    Thank you for that response!
Would a Now TV Smart box ( or is that the Roku?) work better than the cheaper 'dumb' one from Argos?

    Smart and dumb NowTV boxes?

I didn't realise there were multiple variations?

Yeah it's a pain, no way I am paying Irish prices and they don't have the kids section which is what mine was mostly used for..

Out of curiosity of those who've been blocked were any of you using DNS services?

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,301 ✭✭✭✭gerrybbadd

    I wasn't, but I am now ;)

    Working fine again

    Glad to hear it :-)

Mine is gone now. Wasn't using a DNS or VPN.

No way I'm paying inflated Irish prices.

Anyone suggest an easy way to get the service back? I don't mind signing up to a DNS service if it works. Feel free to PM if you don't want to post in the forum.

I see the website has changed. They now say a uk account can be only used in the UK. They say an Irish account can be used in Ireland and UK.

Previously the website said you could use uk account in UK and Ireland.

Interesting in the autumn, that an Irish Nowtv box could be used in UK to watch 3pm game on Sky Sports 5!

Mine gone too....could anyone suggest a DNS that they use?

The day was always coming, after nearly 4 years paying peanuts for movies & ent I've gotten my monies worth and Netix & Amazon were getting my attention more and more anyway so if the Irish pricing wasn't just an excuse to gouge us I wouldn't mind so much but coupled with the imited options to watch on big screen it's insulting and as far as I can see just lip service to the anti piracy lobby and another way to milk Paddy thrown in for good measure

So be it, SKY you suck.

Mine still works with a DNS :)

Aye, unfortunately my tinfoil hat wearing ways won't allow me to funnel my private data through a DNS so I'm done :pac:

Buy a 2nd router and just funnel your nowtv box through DNS.

Update: It's gone now. Live streaming is OK but on demand is blocked.

  • Registered Users Posts: 80 ✭✭Vwsham

I got the same problem. Live streaming is ok but content is geolocked 1301 error.
It's funny though, this is without vpn.
But when I do connect through a uk vpn I can't get either live content or live channel streaming.
Hmmm, I guess they have possibly blocked the vpn servers?

Mine gone too. Was really handy for the kids passes. I'm not paying Irish prices so it's put away.

    lg TV went last night.

On Sky BB so was probably living on the edge to start with.

not interested in using VPN's or whatnot.

I used the UK live chat and got my TV and movies passes for the last 30 days refunded. the renewal for both were the end of the month no questions asked money put back on my account.

Yes Sky have gotten quite good at identifying popular VPN servers and blocking them outright even if the traffic looks like its coming from UK.
I found that most of the cheaper VPN services get blocked sooner or later. It has turned into a cat and mouse game where they work for a while, then they get blocked so they re-direct to another server and get blocked again after a few days,
The only one that works quite consistently (at least up to a few months ago) is VPN Express but it is a bit more expensive at €9 a month
