Eircom have done something around my way but I don't know if it's attributable to vectoring. Attainable speeds on the upstream have dropped off by about 3 mbs. Not a huge deal, but enough to make you wonder if there's more slackening in service yet to come.

    SNR Margin went down
    &
Attainable Net Data Rate went down

    Very weird!

I was one of the first in my area to get efibre and I noticed that over time the net attainables have steadily gone down. I suspect that as more and more people are added to the DSLAM the noise in the cable bundle increases and impacts the neighbouring twisted pairs.

That's true, but I am getting more and more convinced that eircom have enabled enhanced impulse noise protection (G.INP) on all cabinets, but not yet vectoring on a good number. Why there is a delay in doing this I'm not sure, perhaps they have realised it is causing issues with digiweb's fritzbox, or perhaps I'm talking absolute rubbish...

Something is definitely upsetting my Fritzbox 7390. It appears that only the enhanced noise protection is on on my cab, (as I'm only seeing 70mb max quoted by the Eircom line checker) but my Fritzbox has become much more unstable the last couple of weeks.

I called Eircom tech support, they said they could see a 'short and earth fault' and I'm awaiting a visit now. Be interesting to see if they find a real fault or not.

So Still no sign of vectoring on my digiweb line here in letterkenny, but out home the eircom line has been upgraded and altho only on the 50 meg package is enjoying healthy pings with INP set to 29/29 with 0 delay.

I have taken the F1000 router from home and plugged it into my digiweb line to see the line stats compared to that given by the fritz box and low and behold

Finally had it confirmed today that vectoring is not turned on for my cabinet (ENS1-020) :(

But unable to find out when it will be

Did find out though that the Fritzbox routers seem to be a problem. My one is giving SNR of 9db up / down compared to the F1000 14db / 13db.

  • Registered Users Posts: 175 ✭✭GIMickey

I am currently on the 70/20 profile. I was able to get 65mb down and 20mb up from that profile. A few weeks ago when everyone experienced the small drop in download but G.inp turned on. My speed drop from 65mb sync to 46-47mb sync. Then jimmad posted a comment with findings he got on an eircom router so i tried this.

    My fritzBox dsl Firmware 6.04

    Max. DSLAM throughput kbit/s 71680 20480
    Min. DSLAM throughput kbit/s 1024 1024
    Attainable data rate kbit/s 47293 17635
    Current throughput kbit/s 47398 16737
    Seamless rate adaptation off off

    Latency fast 8 ms
    Impulse Noise Protection 28 2
    G.inp on off

    Signal-to-noise ratio dB 9 9
    Bitswap on on
    Line attenuation dB 21 14

    Profile 17a
    G.Vector off off

    Carrier record B43 B43

    Vodafone modem firmware B214

    Line standard VDSL2
    Channel type None
    Downstream line rate (kbit/s) 67621
    Upstream line rate (kbit/s) 20478
    Downstream attainable data rate(kbit/s) 71292
    Upstream attainable data rate(kbit/s) 23039
    Downstream SNR (dB) 9.4
    Upstream SNR (dB) 9.7
    Downstream line attenuation (dB) 15
    Upstream line attenuation (dB) 5.4
    Downstream output power (dBmV) 14.3
    Upstream output power (dBmV) 5.1
    Downstream CRC 0
    Upstream CRC 0
    Downstream FEC 0
    Upstream FEC 0

Now as you can see the fritzbox cuts off 20mb. I rand digiweb and got tech support level 2. I was told that digiweb wont be doin the speeds of up to 100mb anytime soon because the modem has issues with it. Tech support said that. Was told that digiweb will now contact fritzbox directly about this, so i have to wait about 2 weeks for an answer.

Tonight i will be getting an eircom modem to test my line, will post results later. For anyone that wants to know, im about 550m from the cabinet

So can someone please tell me why my line attenuation is different on both boxes.

Also i brought my fritzbox to my friends houses to test my box on the lines. Bought one guy from 72mb down to 56mb, then in another house it brought their line from 51mb to 35mb

Fritzbox would appear to just be total junk. If its being trounced by the Zyxels thats bad as they arent a very high bar to beat.

Even though fritzbox can support vectoring with their latest firmware upgrade, digiweb said that alot of problems are arising, so they aren't releasing vectoring speeds (100mb) any time soon.

Don't get me wrong, functionality on this box is pretty good. Only really having the problems since the newest update 6.04. On the fritzbox i was getting the same stats as the vodafone modem. This all changed a few weeks back.

Surprising really as they're probably all using more or less the same chipsets.

I've no inside information, but despite probably using the same chipset, putting together the boards in a different reconfiguration etc. can cause interference or other issues.

On 50Mb at the moment, called Eircom today to see if 100Mb was available (I'm in Leixlip), but the guy told me my line is only capable of 40Mb :S

I asked when 100Mb would be available and he said Summer 2015. Maybe I'm speaking to the wrong person :P

Very annoyed about the Fritzbox, I paid north of €200 for it as it had a lot of exccellent reviews.

Going to contact them and ask them to look at this as a matter of urgency, or I'll be returning it for refund. Plus of course the obligatory bad write up on review sites!
