I do adore South American commentators

They are way better than the wasters we have now

It's Friday, we not posting our hopeful formations and selection for the weekend?

i'm hoping we maintain a 4-2-3-1 with Carrick in beside Fellaini. I'd like to see continuation of Jones and Smalling at CB. This would be a baptism of fire, and really let us see how they cope and could potentially work together. But feel Moyes will probably go with Vidic in there alongside Smalling, and that might not be a bad decision.

Rafael right back and Evra left back looks a cert.

Assuming we go with what we have been in our two last good performances, Fellaini with Carrick and then Rooney, Mata and someone in behind RVP. Odd to say, but I'd go with Kagawa. He has big game experience, and this occasion could overaud Januzaj easily. While he has a good temperment, this game could easily be settled in the first half. I'd go with Kagawa who should be fresh as a ****ing daisy, and rearing to go.

I'm hopeful the good vibrations this week, from Fellaini, Rooney and now RVP, will put alot of rubbish to bed, and lead to a somewhat coherant performance. It's Liverpool, there shouldnt be any trouble getting fired up for this.

Go 4-2-3-1 and we can asert ourselves. Go 4-4-2 with an inclusion of Valencia or Young, and are asking to get battered.

Henderson and Gerrard have been awfully impressive this season. Fellaini has obviously MASSIVE experience playing liverpool, in argueably a more heated derby than this rivalry. If there was a time for him to win people over, this weekend is the time to do it.

Wouldn't be overly surprised to see Cleverly play, instead of Carrick. Would provide alot more mobility and hassling in the midfield, and someone who I always envisage as being overly fired up for an occasion like this.

Rooney looks ideally placed to hassle Gerrard. He's being excellent operating from inbetween the midfield and back four, launching balls around the place. If Rooney uses that energy to strangle his supply, Liverpool might be disrupted.

Wellbeck is someone who might be in consideration as part of that front 3, to provide the workrate he does dealing with the likes of Sterling.

HAve to say, I would be gutted to see a 4-4-2 lineout, but wouldnt be suprised either. We have to respect Liverpool are on fire, and with Sterling, Coutinho, Sturridge and Suarez they posses a potent front line. A 4-4-2 with a midfield consistening of WEllbeck ----Carrick---Fellaini---Valencia is probably tempting to Moyes, to provide what he feels would be good defensive cover against Sterling and Coutinho.

Have to say havnt looked forward to this fixture in a long time., Shoes on the other foot, normally Liverpool come to OT looking to upset our title race, now we are trying to upset theres while hunting for fourth. Can't wait.

    Imagine Valencia did this?! :eek::eek::eek:

I don't think there is enough LSD in the world to make anyone imagine Valencia being capable of doing what Nani did there.

It's just that far beyond the realms of possibility.

If the same front 6 from the last two league games don't start, I give up. Coming off the back of probably our two best performances of the season even if the opposition wasn't the best, Moyes really will have lost the plot.

The guys that do the South American leagues, the English speaking commentators are brilliant. Their names escape me but they do the Brazil and Argentine league (really crap league)

The recent formations should HELP him in truth. While he does have the ability to be a top link up player, he doesn't need to be. Van Persie is most dangerous when he is being direct, with little time for thought.

A through ball, a quick pass, something that before it hits his foot, he knows hes going to lash it.

Having Rooney, Mata, Janners/Kagawa playing in behind him, provides all the creativity and linkup play required. Personally I think he needs to just get as far up the pitch as possible and take those little positions that he does so well, and just bury the chances that come his way.

When you put it like that I tend to agree with you. However I think he still needs to do more than he has done in the most recent games to link up a bit better with his teammates, especially when they aren't creating the chances for him.

Yup. I think a lot is made of RVP and Rooney link up. But truth be told its not a two striker partnership of old. Typically when Van Persie is on the ball...it's in an area he's looking to get a strike of in.

I'd more focus on the Rooney supply...as that's essentially the crucial part of that relationship.

I watched that game on MUTV recently. Nani was absolutely sensational that day

It's not hard to imagine. It's not like he hasn't done anything since that game. A season of being out of favour under Ferguson and a season of being injured and possibly out of favour under Moyes doesn't mean he has become a lesser player. He's still only 27, if he was given regular football again all the evidence suggests that he would be excellent again.

Isn't it about time someone questions Nani's ability and is shot down?

“Nani is back. He had a really bad hamstring injury. But he is back and has trained. Hopefully we get him up to speed very quickly,” the boss said. “Rafael, Javier Hernandez and Jonny Evans are all coming along. They all have a chance of playing on Sunday.”

Given that most would want and expect Fellaini and Carrick to be in CM on Sunday, plus Rooney starts and mostly likely RvP, leaving two places for Mata, Januzaj, Welbeck, Kagawa, Nani, Young and Valencia, assuming all are match fit, which two would you like to see start?

