your neck of the woods.
Dry here southof Bandon but showers on the way soon by the look of things.

Been watching the radar for the rain that never came (here ) today and was just thinking that around there must be getting a deluge!

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/
