Season is only 5 weeks away!

Feel kinda weird stating the thread cause Joe runs the league but I just want to get the ball rolling.

Yahoo hasn't opened for registration yet but hopefully it will in the next few days.

There was a few things being talked about at the end of last season:

Stick with Roto or go with H2H

    Making this a keeper league

and the number of teams in the league.

    I'm obviously in.

Probably in the minority but roto with daily lock was really enjoyable last year and I'd like to stick with that. Haven't thought about a keeper league yet, but don't mind either way. Would prefer 12 teams but if there's enough interest we should expand the league.

I'm in. I enjoyed last years format, so be happy to stick with that.

Maybe if we could set something up where we choose our teams, then get to keep 4 or 5 players for the following season, might add something to it.

We should defend our way of life to an extent that any attempt on it is crushed, so that any adversary will never make such an attempt in the future.

    Count me in aswell :)

Happy to stick with last years scoring categories and daily roster changes but prefer head to head. I think it keeps interest longer for more players as anyone who makes it into the championship bracket can win the league.

As for this been a keeper league, as long as the league rules are set before we draft thats cool with me. We can always make changes in the off season...

Yeah you can count me in, enjoyed last years was a god format, but don't mind if most are up for changing it

Weekly Roster changes i feel would be better.

    In this year again.

While I found Roto to great last yer ;-) - I'm a H2H man at heart.

    Daily changes for me.

Up for a keeper for sure, but as has been mentioned, we'll need to sit down and come up with rules. These rules might indicate if Yahoo or ESPN etc are better to use! I like Yahoo myself.

Thought teh categories were good and wide last year. Been interested to see what's on offer to add to the goaltender stats. Just fact finding mind you!

I'm definitely in again, really enjoyed it last season for my first dip in fantasy hockey. As for the format I'm easy. We should go with the format that will keep it interesting as 82 games is a long season but I'll leave that up to the seasoned vets.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭smackbunnybaby

Will we try for 14 teams?
    12 was good last year.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,930 ✭✭✭COYW

Count me in too, of course. Jeez, 5 weeks til the puck drops. I think we should revert back to the head to head since we have a full season. I enjoy the league in any format but prefer the head to head. Anyone fancy altering the categories we use? I liked the addition of shots blocked last season. I hate +/- but I see the value in having it.

14 teams would be brilliant. Perfect amount for a league like that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,546 ✭✭✭Masked Man

    I like Yahoo myself.

Yahoo have changes their design for Yahoo Sports and Fantasy Football, I assume they'll do the same with hockey and it's really really bad. The league is already set up there so it's probable easier to stick with it.

I cannot for the life of me understand why PIMs is a category. What's the reasoning behind it?

For me it is an indication of aggression. Every NHL team has it's share of harder players and without them, they haven't a hope of succeeding. The PIMs stat is the reflection of that in fantasy hockey.

As I take it PIMs are for larger leagues usually so when a player drafts someone like say Arron Asham it isn't a dead roster spot as he contributes points to his team in PIM rather than the actual points in a game he scores, can be quiet valuable to have a player like Wayne Simmonds were he gets decent points and racks up PIMs in that way.

I think its a good stat to keep in that way

I'll give it a go this year!

Cheers for the PIM stuff. Guess I'll try understand it a bit better this season. Still kinda feels like rewarding something that hurts the team.

Couldn't understand it myself the first year.
Made sense the 2nd year. Particularly when you realize the job of the enforcer!
Plus form a fantasy perspective, it opens up the player pool more and makes certain players more valuable!

Obviously I'm back in for this! Getting over to 4 games in October and can't wait for the puck to drop!

*Happy with the H2H league format from two years ago, didn't feel last years.
    *Would prefer daily roster changes.
*Would like to keep PIM's as a category
*Don't have any real preference as to how many teams we have in the league. Depends on the interest and the schedule.

Will put more effort into a post tomorrow night and give all the options that people can discuss / vote on. Good to see so many people back already.

Going to Boston and taking in the Avalanche and Redwings @ Bruins games, as well as the Saints-Pats game. Then on to Pittsburgh for the Oilers and Canucks games against the Pens, and the Ravens-Steelers game.

A sports holiday if ever there was one.

Any of the sports bars would show the games that are on early enough if you gave them notice that there would be a few people coming to see it.

I'll have my auto-draft in order however!