I've put them in my order of preference.

He can't leave Mata out, so I'm guessing the other will be Young or Valencia with Mata playing from the left

Also I'm not sure we'll see Fellaini, Cleverely seems to be the 'safe' option

    If Moyes goes with

    Carrick Fellaini
    Mata Rooney Januzaj
    RVP

    I'll be shocked but delighted

Madrid look to be giving us free reign to bid for Kroos, they are saving the pennies for a striker.

Sunday won't come quick enough for me, I haven't looked forward to this fixture so much for years. Everyone else knows the following but does David Moyes? - If we field a team that are capable of beating Liverpool (we have the personnel to do it) then we will definitely score goals and possibly even pick up the 3 points.

However, if we field a team that are put out there to 'not get beaten', then we more than likely will get beaten. 4-4-2 with Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young on the wings, and Michael Carrick and Tom Cleverley perched in the middle will see United at least 1-0 down by half-time, it's happened too often so far this season against lesser teams.

So with that here is a balance of my preferred line-up with a realistic curve for Sunday's game.

    .................DDG

    Raf..... Jones...Smalling....Evra

    .......Carrick......Fellaini

    .....Mata.....Rooney........Young

    .................RVP

Ashley Young - this is my 'realistic curve'. Where I believe Valencia is not capable of raising his game at this stage, Young has been showing signs of improvement in the last while and is also a genuine goal threat. I would be hesitant of putting Januzaj in for such a big game, and Moyes won't play Shinji who would actually be my number 1 choice to play with Mata/Rooney/RVP in this fixture, so yeah, Ashley Young.

As for defence, my ideal pairing until Smalling regains form would be Evans and Jones, but Jonny is only returning from injury. As I write this, it just dawned on me that Vidic is still a United player! So maybe Jones and Vidic could be the way to go.

With the middle, it can only be Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellani and any other pairing will just be one more 'Moyes WTF?!' moment for me, too many of which have recently lead me to question his ability to remain as club manager for the long-term. I don't care what job it is that Tom Cleverley does, Fellaini's game has been on the up in both the 2 games he's played for United since returning, and also his performance for Belgium vs Ivory Coast last week was 'business as usual'...strong.

With the above line-up and a continuation of the mentality/gameplan which was brooding in the previous two away games, I would have no hesitation in putting a few bets on in regards to a United win and goalscorers, but with Moyes who knows? Sure isn't Giggs due a game at this stage!

Even before getting a team sheet, I'm dreading this game.

I'm not going to let good performances against bottom-quarter of the table Palace and West Brom make me optimistic, especially when a dismal performance to the Greeks occurred in between them. The problem still remains that we've really struggled against the top sides this season, and while I'd hope Moyes will pick a better team than his usual "Can't lose" team, I think we're still going to be facing Liverpool at a time they are more dangerous than ever.

Really pessimistic and preparing for the worst :(

So Nani is just back from a really bad hamstring injury and Moyes chooses to talk about getting him up to speed very quickly rather than doing the best to keep the player fit. It could possibly all just be a coincidence, but Moyes continues to make himself look like an idiot when it comes to player fitness.

I'd go for Young on the right and Mata on the left myself. Januzaj was quiet enough in the last game and I wouldn't like to expose him to this strong Liverpool team when there's a reasonable chance of us getting a hiding.

It would be foolish to see Nani near the team considering how long he's been out. He needs time. As long as Valencia isn't in the first 11 (and Giggs) I'll be relatively happy. Mata Rooney and RVP are dead certs for m. I reckon Young will start, which isn't the worst. At least he can cross and shoot.

    No hope IMO.

Either it's brinkmanship from Kroos or someone like City or Chelsea will just gazump the deal.

Pro F is right there's a decent chance of us getting a hiding no matter what we do, Liverpool have been dishing out hidings all season and made Arsenal look like amateurs over a 20 minute period, set up negatively or set up attacking, it could happen. But there's far more chance of us winning if we go with the latter like we've done in the last two league games.

We've set up negatively in almost all of our games against the top 6 and the mini table doesn't lie, 6 points from 27 so far.

People say form goes out the window in this game but I don't remember Liverpool playing this kind of football in a long time and us worse, I don't think there's any chance of Liverpool not scoring so we'll have to try and outscore them which is an unlikely feat but it's the best option we have. Taking the game to them has worked for other teams this season, sitting back is suicide.

I'm personally very much looking forward to the game! I'd be so p*ssed off if Moyes plays 4-4-2, it just has to be the 4-2-3-1 that we seen last week and that personnel with maybe swapping Januzaj for another..

I'm thinking with the 4-2-3-1 and the occasion that is in it, it could be an exciting game! If Moyes plays 4-4-2 with Val and Cleverley playing, I look forward to the pro Moyes' gang response..
